Ponzholio: I_C_Weener: Ponzholio: netweavr: Make sure you print out this thread so he can read i... oh

Maybe ask for $5,800 to include the cost of an iPhone too so Siri can read this thread to him...

I donated, but I want my money used only for braille Playboy.

Hell, just give him last month's 'Better Homes & Gardens' and tell him it's a Playboy...

Crap. You are right. I could've saved my money.

Abzzstain: It farking infuriates me that in this country we're reduced to bake sales, change jars at the Kwik-E Mart, and paypal donations to pay for necessary medical procedures.

Except that isn't the case, Medicaid will pay for this procedure as long as he meets the income requirements. Since he can't pay his bills, I'm assuming he would.

Not trying to shiat on a donation thread just saying that the guy needs to get on the phone like right now and see if he's going about this the wrong way.

MissFeasance: Bunny is not shady. He won't win any beauty contests, but I absolutely trust him. His word is enough for me.

i think he's gorgeous ...

and i'll back every word she says

Alan (dj4aces) is a great and personal friend of mine. I sincerely appreciate, on his behalf, everything we can collectively do for him.

I haven't read through the thread yet, but I do know that Farkers make our community, and I have no doubt in my mind that we can make this happen for him. He is a longtime Farker (as mentioned above), and I can't recall anytime he's actually ever reached out for help. He's always the one reaching out to see how HE can help.

Let's do this, Fark.

For clarity, Alan has recently gone completely (though reversibly) blind?

Is he capable of caring for himself until the operation?

mr_bunny: Cybernetic: mr_bunny: Cybernetic: Is there a "donation" link, or is a working PayPal account required?

I don't have a PayPal account, but I'd like to help.

So far, we've got paypal, paypal and paypal. or you can email me and I can help get snail mail to him.

There are others helping him as well, but they have yet to show up here.

If you want to help, we will find a way to make that happen.

Anyone know how to get in touch with darkhorse23? That's who did the PayPal donation link for RabidDog.

I will see her in like 3 days when we head to SC for some vacation.

Perhaps she could repurpose the beyondfark.com page and make the current one for this cause, and keep Carl's page available but archived since there is no more collecting going on for that.

If she can't I know someone who has access.

first small thing i've been able to do in a while. what better than helping a Farker.

Man, Type I diabetes sucks bad enough without the blindness to go along with it. Sorry to hear about this.

2012-05-16 03:29:10 PM
$5 is a drop in the bucket. Done. Hope you get your peepers back in order.

2012-05-16 03:29:21 PM
mr_bunny

Please get with him and ask if he's inquired about using Medicaid to cover this.

Thanks

/Solidarity!

This.

Is he a fattie? If there's one thing I learned on Fark is that fatties should get diabetes because of how fat they are and they should have to pay more for insurance because of how fat they are.

Not really, man. He reached out to a ton of us on fb to ask for literal help in a post *as* he was losing his sight.

It is heartbreaking.

I gotta know.

How do you know when you are done wiping if you can't see anything?

2012-05-16 03:31:28 PM

mr_bunny: MissFeasance: sign_of_Zeta: Here's my view on the situation: I have never had a reason to believe this farker is shady in any way. I'm going to try to help him in this serious of a situation. If we all give 5-10 bucks we could save his eyesight. If I end up being ripped off of 5 bucks because I tried to be a good person, then that's a price I'm willing to pay.

Bunny is not shady. He won't win any beauty contests, but I absolutely trust him. His word is enough for me.

I prefer "ruggedly handsome", but in a pinch "He won't win any beauty contests" will have to do.

I think you're handsome. Don't listen to Feasy, she wears underwear on her head.

2012-05-16 03:32:01 PM
dj4aces is a great person, would be in here if there were someone else in XXXX.

Anywho, please donate whatever you can to help him out--we are not asking for the moon, only what you can spare. All he needs is $5k to get the treatments needed so he doesn't lose both eyes.

I AM BACK ON HERE BECAUSE OF THIS

mr_bunny: Paypal address: savealansight[nospam-﹫-backwards]oohay*com

I can't remember my paypal password and am too lazy to go digging for my credit card, so I sent money to that email address using Chase QuickPay. You should get an email with a link that you can click on to transfer the money to your account.

Was that where he was scared like he was in college? Or was that Farktoberfest 2006?

mr_bunny: MissFeasance: bdub77: That email worked for me.

Did for me on my second time around, I must have typoed something. Also +1 for the thread.

Cool.

He is an amazingly nice guy, I met in way back in Atlanta in 2006.

There is a good chance your better half did as well, although the copious moonshine might have erased that night from his mind.

Could you give a periodic update to how close you are to the goal, like a Falwell telethon? Really curious and hoping for the best.

Can you/him setup an Amazon wish-list or something? That's a little less shady than an open PayPal bucket and would result in aiding him with basic necessities. Granted it wouldn't help with the "holy shiat I need $5k for an operation" but it would help with the day-to-day stuff.

2012-05-16 03:36:23 PM
Since he wouldn't be able to see bie do you think Grable's Daughter would arrange a Braille session for him?

Donated because you vouched, GD. Good luck.

I asked for help a few months ago and got some. I told myself I would pay it forward if I could. I sent what I could.

Best of luck.

So I learned there's a book on Amazon about coping with losing your sight.

Not an audio-book either...

And skipping Medicaid, it's not at all clear that in countries such as the UK this would get taken care of in time at all; the waits for limb-saving procedures much less delicate than this one routinely push people into "guess we have to amputate now".

atomic-age: skybreaker: You usually don't have to pay for medical proceedures up front........

I'm sitting at home with a tube up my nose, courtesy of the second of two tests I've suffered through today. When I presented my insurance card at the hospital check-in desk, I was told that they expect my share of the bill to be $900+. Then they asked for half of that up front.

I had expected to be billed, but that wasn't presented as an option.

Ehh? the last time I went to the hospital, a few years ago for a dislocated shoulder, I pretty much had to force someone to take my co-pay. Hospital wanted nothing to do with it when i checked out, just said I'd get a bill. A bill never showed up, and it took me 6 months of calling everyone under the sun to eventually track it down and get them to take my stupid 20 bucks.

R.A.Danny: LineNoise: that all sounds....kind of shady.

mr_bunny is probably the third most honest person you'll ever met.

Am I #2? Cause I have references. Hell, you can ask GD all about me. And I am pretty sure you have my name, what I do and where I worked.

/Not often you can get a real name from Fark.

I always wonder if the Type 1 people hate the Type 2 people for giving their affliction a bad name.

Different hospitals in different states will often have different policies in regards to getting their money. I once had my wages garnished by a non-profit hospital over $250.00. Which was awkward because I worked there.

I think that's more Jorie territory, and I don't recommend it since people seem to like the guy.

This is a good idea, too.

rickythepenguin: from what i recall, the money we raised for Rabid Dog ended up being the only means to send his remains home. knowing i was a little piece of that for his family's sake is one of the cooler things we've ever done on TF.

FYI, for the trolls/morons

Type I diabetes is "juvenile diabetes". It's diagnosed during childhood or adolescence. Due to genetics or plain bad luck (it has nothing to do with being overweight), your pancreas shuts down and stops producing insulin. You have to take multiple insulin injections and monitor your blood sugar every day for the rest of your life in order to survive. Or you can have an insulin pump implanted into your body. Sounds fun, huh?

Type II diabetes is the "you're too fat" kind. There's a pill for it. That's not what we're talking about here.
