Good for all of you who can drink coffee. My stomach has let me know my coffee drinking days are over.

/I miss it

I had the same problem for a while and finally figured out it was the acid. My coffee's about 15% milk now, but at least I can drink it again without gut problems.

Damnaged: my coffee's about 15% milk now

Milking it up no longer works for me, Damnaged, unfortunately. When the maalox stopped working, the resultant gastritis sent me to the E.R.

Like many things in life, enjoy it while you can!

I don't care what they print about it, I haven't stopped drinking it.

Literally everything you drink is bad for you.
Except pure H2O, which apparently doesn't exist.
So whatever.

Can you still have tea? Some teas can get you all jacked out too.

When my stomach bothers me I just switch to iced coffee, the ice dilutes it. I can't drink soda from a can or bottle either, but can drink it all day long on ice.

If you're not buying fresh beans and then grinding them up (darker roasts for less acid), then you should try that. Higher quality coffee is not the same. Less jitters, unless super strong. If you drink Folgers or the other canned coffees, they tend to irritate the stomach and nervous system more. Just my experience... I spend the extra money personally because I like good coffee. If it's a habit, might as well put good stuff in your body...

I'll stick to Mountain Dew. At least nobody will ever change their minds about the health benefits of Mountain Dew, so I have a leg up. Coffee is just a sugar and caffeine delivery system anyway. People will tell you that they drink it for the flavor, but they're lying. They drink it to get breaks at work and to stay awake in their cubicle-drone jobs.

I can commiserate. In my case it was the twice-daily Pradax (aka Pradaxa in the US) for my a-fib that finally made it impossible for my stomach to handle any more acid, even with 60mg of prescription Dexylant daily.

I suppose there are worst things in life than giving up coffee, but I do miss it.

An average of 3.2 cups a day?

Lightweights.

I average a pot of Hawaiian Kona blend per day. Black.

Freedman's analysis centered on healthy people; those with cancer, heart disease and stroke were excluded from the review.

This is excellent news for my upcoming research that dealing crack is beneficial* to your health.

(Excluding people who are shot to death, beaten by police, overdose, or are victims of crime or suicide.)

That's why I limit myself to no more than 600 cups a day. It's just good sense, people.

Actually pure water would kill you. If you drank enough of it it would completely deplete you of your essential minerals.

Coffee lovers less likely to die, study finds

Oh, I think they're as likely to die as anyone else.

In fact, men who drank at least six cups of coffee a day had a 10 percent lower chance of dying during the 14-year study period than those who drank none. For women, the risk was 15 percent lower...

Over a longer term, I guarantee that the chance of dying converged for all groups.

Hundreds of years of culinary history can't be wrong :)

I used to drink a lot more coffee/caffeinated soda but then I figured out that's why I had tons of headaches. Now 4 cups in a day is a lot for me (measured, not just 'whatever fits in my mug = a cup). My dad has a heart murmur but apparently after he switched to decaf it hasn't bothered him since.

Coffee good for you? Yes. 64 oz 8 shot skinny sugar- free half-caff cararmel latte with extra syrup? Not so much.

I hear that drinking coffee through your penis gives you an 18.8873% chance of living longer.

I only get the massive headaches when I fail to drink caffeine.

I call bullshiat. The Kona crop was devastated last year and it's rare as hens' teeth right now. Either you're lying about the quality, you have a stash, or you're getting ripped off.

Pussy.

I love the GFs mother who keeps on and on about how bad coffee is for you and that she has switched over to just drinking green tea because it is so much healthier than coffee every day.

Of course if we mention that her giving up her smoking a pack and a half a day would be better than giving up coffee she gets pissed.

adeist69: iced coffee

It's been almost a year since my last unsuccessful attempt to find a way to return to my coffee drinking ways, I will give this a try.

karmaceutical: Have you tried smoking it?

Maybe a vaporizer? Does caffeine vaporize before the beans burn?

IIRC, desalination plants actually have to add a small quantity of minerals to the otherwise pure H2O they produce in order to make it palatable.

I bet they have caffeine cartridges for those silly e-cigarette things I know that have hash ones. Probably opium too. Actually, I'd like to have all 3 in 1.

simsite9 quoted the article:

Coffee lovers less likely to die, study finds

I prefer this line: "men who drank at least six cups of coffee a day had a 10 percent lower chance of dying during the 14-year study period than those who drank none."

Then later on there's this: "The link to lower mortality held up whether researchers considered total deaths or deaths from specific diseases and other causes - except for cancer. When it came to cancer, deaths were slightly higher among male coffee drinkers."

I drink a lot of coffee, but with articles like these I want to know who paid for the study -- and why it's important enough to crowd out real news, like what shoes Lindsay Lohan wore yesterday.

Yeah I don't drink coffee, so this article is of no interest to me. Subby, please limit your future submissions to topics that are of interest to me.

Have you tried this? It's way less acidic than coffee brewed by drip or other conventional methods. It's also delicious to no end.

Cup or two before work. Two four-shot lattes during work. Half a pot after dinner. I don't care what it's doing to me. My heart will surely stop if I stop drinking it.

I have an office. It's also IT storage.

Kona "blend" is nearly always a rip. They can "blend" like 8 beans in there. Same deal with "Blue Mountain Blends." The real deal is very pricey... but then again, there are better cheaper single-origin beans out there.
