Hansen's mother told the Associated Press that the boy was violent, saying that he drew pictures of him burning the family house down. She said they feared for their safety, and said that the Russian orphanage lied because they wanted to get rid of the boy. While the Hansen sought counseling about the issue, she never brought Saveliev to see a psychiatrist or psychologist.

According to an Associated Press update on his story in April 2012, Saveliev now lives in a village made up of foster families outside of Moscow. When asked if he wanted to return to America, he shivered and yelled "No!" He refuses to speak in English, and has had to go through extensive counseling and speech therapy to start communicating again.

DIAF, lady.

It is easier and quicker. It can take years here in the US to adopt a kid from the US.

/ it's kind of like adopting a puppy from the local shelter vs. a rescue group

I can tell right off the bat this this woman is a vain, shallow, hideous creature. She wanted the prestige of adopting her very own Russian child, but when the kid was not a perfect little angel (and what kid IS?), she decides to just throw it back like a pair of Prada spiked heels she didn't like. AND to make it even more douche-y, she doesn't even have the fortitude to accompany the kid back home. Imagine how this kid feels about Americans based on this cow's actions.

I dunno about you, but this skank better PRAY that he doesn't grow up to become Putin's right hand man one day.

That is actually a myth.

It is true that getting a perfect, white infant straight from the kootchie can be hard, that isn't the case for all adoptions.

Want a 4 year old biracial kid, my wife can get that done in my state and county in a few months. The legal system doesn't mess around here.

Poor kid.

Seriously, her example of his "violent behavior" is that he drew a damn picture?

I mean, if he were trying to stab her in the middle of the night, maybe I'd have some sympathy, but a picture?

And the moral of this story is to never adopt a puppy older than 6 weeks of age.

I tried it in California, Alameda county, it was cheaper to get pills.... I did not get pills, but I had a daughter.
Im done. CA adoption rules are NASTY (the mother has ALL rights, including I pay her medical costs and she can change her mind at ANY time during the process) It was 47k for her "potential costs". I ended up paying 37k for my own child (fully insured but apparently earning too much) America sucks.

// not looking forward to explaining why her US citizenship is something she has to give up before age 18
/ she has two other citizenships, US citizenship is one of the most burdensome and hardest to give up, Im sad she has that as her burden.... but I got horny in California on my trip north.

It's pretty easy to adopt brown skin kids in the US. My sis has done it twice.

Good. It's not a TV from Walmart, it's a kid. Barring some extreme circumstances, like discovering that the kid was kidnapped, not orphaned, it should be a one way trip. I don't care if you discover he's violent, has AIDS, it 2 years older that you though, likes tuna sandwiches... you agreed to take him. The kid probably spend several years in an orphanage, you should probably expect that he'll have some emotional or behavioural problems. Be a parent, and deal with them, that's what you signed up for.

I think $150,000 + $1000/mo is getting off light, considering she basically committed child abandonment. Jail would be more appropriate. For all her biatching about how evil the kid was, she never even tried to get him help, she got help for herself. That pretty much says where the problem really lies.

I can't really fault the woman sending him back... and I'll tell you why.

Had a close personal friend ("A") who had this exact same thing happen to him with 2 adopted boys from Russia. My friend is one of the nicest guys in the world and was thrilled to be a Dad. Unfortunately the orphanage in Russia failed to let him know that both kids had horrific psychological problems. Out of respect I won't tell any of the worst incidents, but there was one time when "A" came home and found the younger boy on the roof with the older one saying "Go ahead and jump off... you won't get hurt!" He spent a couple of years getting both boys help and was finally told they were not going to get any better... and he had better watch out because when they got older they would be completely uncontrollable.

After much reflection he decided they would have to go back since they were beyond their capabilities of raising them. His wife would have nothing to do with that and it eventually ended in divorce with she having custody of both kids. Wasn't two years later when she finally said I can't handle this anymore and she sent both kids back to Russia. They were in a middle of a lawsuit last time I talked to "A" about it and I'm sure by now it's settled. That's probably been 15 years ago.

"A"'s doing great. Remarried and has a good life. Although he is terrified that the older boy may some day come back to the states looking for him - so he keeps an unlisted number.

So while it may seem terrible what that mother did I understand completely why she did it. I have seen firsthand what can happen when you literally end up adopting 2 monsters that you have no idea what's lying beneath... and both those kids were damaged beyond repair.

I live near this god-forsaken town and I am so going to steal that and paste it up EVERYWHERE!
The redneckedness of this whole thing is embarrassing!
And before you guys start, I LIVE here, I'm not FROM here!.
This woman is not a good example of the people that live here.

People research buying a car more than this woman researched buying a child. It is no secret that reactive attachment disorder and other serious behavioral issues are common with adopted kids from Russia. What, did she think the kid would fall into her open arms and instantly adore her above all else? Fark, stupid biatch. And thanks for ruining it for potential adoptive parents who are actually prepared to parent a less than Stepford child. Therapy should have been mandatory (for the kid as well as her and any other family) even if the kid seemed relatively well adjusted.

Fark this lady. She'd best not be allowed to adopt a dog in the future.

Alcohol in pill form. "Hey can you watch my kids tonight and I'll bring us some Tequila tomorrow for the effort?"

Payment for services rendered takes many forms.

Was this was a law and order episode? Russian orphanage was pawning off kids with severe mental problems to unsuspecting Americans. I think in the episode the kid killed somebody though and the Russian baby broker ended up in jail.

I'm surprised she went for a white kid. People this shallow usually go for the ethnic babies so they can show off how "enlightened" and "noble" they are.

Story lacks pertinent details. Will/can the courts impose the order to make these payments? Does she have the resources to pay. Is she even employed? Or is this just all a feel-good ruling with no teeth?
