Aidan: thurstonxhowell: Aidan: While I agree with what's said, I thought we hated blogs. Because that's a blog. Isn't there a news outlet reporting on this?

It's a blog post about an interview that occurred on MSNBC. I'm not sure if this proves I'm a wizard, but I'm pretty sure MSNBC covered this.

Gracias. I'll go find a link.

There's a Youtube video embedded in the blog. You could just watch that.

This.

I love it when "Chirstians" refute something in the bible that Jesus said plain as farking day with soem saying their daddy taught them. But when it comes to gays some offhanded comment in the OT trumps all.

My favorite verse is at the crucifixion, when Jesus says, "Father, things aren't working out down here, can I have a job in upper management at your firm?"

Can't stand watching videos. :\ I suspect it's one of those ADD-type things, but a visual conveys almost zero information to me.

If its determined you cannot afford a child without welfare after you get preggered, its mandatory abortion time. If the child that you cannot afford is already born, a company can buy the childs working rights. The company will pay for food and school in return for a to be determined indentured servitude when the child reaches the age of 18.

Problems solved.

GoodyearPimp: What does that line of reasoning even mean? If you help yourself, why or how does God enter into it? Is this God just a glory hog, swooping in to take credit after you did it all?

Yes. It's like when athletes spend years training and sacrificing themselves and then thank God when they get a win. It's honestly sad that they can't acknowledge that they did it through their own effort.

DeaH: To be fair to that slack-jawed, fatuous dick, he never said the quote was from the Bible.

However, his opponent did quote the Bible; specifically, a Psalm in the Old Testament. If he had come up with a New Testament verse that ran counter to that, that at least would've been something.

I found the correct scripture he was looking for

From the book of Navin Chapter 1 verse 12
"The lord loves a working man, don't trust whitey, see a Dr. get it taken care of"

2012-05-17 10:07:00 AM
I've read the bibleAyn Rand and I don't remember anything in that book about Jesus feeding hungry people.

2012-05-17 10:07:38 AM
Shaggy_C: "He gives food to the hungry. The lord protects foreigners. He defends orphans and widows." Isn't this the exact opposite of the cuts being proposed by Republicans in congress?

No; the exact opposite of the scripture would be someone else trying to play God by doing all of those things for Him. If the Republicans were to vote to give food to the hungry, they would anger the Lord. You don't want a redundant God.

Christians aren't supposed to wait around for god to do stuff. God actually helps those that help others, if you believe in this sort of thing. And helping only the wealthy isn't a convincing loophole for Jesus.

2012-05-17 10:08:12 AM
Rep Barton probably hasn't read the book of Matthew, where the Lord separates the sheep from the goats. The goats were those that didn't help the poor, the foreigner, the imprisoned.

God sent them to hell for that alone. However, that sort of thinking is inconvenient to those that promote the 'Fark You, I Got Mine' version of Christianity.

Wait a minute, wait a minute.
It seems to me the author of the article is suggesting a republican was using a twisted version of Christianity to support his positions.

I know Barton is retarded, but that can't be right, can it?

swaniefrmreddeer: So when jebus feed 5000 people with 5 loaves of bread and a few fish, the bible left out the, "Go get your own goddamned food, you lazy f*cks", part?

There were centuries of conflict about the scriptures of Jesus. The truth is much more interesting. For example, did you know:

- John the Baptist did not baptize Jesus. Jesus was at a spa and John the Baptist was giving him a foot massage after a long day laying off people at a factory that made crucifixes. The irony was not lost on Jesus when they finally tracked him down and crucified him.

- Jesus did not turn water into wine. His grape operations were extensive, and it was a process that required 400 employees working overtime and at low wages. However his wines were without question the jewel of the region.

- Jesus actually spent 40 days and 40 nights at the Ritz Carlton in Lebanon, which was where he held his board of director meetings.

- Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute. She was his secretary. She oversaw many of his holdings in Jerusalem and Nazareth, but occasionally she gave him a BJ under the table. She was not worthy to kiss his sandals but she did it anyway when he told her to.

- His death at the hands of Pontius Pilate was the result of unions which demanded better compensation.

Anenu: Remember folks when the bible says something meaningless that you can say supports your views claim your doing god's work but when it directly contradicts your corporate overlords desires you can completely ignore it, just like god intended.

I'm getting tired of explaining this.

Your corporate overlords, as you call them, are superior beings. Their wealth and power is the clearest evidence of God's grace. They are chosen. You defer to them in your earthly doings. This is why unions are evil - the work of Satan. They are there to usurp the authority of God's chosen leaders.

Poverty, similarly, is evidence of one's moral failings.

Epoch_Zero: gimmegimme: So which is it, religious people? Was Jesus a great guy who wanted all children to have full bellies or was he a terrible guy who wanted them to starve?

Republicans believe in a Quantum Jesus, or "Quesus". He can exist in both all-loving and delusional narcissist states at once.

Although this can explain how he supposedly appears in two places at once, it lacks concrete cohesion with the standard model. Quesus is/not Lord!

Hmmm...Schrodinger's Deity?

It's actually an extremely atheist saying, some "christians" are just too ignorant to realize that. In essense it means that "god" won't help you, deal with it.

Whaddya mean? Jules misquotes the Bible severely in Pulp Fiction. He's just mashing together phrases, some from the Bible and some not. Even the chapter and verse he cites he gets wrong. Ezekiel 25: 17 says in KJV "And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them." I don't see anything about poisoning and destroying anyone's brothers.

I suppose what he's really saying is that the cliché taught to him by his father (who was on the school board, after all) is more relevant to him than the actual words in the Bible.

I suppose what he's really saying is that cliches taught to him by his father is good enough so he doesn't really need to read the Bible to know what's in it. He can take other people's word on it.

Why? The answer has been given time and time again, we're going to pretend Jesus didn't give a fark about the poor.

"At this festive season of the year, Mr. Jesus," said the gentleman, taking up a pen, "it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the Poor and Destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time. Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir."

"Are there no prisons?" asked Jesus.

"Plenty of prisons," said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.

"And the Union workhouses?" demanded Jesus. "Are they still in operation?"

"They are. Still," returned the gentleman, "I wish I could say they were not."

"The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?" said Jesus.

"Both very busy, sir."

"Oh! I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course," said Jesus. "I'm very glad to hear it."

Diogenes: How can we possibly afford to give subsidies to oil companies with all those greedy children begging for food? Where is the justice?

They ARE helping themselves... by buying a political system that will further enrich them. How hard is that to understand. If the poor kids were really concerned about 'free' lunches, they would get their own PAC.

Just because a huge mythology has sprung up around him does not mean that quotes attributed to Jesus about social justice and peace should be disregarded. I am not a Hindu but I think Gandhi had much to teach the world as well. As did Buddha etc.

Agreed. But lets just cut out everything that Paul said.
Yes it reduces the Bible to a pamphlet, but it'd be a really good one.
