I don't know what you're mocking-- repealing child labor laws and birth control at the same time will create a whole new pool of job applicants within 6 years. And since at that age they are fairly expendable, businesses don't need to pay benefits or bother with safety regulations. US productivity will soar.

It's funny, really. My theory is that the "people leaving the workforce" argument is filled by substantial numbers of people who have put off retirement since 2008 when their 401(k)s blew out. 3-4 years would get a lot of people closer to the full SS payout, plus if they are getting a pension or some kind of buyout, they can hold off for more money to help replace the nest egg they lost when they invariably sold everything for fear of it going to 0 and didn't put it back in during 2009.

I can't prove this because I don't think BLS has numbers for why people drop out, just that they do.

I don't see substantial job creation, but a lot of younger people moving into the slots opened up by those leaving (finally). Workforce retention past a certain age is a topic rarely discussed. It slows down the ability of the young to get that first job, and for everyone else to advance to the next rung.

The President can't force demand in an economy. They can help by saying "To defeat the terrorists, GO SHOPPING!" But, that isn't exactly a policy. They just try to put on a happy face and get everyone to feel confident so they will spend more. Then they try to get everyone into a home, then use that home equity to borrow against and buy a boat and a third car.

It's like they want to teach everyone vulture capitalism. Get an asset, borrow heavily against that asset, then just walk away from the asset (mortgage). Dems did help with the home loan thing. Not the deregulation, but they wanted to give poor people an asset so they could begin to build actual wealth in families that had not had wealth in their history. Republicans used the Dems and their desire to build a more financially stable lower-class as a way to steal billions in the mortgage market by removing any and all regulation. That cost trillions. If we had just followed the Dem plan, and didn't let the Republicans do this:

Even if we did abolish the EPA and "relaxed" child labor laws, none of that will create demand. I have to think that as dumb as they are, even they know that. They just don't want companies beholden to any law on their function whatsoever. The only thing that can create more demand is more people with more money who feel comfortable buying more things they likely don't need but want. Until they grasp that concept, they will continue to pray to the tinkle fairy to rain golden prosperity down from on high.
