FTA: "And you have the white salt that is coming right out of the pipes," Cheryle Saltmarsh said.

I think I've found part of the problem. "Hey Cheryle, stop bathing in the public water supply!"

Okay, I'm done. . . .

150 years after solution salt mining and it still finds its way into wells and streams, but you know, we'll never find the chemicals from solution-based gas mining doing that, because "magic."

I once had a conversation with a cute girl from West Islip while in Manhattan for New Years Eve in 2003 who earnestly referred to Yonkers as 'upstate'. At the time I had been living in Poughkeepsie. So when she asked me where I lived, I told her. I added that I had to take a twelve hour plane ride just to visit New York City and that I lived in an igloo.

I probably overdid it with that because she looked like she was starting to have some doubts.

"Are you really from Poughkeepsie or are you just shiatting me?"

/So later my friends asked me why I wasn't in her pants and I had to explain to them that I couldn't bring myself to sexually molest a retard
//I get that geography isn't everyone forte but REALLY?

Yeah, bottled water has slight trace compounds from the plastic container, bisphenol A and some other shiat they don't even have a name for yet.

Who drinks tap water?

Or more specifically, why does anyone who lives east of the Rockies even try to drink tap water?

Because there exists good tap water outside of your little bubble?

\\NYC tap water is surprisingly good. Which it should be, as they steal it from the Catskills.
\\\\Alabama spring water is better, though.

Mazzic518: Wow someone actually got "upstate NY" right for once

I didn't know there was anything up there but a prison. As for the Upstate thing, you can include it in Upstate, but it's usually called the North Country. Upstate usually refers to central New York, not to be confused with Central New York which is actually more westerly. If you think of New York as a sideways 'T' with the top of the T being the Hudson axis and the long part of the T being the Mohawk axis Upstate is the area clumped where they meet. (Born in Syracuse, currently living just outside Albany.)

(Both links are kind of interesting for people interested about how to define the region of New York.)

I can agree with this. If you could realistically get up in the morning, drive to Poughkeepsie, Wassaic, or Otisville, get on a train and be to Manhattan by 8:00 AM, get on a train to return home that evening and do this every weekday for 50 or so weeks of the year, you live in downstate NY. I feel that upstate / downstate has more to do with the NYC commuter influences and attitudes.

That area is on a fault. A fault that is visible in the outcropping of rock on one of the island in lake Champlain.

I feel a quake coming on.

Sink holes, too, if there is a massive salt deposit down there.

I had a feeling that this would be about the north country.

/no natives call it "upstate"
