MeinRS6: DeathByGeekSquad: MeinRS6: He does over the top things and antagonizes people to get a reaction.

Well, he got a reaction. I don't think he can biatch about this.

Between you and him, only one of you is biatching, and it isn't him.

How was I biatching? I think it was funny.

Comedian pokes people. People poke back.

LOL! Attempted murder is funny!

Can you imagine some Republican driving a Hummer, smoking a cigar, bumper-sticker that says "Member of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy" and "I Support Walker" driving through some Volvo-area of Wisconsin and getting physically attacked?

The fact is that some groups are more violent, paranoid, racist than others and actually react with physical violence in the face of mockery, unlike their betters, the liberals.

Hashidic Jews in Israel attacking Bruno, the rednecks going after the Top Gear guys, etc. etc. etc. (http://transmission.blogs.topgear.com/2009/10/05/richard-the-rednecks -were-real/).

A-freakin-men. It is word for word minus Stern's questions that lead him to telling the story. Why tell this as if THEY had the interview? Why no Stern credit?

So Columbine was just deserts then?

Because People in power are Stupid: This was described on the director's commentary from Bruno -when he was dressed as such:

[i.huffpost.com image 260x190]

Yeah, and the above comment. I mean, in that context it almost kinda makes sense....

But for this to happen to the same guy, in two different costumes, for two different movies...

This sounds suspiciously like someone heard something and copy-pasta'd an old article about the same thing, without checking to see which movie it was and just assumed it was the new movie...

Im not saying they were right to do it when he was filming bruno either, but... ummm... why would this character be dressed in a way that would antagonize hasidic jews? I... I don't know, it just doesn't make sense to me.

I'd be interested to see if this pans out to be true, or a snafu on the article author's part.

I dunno, from what I've heard over the years, the ultra-orthodox in Israel can be pretty intolerant of anything not part of their small group - including other Jews who don't strictly observe clothing rules, behavior, and customs, not to mention how they treat women they might see out and about who aren't even connected to them. I'll be the first to admit I have no direct exposure and it's mostly hearsay, but it's enough to make me wary of devout members of the religion if I encounter them.

You don't have to defend this just because it was Jews doing it, you know. They're human. They can make mistakes as well.

It was probably that naked fight scene in Borat where he took on the short fat naked dude. It stirred all kinds of weird emotions in him when he watched it, and he's upset because he's been taught that those emotions are bad.

'Borat' - which featured him as a controversial Kazak* journalist and sparked anger among the Kazakhstan community

What makes me laugh is that literally nobody outside of Kazakhstan cares about this point, and the Kazakhstanis are incapable of exercising any meaningful demonstration or boycott to change anyone's mind. It's one of those things that's sad but (funny because it's) true.

*I think the correct spelling here is Kazakh.

Absolutely disagree.

Ka·zakh
noun
1. a member of a nomadic Muslim people living mainly in Kazakhstan.
2. the Turkic language of the Kazakh people.

Kazakhstani
adjective
1. of or pertaining to Kazakhstan or to the Kazakhs or their culture
noun
1. a native or inhabitant of Kazakhstan

Kazakhs are specifically the ethnic groups, and Kazakhstanis are the inhabitants of Kazakhstan.

Ok, so I have a few problems with this story

Sacha Baron Cohen says he ran for his life when he was chased by a rock-wielding gang of Hasidic Jews.
'The Dictator' star angered a group of Hasidic Jews by wearing a camp version of their traditional costume in Jerusalem and he feared for his life as he was being chased by the mob before hiding in a bathroom store.
He said: "A bunch of Hasidic Jews ran after me with rocks and I ended up hiding in a bathroom store.
"Normally in dangerous situations I have a getaway car. But as I ran towards the getaway car it drove away.
"So I found myself running down the street, running for my life, and being chased by these Hasidic nutcases.

