This proves that he loves socialist sandwiches and should be booted from his seat by someone who's more ideologically pure.

He reciprocated by offering Mr. Obama a sh*t sandwich.

So the debt deal that was made last year is out the window now? Is that what Boehner is saying? Or is he saying he has a weakness for cucumber sandwiches with the crusts removed?

Didn't the Repubs come away looking like spoiled children last time we did this and Obama looked like the guy just trying to fix stuff? Do they really want to do this fight again?

Did the deal include any repercussions for the GOP reneging this year?

To the general public, yes. To the GOP base voters, it looked like they appeased the soshulist kenyan blah man because they didn't leave a flaming cross in the White House lawn. That's why they've been picking them off in primary contests.

They're pandering to the Tea Party as though the Tea Party would ever consider voting for a Democrat. No wonder Boehner is crying all the time.

I'm kind of surprised Boehner is pushing Obama on the debt ceiling again. Last time it almost cost him his Speakership. I think this agenda is being pushed by people even more to the right than he is, and he's acceeding just to stay in power. To be perfectly honest I think he's in his death throes as Speaker. Cantor is breathing down his neck to get rid of him and it seems to me that Obama isn't going to compromise on this. Stuck between Barack and a hard place.

The sandwich might as well be his last as Speaker, like a Death Row final supper.

why is obama even meeting him? he has zero power. he's the weakest speaker in a long time.

The full readout from Boehner's office:

Bullshiat.

i don't believe a word of it.
I want 3rd party unaffiliated recollection of the events that took place.
I mean, Boehner didn't even include the part where he ran out of tissue or when he cried his way to the sammiches!

Gotta keep up appearances, I guess. Obama will have to deal with the GOP at some point, if they're truly interested in pushing this to a showdown. Again.

I honestly don't understand how they think they can balance the budget with spending cuts alone (but of course NO cuts to Defense)?

Obama should call their bluff. Have them present a plan that balances the budget with non defense spending cuts alone, then show that plan to the American people and explain to them what that means.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if that were teh case.

Remember, the tea party is now turning on Mitch McConnell in the Senate. The guy who said it was his number one priority to make Obama a one term president.

Considering they are pulling the "he doesn't have enough executive experience to be President" talking point again, I'd say they quite possibly do want this fight again.

McConnell's not good enough, for a couple reasons.

First, he said "number one priority", which implies he has other priorities; this is unacceptable.
Second, he said "one term president", which implies that Obama would finish his first term in office. This is also unacceptable.

McConnell should be spending every waking minute working towards impeachment. Anything else means he's got to go.

And Lugar lost, too, because he had the audacity to compromise with Democrats on occasion.

Basically he has two choices:

A) Appeal to the Tea Party nut jobs and have Republicans lose seats (even maybe giving Obama a better chance of re-election)

B) Compromise and look sane and get kicked out by the Tea Party.

Looks like he is picking A. However it's sad that the country has to pay the price for this BS.

Yeah, maybe puppetmaster was the wrong word. In any case, it doesn't seem like Cantor would gain much from becoming Speaker, when he's got a Speaker who does his bidding or is publicly excoriated (and then does his bidding anyway).

The timing is actually a little different. This next debt ceiling fight is going to come to a head during the lame duck session after the election.

If Obama wins, and the Republicans hold the House, Boehner is likely to get ousted or step down shortly there after. Cantor will probably replace him.

So when Obama says "I think we should make cuts AND raise taxes for the rich a little" - Something the vast majority supports (including many Republicans) what the fark are the Republicans going to do?

Once again they seemed not to plan this out. But again the are not thinking about anything they just want to attack Obama and if that means screwing over the US to do it and shooting themselves in the foot again. So be it!

Well if that is the case this is all BS posturing because after the election things will be a lot different. However I wouldn't be surprised if the GOP votes against it just to try to screw up the economy for Obama no matter what.

I have to say that it REALLY played badly with the rest of the world last time.

Well, maybe not China. But everyone who needs the US economy to be strong to aid their own recoveries, and who looked on in stunned awe as the Reliblicans played politics with a routine matter and caused a downgrade. Astonishing that they are planning on doing it again. It almost as if they want to fark up your economy...

It played badly with the US public as well, except for some outspoken mouthbreathers. The GOP has become incomprehensible.
