Special Forces medic: Medic? As in overeducated elitist? You don't want this college boy talking down to you, do you?

Wounded in Vietnam: Abandoned his post and helped the communists win. We lost Vietnam because of guys like this. Farking soshalist.

Heroic former sheriff: Quit his Sheriff's job? Who wants a quitter in office? If he couldn't get elected as Sheriff, why would you vote to give him a promotion?

Rappelled from helicopter to save snowbound crash victims: Wastes your tax dollars on elitist extreme sports.

Democrat: He'll take everything you own and give it to some darkies the first chance he gets. that includes your daughter.

Do you really think they won't try to swiftboat this guy? Republicans farking disgust me.

There was a similar guy I think in Texas, who had been born in Mexico but earned his citizenship by serving in the military, and who was a Vietnam Veteran. He went on to build a successful life and business, and decided to run for office- as a Democrat, of course. Republicans picketed him, calling him an "illegal alien" with signs like "go back to Mexico." The last I heard, he'd given up on serving his community due to the safety risk to his family.

LouDobbsAwaaaay: jso2897: The libtards get way too worked up about this crap. They should realize that it is a stalling tactic and a concession of ultimate defeat, and they should chillax. The last time the righties tried this, back in the early sixties, they lost, and they'll lose this time.

Things have changed in the last few decades. There is an anonymous channel to funnel undisclosed millions of dollars into every executive, legislative, and judicial race to hard-wire the outcome. Our laws are cooked up at corporate meetings and then merely sent to a bought-and-paid-for republican government to pass. Sometimes the legislators don't even bother to take off the ALEC letterhead before sending it up.

Corporations figure out what they want, then they buy themselves a republican to submit the bill, they buy a house and senate to pass it, and then buy an executive to sign it into law. And when a constitutional violation comes up, they buy themselves a judge to throw the case out. This isn't your dad's Republican party.

You have no idea what I am talking about. I am not talking about the Republican party, but about the extreme right - and please don't act twelve and say "Same thing, hurrr!"
The money is never on the nutballs - extremists like the Kochs or Soros are the exceptions - most big donors want return for their money - not bullshiat.
When America turned it's back on the extreme right after the outrages of McCarthyism and Jim Crow, the Grey Suits in the GOP dropped them like a hot potato, and spent the next 15 years being run by people like Nixon.
What the 90% of the corporate donors want is just friendly faces in power, and business as usual - which is why they give almost equal amounts to both parties.
But I am old, and have seen much in my life, and know that there is no way to tell a panicky youngster that their generation's bogeymen are not somehow new and special.

So in other words, you are completely full of sh*t. Gotcha.

Yeah, I expect as much from you. Dipsh*t

Your anecdotal evidence failures to register yourself to vote is not voter caging. You have no evidence you just want to make sh*t up and claim there is statewide voter caging, which there isn't. Arizona has some of the cleanest elections in the country and both sides generally agree on that, except extreme partisan twits like yourself.

That's true - but it's true everywhere else in America, too. By any international or historical standard, modern America is one of the cleanest and most honest democracies man has made so far. Even with the millions of people who vote here every election, incidents of election fraud are very rare, and voter fraud almost non-existent. So, yeah, you are right - the whole voter/election fraud discussion is pretty much bullshiat.
So who started the discussion? Who made it an issue? Hmmmmm?

The Republican party in Arizona is actively engaged in voter caging of anyone who registers as a Democrat.

uh huh...

I found a picture of you.
[www.ostrichheadinsand.com image 468x538]

How 'bout a citation?

As a Republican -you know that if I were to pull up a citation -you would dismiss it as part of a liberal media conspiracy.

How about this -it happened to me when I lived in Arizona.

1. Just because some people are "Republican" doesn't mean you dismiss a request for citation. Some of us are in the middle on this and aren't quite so hard-headed. I'm sure there's a logical fallacy named for this, but I can't think of what it is.
2. Anecdotal.

I'm not saying you're WRONG, but some of us like having solid proof, if possible. It may just be that there are some jackasses who do this unofficially. That wouldn't be too hard to believe.

And, yes, I'm commenting late. :P Sorry.

Benevolent Misanthrope: the way caging usually works is:

1. A campaign (or registrar in some places) sends direct mail to every address on the voter rolls for a certain area, marked "Do Not Forward"
2. They get back undelivered/undeliverable/address not found items
3. They use those returned addresses to claim that the voter does not live at that address
4. Those votes are discarded, or placed in provisional ballot status until "further verification"
5. Which usually never happens

This usually happens in predominantly black and/or Latino neighborhoods, or neighborhoods that vote overwhelmingly Democrat. It also disenfranchises kids away at college, since the mail won't be forwarded to their school address. The Republicans have used this tactic for many years - and in states with Republicans in control of the Registrar's office, laws are being passed to make it legal for the State Registrar to do it as well.

ah. I see. Here in Maine, you just need proof of residency (an electric bill or something) and an ID (and sometimes they don't even ask for the ID). I know they tried changing the law up here a short time ago...I forget the details. I remember that it sounded cagey.

2012-05-19 02:50:10 PM
To make it really clear - if Arizona has "some of the cleanest elections in the country", that country being one of the cleanest democracies in history, why does Arizona suddenly need to create a new bureaucracy, create inconveniences for it's citizens, and dig more deeply into public funds to fight "voter fraud"?
Whence comes this sudden "emergency"?

By "this guy", I hope the OP isn't insinuating that it was Richard Carmona, the subject of this story. That was someone else, named Jesse Kelly, and although I think it is an indicator of the issues in politics nowdays, it was from BEFORE the shooting, not after. To me, the M16 thing was even more significant than Palin's crosshairs picture, butlike I said, it happened before the shooting, not after. Not sure if ANY Republicans are actually THAT classless. I think Palin might even reconsider something like that.

As far as me "making sh*t up"... I'd much rather insult your mother as she is sweet on me right now. So you see I could care less about coming up with a dull story about voter caging when the glory of your mom's hole is openly available.

But again, I don't really care what some republican hick thinks about whether or not his party is engaged in voter suppression. It's likely that you think that Republicans can't do anything wrong simply because you secretly masturbate to pictures of Karl Rove --or more likely that you're unreasonably loyal to your "team".

Another reason to do it is to slow down the voting and cause such huge lines that people give up and go home rather than wait three hours in line. The challenges don't even have to be legitimate or successful in forcing someone to cast a provisional ballot, you just need to waste everyone's time so much that only a handful of a people are actually casting ballots.

Aexia: Benevolent Misanthrope: the way caging usually works is:

Thats awesome. Of course I have never heard of it. Never been sales pitched on that tactic by any member of a Campaign Committee that I have worked on. Never had a direct marketer offer to mail out those kinds of letters and collate the data.

So I dunno. Sounds a little dirty but also a little fishy. I live in a very poor area, we have the highest population of minorities in the thirty closest counties in the state. My wife and I have both worked as poll workers on local elections. Virtually all our close friends also work the polls unless they are candidates in the election. To the best of my knowledge no one has ever been turned away from casting a ballot if their name appears in the precinct ledger.

So whatever, im sure you are right, evil republicans are suppressing the vote. Never mind that we are fortunate if 20% of the population in this county shows up to vote in any particular election. But that's all republican dirty tricks of course.

It has nothing to do with your constituents not being interested in voting.

He's not a career politician and isn't an empty suit. No way he'll win.
