Why do people give National Review the benefit of doubt? I trust them as much as I trust InfoWars

When the Buckleys ran things it tended to be respectable, and had some journalistic integrity. Yes, those days are gone.

Sadly, Bill Buckley would have no place in the modern GOP.

To be fair, Reagan and Dole wouldn't have a place in the current crop. Ronny makes a wonderful prop piece, but policy wise, he'd be called a RINO. Cripes, with the way things are heading, GW may soon be too Liberal...

Imaginary Saint Reagan might not fit in but the Reagan that combined "states rights" and treason to get elected would be just fine.

He'd be a RINO in the worst possible way: A conservative actually able to articulate his position on things and debate his rivals politely. Of course, Buckley would never tolerate what the conservative movement has become, and I notice he never gets invoked by the current crop of neocons.

Sad but true: Buckley was outed as a RINO late in Bush's first term when he had the temerity to question the wisdom of the great mans expansive foreign policy and forays in to nation building.

Soon? I've been hearing that GW wasn't really a conservative (and even not even a Republican) for three years now.

I love how the comments are just full of idiots making a big fuss about her lying about being Native American. Never mind that even if she lied, and there's no reason to believe she didn't think it was true, she got nothing out of it. Apparently claiming to be 1/32 Native American is tantamount to genocide. And of course, it has absolutely nothing to do with the article, except that the article briefly mentions the poutrage over the non-story.

Why do liberals always have to make up fake stories about themselves?

In ten years, I bet we will hear that Grover Norquist is a RINO and is far too liberal.

The Republicans show a great amount of fear towards Warren, just like they did with Obama in 2004.

Is this what GOP fear smells like?

Hell, I've been saying it for 12 years. (I wasn't very popular in my Republican circles in the early 2000s.)

Guntram Shatterhand: The Republicans show a great amount of fear towards Warren, just like they did with Obama in 2004.

That's my thinking, and Obama has scared them enough that they are working on a preemptive strike on Warren. I think they figure that if they pile on enough crap now, she won't have a shot in 2016.

2012-05-19 05:46:22 PM
Just wait. If we get near GOP convention time and gas prices haven't spiked over $4 in most places, unemployment hasn't gone significantly higher, and Obama hasn't been caught with a dead girl or a live boy, they're going to go into shrieking hysteria. Seriously, they're going to look at the polls, they're going to see, at minimum, 4 more years of Obama and Democratic gains in the House, and they are going to go completely off-the-wall gibbering mad. The Tea Partiers are going to be looking straight in the face of their own actions losing the GOP the presidency, and quite possibly the House.

Where you will see true fear -- real, pants-crapping, tangible fear -- is if the polls start suggesting strongly that the Democrats will be in control of the entire Congress and the White House in 2013. That's when the amusing stuff will start.

So not only is Warren notnot Cherokee, she's not a plagiarizer.

Trinko quickly issued a correction and apology -- noting her confusion over the dates -- and removed the original article from the Review's website.

The tea baggers are afraid of Warren. She is intelligent, articulate, has a great back-story and is running where the tea baggers are vulnerable.
They rightly see her as a rising liberal political star and having none of their own they gnash their teeth and screech.

2012-05-19 06:06:19 PM
Heh I'm more amused by the recipe story they link to Link. Like anyone should care if someone cribbed some recipes 30 years ago. I collect old cookbooks and have run into people using the exact same recipes before. I found a stroganoff recipe in a cookbook of recipes submitted by Home-Ec teachers...that was exactly the same recipe in an earlier Betty Crocker cookbook. Cracked me up when I realized it. I'm sure half of my family recipes were cribbed from some cookbook or others recipes.

2012-05-19 06:08:06 PM
This is great projection. Someone else copies from Warren's book, so it's her fault and she's dishonest.

/As opposed to someone like Palin having a ghost writer, which is fine

Nah. This isn't a whisper campaign or even something where anyone could claim that there is any suspicion. She's either the victim of plagiarism or has access to Harvard's magical time machine.

2012-05-19 06:15:25 PM
FTFA: "I can see how they got this wrong," Pareene went on to tell the New York Observer's Hunter Walker, "but honestly, five more minutes of Googling it would have disproven it before they even published it."

Exactly. What could they possibly hope to accomplish with such an easily-debunked lie?

Bungles: And yet, the story of her plagiarizing will be whispered in certain circles for the rest of her career.

Oh, right. Republicans.

2012-05-19 06:16:23 PM
Too bad the NRO doesn't have a time machine so they could go back before they printed the original article and tell themselves to cut it out cos they were making fools out of themselves.

Meh, they'd probably accuse their future selves of being RINOs or liberal plants and print it anyway.

Sad thing here is the fact that due to the truth's total lack of influence over the RW echo chamber this lie will no doubt continue to be repeated for years on online forums and in those FW: FW: FW: emails.

Fark 'em.

Go Warren.

No doubt These people are completely desperate and grasping at the tiniest of straws.

Of course, the usual d-bags are still passing around the lie as truth, and they'll never acknowledge the correction. Howie Carr, of the Boston Herald has his mouth wrapped so firmly around Scott Brown's cock, I have no idea how Rep. Brown has been able to pee. Farking hell, can you imagine the poutrage from Brett Bozell and Co. if the Dems ever pulled this shiat?

I've yet to hear anyone on the right actually attempt to attack her policies or qualifications. Because they can't of course. It's pretty funny watching their increasingly lame attempts at character assassination.

If Massachusetts voters fall for this shiat and vote for Scott "I have a truck" Brown again I will be astounded and depressed.

Blessedly, she's not running in a national race. She's running in Massachusetts, which is quite blue (yeah, I know the western part is reddish).

of course the legitimate claim that she plagerized for the Pow Wow Chow cookbook was not covered.

Ms. Warren's 1984 recipe for Crab with Tomato Mayonnaise Dressing is a word-for-word copy of Mr. Franey's 1979 recipe.

Time machine ain't helping the farking liar Warren.

yup, NRO got the other one wrong, but where there is soke there is fire and this liar just keeps giving.

Oh, and she describes herself in the cookbook as Cherokee.

And it's not even lying if you think you're telling the truth. It's being mistaken. How many of us, when being told something about our ancestors by our parents, would go back and fact check it. 'Your great-great grandma was German.' OH REALLY MOM? TO THE GENEALOGY RECORDSMOBILE! I NEED TO CHECK THIS OUT.

Also, many of us have families that have told us some retarded story that turned out to be false, almost everyone has one of those people back someplace in their tree that just kinda makes things up or exaggerated them.
