9beers: Weaver95: the cops didn't have a reason to be there - no warrant, no probable cause.

So, according to you, the police chose an apartment at random, possibly by throwing a dart at a map, and just happened to get lucky by finding 3 people planning on engaging in domestic terrorism?

no, it seems pretty clear the cops knew these guys were protesters. that's WHY they raided the apartment - because they were there for the protests. problem is...being a protester isn't illegal.

again - not even your article links say the cops found any evidence to support a charge of terrorism. no weapons, no bomb making materials, no evidence of any planning...just some beer making equipment and crash space for a couple protesters.

the cops didn't have a reason to be there - no warrant, no probable cause. even if we go with your news links, there isn't any evidence to sustain a charge of terrorism. At worst, they're guilty of making crappy microbrews. hardly a death penalty case.

9beers: Weaver95: which part of 'no warrant' was unclear....?

Can you prove anything you're claiming? What I can prove is that 3 members of this group are now facing terrorism conspiracy charges. Link

your link includes this gem: "...held on terrorism conspiracy charges Saturday stemming from allegations that they tried to make Molotov cocktails ahead of the NATO summit, ..."

so you can prove some folks got charged. BFD what you haven't been able to demonstrate is that you are anything other than an apologist for the police state or a troll. and having seen your posts other places i still can't decide.

Farker Soze: I thought that was my point. Guess the situation is too obvious to everyone to even make satire of it.

My fault then.

I see people making statements with that exact sentiment and thought you were serious.

pedrop357: Farker Soze: Of course, if they are terrorists. Why are they terrorists? They were charged with terrorism.

You might have a fractional (not even partial) point if there was real difficulty charging people with terrorism, and/or any real penalties for falsely charging someone with terrorism.

I think he was being facetious

I really love how everyone thinks the Chicago Police drive around hanging out the windows of their cursers cracking people in the head with their nightsticks as they go by. Marking protests on their calendars with glee while they shine their riot shields.

I'm not being sarcastic to support the police or anything, they can suck like any other departemnt.

I just really think its fun for the city to have that reputation from people who never go to protests here.

Everybody has to pick a side here.

1. The State's Attorney's Office says that the three men being held on terrorism charges had improvised explosive incendiary devices, a mortar as well as a hunting bow and various knives.

2. Supporters say that they police mistook beer brewing equipment for explosives and that the police planted the weapons.

Call me a boot licker but I think I'm going to roll with option 1.

Farker Soze: Rich Cream: Riddle time. Let's say you were in a cabin in the forest and you had a candle, an oil lamp, a fireplace with kindling, and let's say a Molotov cocktail. Trouble is you only have one match. Which do you light first?

It's the bong right? I'd light the bong.

No way, sulpur with your weed sucks.

You're making pretty quick assumptions rather than waiting for actual information to be released, that doesn't do much more than create a frenzied mob-like state of people calling for someone's blood.

Wait for the actual facts.

FTA: "We're not going to talk about it. It's an ongoing investigation,'' said Police Supt. Garry McCarthy

Well, somebody changed his mind, because details of this event are all over the farking Net now!

$1.5 million bail for each of the "NATO 3"

We are to believe these three were planning to firebomb four police stations while simultaneously attacking Obama's HQ and the home of Chicago's mayor. The criminal masterminds include an idiot who was recently busted for breaking into a high school for a drunken pool party.

After NATO leaves town, I bet this is bargained down to drunk & disorderly.

What I see on Fox News:

Prosecutors say suspects were allegedly planning to attack Chicago targets including Obama's campaign headquarters and Mayor Rahm Emanuel's home, left, ahead of two-day NATO summit.

How long before 9beers starts hailing them as wrongfully accused heroes?

try reading this and perhaps rethinking that boot licking. "All three of these guys, interestingly, were in the car about a week ago that was stopped and harassed by the Chicago Police Department," Gelsomino said. "They then posted that video online in an attempt to expose that police misconduct. Each of those three are now being charged with these crimes. That's as much as we know."

The police department issued the following statement after the complaints about the traffic stop: "During the course of patrol, police officers routinely conduct investigative stops if there is reasonable suspicion to do so. The individuals that were stopped were never handcuffed and were free to go after speaking with the officers."

that's from a FL newspaper website. it's a two page article and filled with supposition after supposition due to the police and DA not releasing any info.

my guess is they were targeted and when the summit is over they charges will be dropped. remember 9/11 changed everything. none of it for the good.

No, wait, more reading...

Defense attorneys alleged that the arrests were an effort to scare the thousands of people expected to protest at the meeting of world leaders. They told a judge that undercover police were the ones who brought the Molotov cocktails.

It looks more like retaliation from posting a police stop on Youtube. The police in the stop seem to be the stereotypical beat-up hippies and protesters type. The police try to intimidate the guys in the stop by referencing the 1968 riot and say things like "a billy club to the head".

Hey Weaver, prepare to be disappointed.

However, court records show that Cook County Judge Dennis Porter signed a search warrant Wednesday night.

From this article.

The same article also says that this was the result of a month long investigation of the three suspects.

So much for the claims of no warrant or probable cause, wouldn't you say?

Chicago Tribune: Peaceful start to NATO protests

"The two groups of protesters that had been marching through the Loop converged at Michigan Avenue shortly before 3 p.m., then largely dispersed without much resistance.... The marches appeared to have lost momentum by 5 p.m."

"With their numbers far smaller than they were a few hours earlier, some demonstrators used the down time to sun themselves or drink water. A few could be heard drumming buckets, but the crowd otherwise seem fairly subdued.

Police officers largely responded to the lull by removing their helmets or chatting amongst themselves. The CPD bike patrol, however, continues to form a barricade to prevent protesters from stepping onto Michigan Avenue."

No. One of the articles quotes someone from the National Lawyers' Guild claiming there was no warrant. If you wish to go around believing anything the NLG ever says, be my guest. They've retained their Soviet DNA when it comes to speaking the truth.
