The DEA and two sheriffs are asking permission to install stationary license plate scanners on the freeway in Beaver and Washington counties.

The scanners would capture only the license plate, the GPS coordinates and the direction of travel, Newcomb said.

That's some fine police work, Lou.

I wasn't aware that Utah had a drug corridor.

Committee members asked for more information about the scanners and the data storage and agreed to discuss the issue at its June meeting. roll over and do whatever the DEA wanted to do in the first place in exchange for some government cash.

Do they still have that DHS money burning a hole in their pocket?

Was brilliant to send/waste it in the name of "Godfearing Security" in the first place.
I'd repourpose it. Gonna need every cent in two years.

AbbeySomeone: I wasn't aware that Utah had a drug corridor.

While the drug abuse in Utah is slightly lower than the national average, the users have a tendency to die more than twice the national average. It exceeds even the average amount of deaths from car accidents in Utah, a state well known for hosting great snow for skiing.

We really need a viable third party, but that aint gunna happen.

Really glad all this monitoring of all of our movements, facial recognition, buying-habit analysis, power bill analysis, warrantless phone tapping, online activity analysis and so on, is rebuilding our economy. Yeah, we all have jobs now --- if we work in law enforcement, that is. I guess we're just not safe without a bunch of 80 IQ CJ guys looking up all our asses, retiring at 50, with 20 years of complete access to inside information that gives them a business advantage over any citizens who honestly paid these guy's salaries and retirements. Great plan to get our economy back on its feet.

As an ANPR Administator (UK) I could get a kick.

ANPR is a core crime fighting tool, tax is one category of offence that its not used for.

In my locality last year I've detected three Al Qaida suspects, two of whom are now in prison for the foreseeable future. Rapes and Murders arre detected every week.

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour,
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
A sun that is the source of all our power.

I suggest you move - your locality doesn't sound too safe if people are being raped and murdered every week.

Also, just because our British friends enjoy their surveillance society does not mean we Americans do.

Fark these guys and fark their cameras.

Dipshiats like this partisan idiot that thinks this is the result of only one political party. What you are looking at in this country is nothing less that bureaucracy nearing critical mass, and when that happens your country is farked. There's nothing an election can do to stop it at this point, short of the elected defunding entire departments.

There is no partisan divide when it comes to the War on Drugs. That shiat is as bipartisan as it gets.

Yeah, except they aren't in any way.

How many bills did the teabagger Congress pass eliminating the most onerous aspects of the Patriot Act? Or the NDAA? Or the powers of confiscation, detention, and privacy invasion thanks to the war on drugs. OR any of the other freedom stripping nonsense that has occurred over the years. They've done absolutely nothing on these fronts, because they actively support them. They don't care about your freedom.

2012-05-20 10:51:20 AM
Meanwhile, I'm sure that DEA leadership in Washington is most busy identifying threats to their agency's funding. I wonder who's entitled to access to this travel pattern information?

lunkhed: You enjoy your crime rate.

No, actually, I enjoy my liberty - and don't buy the bullshiat that the cameras "prevent" crime.

And as to fact, what do you make of the release from August 2010 showing England and Wales with higher crime rates than the US? A quick google shows many results. To quote the first paragraph of but one:

England and Wales has one of the worst crime rates among developed nations for rapes, burglaries and robberies, a United Nations report found.

could've at LEAST installed an I-pass system to make this look legitimate.

/I'd like service with my government pretext.
