They used to be just to allow you to see tweets on a topic. Then people realized they can be used for the punchline.

Lighten up Francis/Comedy Central.

The writer is pretty light about it and mainly calls the left dumb for trying that as an approach. His point was that none of the ones he'd seen from the right had been funny. Dysentery....morepopularthanObamabudget blows away any of the ones posted on the site so far.

I do miss William F Buckely.

Buckley was much less civil and witty than he's garnered credit for since his death. Go watch his convention coverage with Gore Vidal to see just how "refined", self-possessed, and "subtle" the brain of post-war conservatism really was.

He also openly supported segregation, btw, and had some rather strong words for Martin Luther King, jr.

Very, very much.

Unfortunately, conservative humor cuts too close to the bone to be seen as "humorous". While liberal humor usually pokes fun at conservative issues, the conservatives don't define their selves by those issues, so they don't take it personally. This is why they don't feel it necessary to coin such terms as "profitophobe" or "taxist". (Hyperbolic entertainers such as Rush Limbaugh aside, that is. And when you mention him, some of his material is actually quite witty, but again, it cuts too close to the bone.)