Ok, first of all, I live near the neighborhood where this supposedly happened, I walk through it everyday to and back from Yeshiva, and there are multiple problems with his story:

1 - When did that happen? It can't be during Shabbat, because its physically impossible for cars to make it in that neighborhood, the streets are locked, so it had to happen during the week. Because, if it happened in the middle of the day, you wouldn't find a 'mob' of men just ready to go willy-nilly run after him. If you walk there during the day, its mostly women, children and old people, because the men are busy sitting in Yeshiva and learning.

2 - A 'gang' and a 'mob'? How many people are we talking here? It could be anywhere between 4 and 200+ people.

3- Wielding rocks? If you want to find sizeable rocks that can actually hurt someone, you need to go and find them somewhere else than in the street. The few hooligans who do throw rocks on cars have to prepare and bring them in, they are not just lying around in the street. So all members of that 'gang' were wielding rocks? Not throwing them, just had rocks ready? What, they left the house in the morning, thinking 'hey better have something in case I need to stone someone?'

4- He ran for his getaway car, but the car left. So basically he said he went there with a getaway car, because he thought it would be a dangerous situation. How did he manage to lose the car? The vast majority of these streets are extremely narrow, and one-way. So he parked the car and started in the opposite direction? Where did he park the car in the first place? There is almost no place to park there whatsoever.

5 - He entered a shop and ducked in the bathroom? Well that's funny, because the vast majority of shops there are extremely tiny, and without public bathrooms for sure. Most don't have bathrooms in general. We're also supposed to think that a mob bent on murder thought 'oh well, he's in a bathroom, let's move on?

Then, we arrive at the biggest problem with his story:

"I turned round to calm them down, and I shouted in Hebrew 'I am Jewish', which apparently is the worst thing ever you can tell Hasidic Jews.

"It was then they decided that they wanted to really kill me."

... kill him for what?

There are extremists in the Ultra-Orthodox world, that's the truth, sadly. But they are very few in numbers (but extremely loud) and unless he was very unlucky and happened to walk in on all of them, or in their synagogue or something, that sounds unlikely.

However, even though these guys sometimes throw rocks, and burn dumpsters, and generally like to protest, and get in clashes with the police, do you know what they don't do? Kill people.

I can think of one case in the last 10 years of an ultra-Orthodox man killing a non-religious man "in the name of religion." The man didn't make it to trial, he was committed for being schizophrenic.

Not only would they NOT kill him for this, but especially not since he's Jewish.

Sacha admits he has come "close" to being murdered or seriously hurt while shooting his previous two movies, mockumentaries 'Borat' - which featured him as a controversial Kazak journalist and sparked anger among the Kazakhstan community - and 'Bruno', where he played a homosexual Austrian fashion designer.

He is quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: "In those last two movies there were lots of people with guns who got angry and it became a little hairy at times.

"I never felt I'd get killed, but it has been close."

Sacha's latest movie 'The Dictator', which sees him star as fictional leader General Aladeen, has also sparked controversy among the Arab community.

Nadia Tonova, director of the National Network for Arab American Communities, said his latest role "perpetuates a negative stereotype against Arabs".

And that's why the story doesn't pass the smell test. There are way too many inconsistencies, it is not backed by facts and:

1 - he is being accused of being anti-Arab, and he has the defense of 'See, I make fun of everyone, even Jews!'
2 - he has a new movie out, and that gets him publicity '
3 - it gives him that edge of 'I'm so controversial, people try to kill me all the time!'

So yeah I am going to assume this is just something he drummed up for publicity.

Maybe a burning bush told them to do it.

Yeah ok I just saw footage of that. There was literally three people chasing him, and none of them had rocks.

Not only that, but two of them are CLEARLY not Hassidic Jews, or even religious. Wearing a cap, no beard, no tzitzit flying out, and so on.

For all we know, they were actors he hired.

2012-05-21 07:24:18 AM
Video here

Three middle-aged men (without rocks) chased him, and we only see the chase and them yelling 'No!' and 'Stop!', but we don't see what he was doing in the minutes right before that happened

What a brush with death!
What a story!
