I have been and love it. However, tiny outposts like Sedona and Flagstaff or Zion and Bryce Canyon (Ut) don't make up for the rest of their states bull shiat by a long shot. Nor do they suddenly cause Az to warrant its own tag.

I do like their handling of this.

It won't help. The sun in Hawaii is at a different level than in the continental US. I tan pretty easily and rarely ever burn (I know, CSB), but I had a terrible sun burn in Hawaii. It's like a completely different sun over there. It makes absolutely no sense, but that's how it was.

Highly recommend going. Amazing place.

Please, try to keep him off the ballot. That's not going to cause any sort of backlash or massive, outraged pouring of democrats in other states.

Nope.

Do it. DO IT. I DOUBLE DARE YOU.

If he doesn't put Obama on the ballot, what can legally be done? Do the federal courts have to get involved? What if he still refuses, does the National Guard get called in?

Obama isn't going to win Arizona anyway, so it's political theater. In all seriousness, though, if I were Obama I would have some very interesting plans for these guys after I won a second term. This guy, Arpaio, a few others. I would absolutely ruin them, and I'll honestly be kind of disappointed if he doesn't.

2012-05-18 04:50:42 PM

Nadie_AZ: Here is my proposed solution to all of this. 1. Get rid of retirement communities. 2. Move elections for the state to July.

Very nice plan, because as I've pointed out on here, the Snowbirds get to vote after something like only either 3 or 4 months in-state out of the entire entire year, so they're the farktards who are screwing up your state.

How many emails can we send to him asking about romney's birth status?

2012-05-18 04:51:33 PM
Boy I hope Obama doesn't show up on the ballot in Arizona. Not enough popcorn in the world.

2012-05-18 04:51:48 PM
So if we get 1200 people to write him emails, claiming that Romney wasn't born in the US, would he do the same? Assuming of course that those same people would deny the authenticity of any birth certificate that Romney released.

Or is this something that's only done when the candidate has dark skin and a foreign sounding name?

2012-05-18 04:51:57 PM
I'm not really sure that Arizona is a real state. I mean, people keep telling me that it was established in 1912, but were any of us there? Where's the original admittance to the Union documents? WHY ARE YOU HIDING THIS JAN BREWER?

2012-05-18 04:53:17 PM
How do states usually handle this? Birther bullshiat aside, a candidate has to prove they're old enough, live in the right place, and meet whatever other requirements depending on the election. Do they just fill out a form?

Guidette Frankentits: If he doesn't put Obama on the ballot, what can legally be done? Do the federal courts have to get involved? What if he still refuses, does the National Guard get called in?

My guess is yes, you'd get an immediate suit for an injunction and writ of mandamus filed in federal court based on equal protection and the right to vote, which would be granted. Arizona could appeal, but they'd lose. If they still refuse to put Obama on the ballot, at that point, criminal contempt provisions might apply, and U.S. Marshals could be sent in.
It wouldn't get that far.

GreenAdder: The situation in a nutshell:

Imagine if I told you I had a copy of "Evil Dead 2" on DVD. You don't believe me. So I finally show you my copy of "Evil Dead 2," and you insist that it's fake. It must be some sort of Chinese bootleg version, something I downloaded from BitTorrent, or some other form of fakery.

So some independent third party comes out, verifies that my copy of "Evil Dead 2" is legit, and wonders why you would even question it in the first place. It's like a $5 DVD and it's not exactly rare. But you persist, and move the goalposts a little.

Now you're no longer interested in the DVD itself, but the receipt. That's the linchpin of this whole works now. Sure, it might be a legit DVD, can I provide proof that I actually purchased it?

Now don't forget the bio from 20 years ago that has you listing Bruce Campbell as an asshat. THAT is proof that you really don't own Evil Dead 2, even when the copy editor admits to not fact checking your statements about Mr Campbell.

Why didn't Hawaii just say "We did already. Dumbass."

2012-05-18 04:58:25 PM

Marcus Aurelius: Bennett, the state's No. 2 elected official just below Gov. Jan Brewer (R), said his investigation isn't personal. He said the reason he started looking into it is because he got more than 1,200 emails asking him to do so after Arpaio's investigation came out

So if he got 1200 emails asking him to investigate Santa Claus he'd be on the next flight to the Arctic?

Sure.

No, he'd just sent a letter to the North Pole demanding that Santa stay out of Arizona unless he has papers proving he's in the country legally.

HawgWild: FTFA: Bennett said he was following the lead of the state's eccentric Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a fellow Republican who ordered an investigation into the president's birth certificate last year and concluded the document released by the White House is a forgery.

So ... the Secretary of State is following the lead of a county sheriff?

With any luck, he'll follow Sheriff Joe wherever Sheriff Joe goes . . . .

If Arizona refuses to put Obama on the ballot then he can sue the election board. It will go to a federal court where Obama will just show his birth certificate and the judge will laugh at the birthers while he closes the case.

That's pretty much the best case scenario for all of this posturing.

The farthest it would most likely get would be the guy publicly "reluctantly" putting him on the ballot anyway but making a big fu(king drama queen attention whore stink over the whole thing by claiming brown shirts visited him. He could also 'accidentally' misspell Obama's name or put the wrong party. I'd love to see the future screen shots of ballots if this happened. The lulz would be epic.

I'm gonna laugh so hard when Obama gets re-elected, fixes the economy, successfully winds down millitary action, jump starts education, overhauls the health system resulting in dramatic improvements in the health of americas, and basically solves all of our current problems and establishing a true golden age for America that lasts for a century and on his last day if office goes all 'lol, jk, born in kenya! seeya!'

[i.imgur.com image 360x303]

He wants something more than a certified copy of a birth certificate, but he doesn't want to go so far as to ask for even just a certified copy of the birth certificate? By definition those impulses would be mutually exclusive.

Arpaio is already under investigation by the Justice Department for descriminating against minorities, amoung other things (I am Jack's complete lack of surprise on that one).

As for Obama winning Arizona, he does have a shot of winning the state, although he is the underdog. One poll last month actually had him ahead in the state by two points.

I burn pretty easy too. Four 10-15 minute visits to a tanning salon spread evenly over the 10 days or so before your trip is a good way to prepare for it, plus lots of 50-spf sunblock. My honeymoon in Maui was truly a storybook trip. Dinner on the beach cooked by a private chef, helicopter ride over the mountains, Haleakala crater at sunrise, road to Hana, Mai Tais... awesome...

what_now: "Or the other option would be I would ask all of candidates, including the president, maybe to submit a certified copy of their birth certificate. But I don't want to do that."

Of course not. The other candidates are not black.

To be fair, the FEC really should be getting this information from candidates. Part of the reason I found it so easy to dismiss the birthers' claims right from the start is that I assumed the FEC already did things like that. I only found out later that they don't, though by that time there was plenty of other reason to dismiss birthers as the racists and dupes of racists that they had become.

It will forever be a stain upon our history that this problem was brought up by the birthers as part of their transparent attempt to keep a black man from becoming President. But a broken clock is still right twice a day, and so in this and this alone they've got a point. There should be a process for this sort of thing.

Still no need to bring Presidential vetting to a state level, though. States should vet candidates for their own elected offices, but the Presidency is a federal office, so the FEC should have jurisdiction.

SPF +100

I spent hours in hot Florida sun with this stuff (and a big hat) and lived.

Reward Hawaii for their dedication to ensuring that only the properly authorized people can access their records. Wouldn't want some furriner imposer getting access to them, don't ya know.
