(ABC 27)   A horse can run out to sea of course, but nobody can think a horse can swim of course, so we had to swim a mile out and rescue this poor horse of course   (abc27.com) divider line 61

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him think.

Congratulations Subby. Excellent headline.

/mine was a little strange--Triathletes beware. Horses may take up bicycling next

Come on! This article was begging for a better headline:

This horse is a horse, off course, off course

Thought this story was Fark-worthy, glad to see it here... but it's a pretty amazing feat too. You wouldn't think a big-boned animal like a horse could stay afloat for hours, while swimming a couple of miles... with one leg immobilized by his tail... in water that's probably in the fifties. Quite the testimony for the Arabian breed.

And, you know, the thing about a horse... he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes.

True. This headline ought to be taken out behind the barn and shot.

Subby, that... uh... that didn't have the right rhythm to it. Or, well, any rhythm...

10/10 for style, -20 for poor execution.

i remember someone on fark once told a story about how they were fishing in a boat in the middle of this huge lake and heard splashing nearby in the water, and discovered a deer trying to stay afloat. apparently it had swum out into the lake and could not make its way back to land and was on the verge of drowning. so the guys pulled this utterly exhausted deer into their boat, where it just lay there panting for breath. they went back to shore and took the deer out of the boat, where it managed to get back to its feet and stumble back into the woods.

I am amazed by the animal's ability to keep going for such a distance in the water. Do horses, by virtue of how their insides are built, have some capacity for buoyancy we're not generally aware of?

2012-05-17 01:47:08 PM
And now on FARK is today's lamest joke with the most obscure reference.

The horse's name obviously wasn't Morvarc'h.

Yeah, it also says something about the Arabian breed to get itself in that predicament in the first place. Stupid-ass hot bloods.

I own two Arabians so I'm really getting a kick...

The younger one's a regular Houdini; the older one is the kind who'd swim out to sea just for the sheer hell of it.

Another day is at end
Mama says she's tired again
No one can even begin to tell her

I hardly know what to say
But maybe it's better that way
If papa were here I'm sure he'd tell her

William is gone I hope he's drifting out to sea
He always loved to swim away
Maybe he'll find an island with a shady tree
Just like the one in our backyard
Mama tries hard to pretend
Things will get better again
Somehow she's keeping it all inside her

But finally the tears fill our eyes
And I know that somewhere tonight
He knows how much we really miss him

William is gone I hope he's drifting out to sea
He always loved to swim away
Maybe he'll find an island with a shady tree
Just like the one in our backyard

Just like the one in our backyard

This text is now purple: Moose swim across large bodies of water all the time...

..while squirrel fly overhead.

/And there could be a wee bit o' difference between a fat moose in a fresh water lake, than a trim horse in the Pacifc. Nevertheless, I'd argue both animals have a SG
