Could also be that he is old

could also just be the results from one single game after a year of sitting.

i wonder how long before he gives up, again...

Happy Manny returns. The Red Sox never should have gotten rid of him. They desperately need him.

Picking him up was almost a genius level move. If he's productive by the trade deadline, they can trade him or keep him, and if he's not they can just release him. They only have to pay him for spring training and the 8 or 10 weeks between now and the deadline.

It could also be that it's baseball, and sometimes you go 0-4 with three strikeouts, especially after not playing for over a year.

2012-05-20 10:15:06 AM
Well, he's on Strike 2, he damn well better be if he doesn't want to be the first player to juice himself into a lifetime ban.

0-4 with 3 strikeouts is the typical performance from an Oakland batter, so he'll fit right in.

If the big dummy didn't "retire" last year, his suspension would have been over and he'd have already worked the kinks out in spring training.

But it's just Manny being Manny

In an article in the S.F. Chronicle earlier this week, he said that he was going to be using his minor league at-bats to work on two-strike hitting. He said he wasn't even going to attempt to make contact with less than two strikes. Don't write him off too soon.

Hell, if he had put in some work instead of waiting until he was getting a paycheck he'd be fine.

Same goes for Jose.

I hope he doesn't screw up the Rivercats season before he gets the hell out of here

Let's see how that's working out for him:

He hit a weak, broken-bat liner to second on the first pitch of his second at-bat

Oh.

I have always perceived Manny as Thome's Mister Hyde. That's also partly due to the fact that I purposely do not count his post Cleveland years.

If they take him out of the game it's for a reason. You think they want to take him out of the game? You think they want to pinch-hit for him?

They pinch-hit for him because he sucks. There's somebody else they thought was better than him.

He must have just woke up before the game, seeing as he was still wearing his "3X too big" pajamas.

Remember when Manny played for the Sawks and he was real good and the Sawks won the world series with Manny being Manny and only those cheaters the Yankees used steroids? Good times man, good times.

Heh, no one ever said he could count. :)

C'mon, Harv, we gotta hope he's got something left in the tank. The only way this season is going to be a success is if he shows up inspired, Cespedes stays healthy, and the lineup gets a lift from having someone that opposing pitchers have to pitch around, and someone who makes them pay for pitching around him. The A's pitching staff is quality; they gotta find a bat, even if it's attached to a nutjob.

Hey, we've got our own "WTF" signing: Miguel Tejada made his AAA debut today for the Norfolk Tides.

/Of course, Tejada went 2-4 with an RBI... :p
//Lord knows the Orioles could use a third baseman who's aware of what that glove is for.
///Tejada had 17 errors in 141 career games at third. Orioles' third basemen have 14 in 42 games this season.

I've been following the O's this year, I'd love to see them win it all. Balltimore could use the lift. It's tough being an Oriole fan; that team loves to tease their followers with great starts, and crappy late seasons. Tejada in his prime was awesome. Hopefully he's still got one good season in him.

/still miss Earl Weaver

UNAUTHORIZED FINGER: /still miss Earl Weaver

Earl Weaver is basically the Pope, George Washington, and Santa Claus all rolled into one around here. The last World Series might have happened the year after he left, but it was still Earl's team in '83.

/He once got into an argument with an umpire and stormed back into the dugout shouting "I'm going to check the rulebook on that!" The umpire yelled after him, "Here, use mine." Weaver said "No thanks, I can't read braille".

That's awesome! Earl and Dick Williams were my favorite managers of all-time. I even wrote a letter to Dick Williams, and he wrote me back!

The umpire, Ron Luciano said that he blew a call at the Coliseum once, and Dick Williams came out and didn't say anything for about a minute, just letting the boos rain down. Then he told him "You hear that? They're not booing that call. They're booing your whole career!"
