I love that intro on POTUS.

It's so bizarre to think that the US would be on such a fundamentally different path right now, had a handful of talking heads been a little less cynical about a man's heartfelt display of goofy exuberance at achieving a goal. farking weird.

Hey. The establishment needed to back Kerry. He was more "electable," remember?

While I wasn't on the Dean bandwagon (I admit it, I liked Edwards...), the Dean scream thing pissed me off. Really? That is his Dukakis tank moment? Audio that was manipulated for full effect?

I still can't understand why anyone anywhere cared about that little scream.

No he isn't. I didn't get on the bandwagon because he was too moderate.

It's especially infuriating when you see that Dean's 50 state strategy and embracing of internet campaigning is what Obama used to get elected. Dean had a better strategy, never voted in favor of the Iraq War, and actually had a personality. Liberal media my ass.

But it did teach all future politicians a valuable lesson. Never show strong emotions, or enthusiasm on the campaign trail.

He might have done more for us as DNC chair than he would have as Pres. He was a spectacular DNC chair.

So what are you saying, that Howard Dean lives in some utopian future similar to how Santorum lives in some dystopian past?

I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing this parallel. Whether you agree or not, Dean typically provides solid thinking behind his positions. Comparing him to Santorum is an insult, and I'm confident that our smart, non-bot Fark Conservatives would agree.

Dean could interview on MSNBC at 3 am about Lord Kimbaugh and still produce a more cogent argument than anything Santorum would say after being asked about the economy, or whether or not the sun will rise tomorrow.

Yuppo. Watching FOX and the so-called lefty media just destroy the guy overnight for one disingenuous sound byte was a real lesson for me at the time.

The ability of the US media to shape opinion under the guise of informing and reflecting opinion is frighteningly effective.

I don't like talking on the phone for anything that requires thought while driving. But to be honest, I don't even talk on the phone very much.

Yep. It effectly knocked him out of the race before my state's primary, so that voting for him wasn't possible.

It was totally manufactured. It wasn't actually goofy or maniacal. His mic picked up only his voice and the room was filled with shouting and screaming. In context, there's nothing extraordinary at all. Even the 24 hour news channels realized this after playing the isolated scream over and over.

How to be unelectable among Democrats: yell loud, don't agree with everything Republicans propose.

How to stay electable among Republicans: leave a couple of your wives, maybe one on her deathbed; cut jobs in America; suggest the state you attempt to govern secede from the nation; become a citizen of another country; torture a dog; propose getting rid of any/all regulations.

Remember, both sides are the same.

*Sigh.*

A Democrat, who aside from saying, "hey, that's a really bad idea, guys," to the Iraq war and "give health insurance to the age group it's really cheap to, yet will do the most good" (children), was the moderate's moderate, facing Bush in Fall 2004. Before the housing bubble truly blew up and exploded.

If he'd had the chance to do for our country what he did with the DNC...

// the slashies sigh, too.
