Typical in politics. However, I think "going negative" is not a black or white issue.

Just standard Republican tactics. It doesn't matter how blatant the lie is, or how much evidence there is against it - if you say it often enough and loud enough, it becomes true. They've been doing that for a LONG time.

"First to go negative?" Damn I've been hallucinating most of the year. Maybe I need to have my house checked for mold.

It really doesn't matter who was the first to "go negative." It is inevitable that they both go negative. Who cares who does it first?

If you go negative in response to your opponent, its called "fair game". If you go first, its called being a dickhead.

Nopes. I'm quoting the typical "political speak". That's why the politicians and media make a big deal of it.

To be fair, the GOP isn't going negative. They've been negative on every single thing for 5 years now, particularly on anything that might help us.

This is what Rmoney's people mean when they say they're being positive: "It's clear President Obama's team is running a campaign of character assassination. We repudiate any efforts on our side to do so."

The Romney campaign obviously doesn't think much of the American electorate. I mean, they're blatantly assassinating Obama's character at the same time they're claiming they won't do it.

Of course, no one has ever gone broke overestimating the stupidity of the public, so maybe it's a good strategy.

clearly, the GOP is going to take the high road this campaign and not run any negative ads.

To be fair, with Romney his going negative is positive, because of his Political Quantum State...

2012-05-19 01:05:10 PM
Hey, it's politics. They don't even have to come close to saying the truth (and let's face it, Republicans anymore have so many conflicting "truths" it's no surprise they can't figure out a real truth from ideological truth now). They just have to say what the WANT to be the truth today. Enough idiot voters will eat it up to make their lies and distortions worth it. The media is too cowed to call anyone out anymore especially Republicans. For whatever reason, the media seems to live in fear of being labeled "liberal", so to avoid it they just give Republicans free pass to make up whatever the hell they want and spew it forth without any critical review by the media.

by resorting to vicious attack ads like one portraying the former Bay State governor as a vampire capitalist.

well...first off, Romney IS a 'vampire capitalist'. he made money by destroying companies and shipping jobs overseas. In fact, he was quite proud of his achievements for many years, believing that he was 'making capitalism stronger' by destroying it completely. it wasn't until he decided to run for office that Romney started to tone down the details of his record as a 'businessman'.

that said, the GOP/Romney camp *hates* those ads. sure, i'll admit some of the details are exaggerated. And yes, the timeline is off on some of the companies mentioned in the ads...i'll even go so far as to say that Romney wasn't unique or original in what he was doing. quite a lot of firms pulled similar stunts during the same time period. But a LOT of Republicans are mad as hell about that ad campaign, because despite the election year editing, the basic story is true: Romney destroyed jobs and lived well off the proceeds and NONE of the wall street insiders want rank and file voters reminded about who is really responsible for costing them thier jobs.

Really? Have you been in a coma for the GOP circus primary? A third the things that have been said are negative comments regarding another GOP candidate, another third have been negative comments regarding Obama, and the final third are lies about St. Reagan to make him look like he would belong in the modern derpstorm GOP.

You can't "go negative" if you've always been negative. So they are technically correct -- the best kind of correct.

Romney has been going negative since the last election. Were his aides not around then?

romney and obama both can stay above the fray, run positive ads all the while the PACs and super PACs spew the hate filed lie de jour.

and they both can act all butthurt when accused for going negative.

by the time the actual election rolls around the public is going to be sick and tired of all the candidates in both parties. approval ratings will be in the toilet for the federal government and you and your children and grandchildren can kiss your asses goodbye because we will be just a few years from no longer having a functioning government.

It's almost as though Rmoney will say anything, with zero regard to reality. I'm sure Fox will use this talking point for a few weeks regardless. *queue Daily Show montage of 20 different Fox "personalities" repeating this phrase

Romney's been negative, and telling tall tales about worsening economies and bad job markets.

As I heard the other day, it's a bit awkward when Romney speaks, and says there's no jobs, then the local Republican governor gets up to speak, and talks about all the new jobs in his state, at the same event..

If it's pointed out, people might not want to be vampire capitalists, and then BAM de facto socialism.
