Farker dj4aces has type 1 diabetes. He is suffering from diabetic retinopathy, which are burst blood vessels in his eyes.
His left eye has been blind since early February, but now he has also gone blind in his right eye.
He needs any and all help farkers can provide. Since he is blind he cannot work and as his work
has provided no insurance, he has difficulty even paying current bills.

An outpatient procedure is available that will cost around $5000.
The sooner he can pay for the procedure, the more chance he has of saving his sight.

His next doctors appointment is June 4th.

We have a paypal account set up for donations. Even if you can only throw in a few bucks, please do it.

Cool.

He is an amazingly nice guy, I met in way back in Atlanta in 2006.

There is a good chance your better half did as well, although the copious moonshine might have erased that night from his mind.

You're a good man, bunny.

2012-05-16 02:22:38 PM
I'm told there is some type of fund or foundation established by/for TF'ers that helps with these sort of things. Perhaps Drew would know.

2012-05-16 02:24:22 PM
I think Fark should set up the Slkfsdfsanwernvlandsolij Institute for the Blind, and then follow up with a sister school, the Anne Frank School for the Blind and Deaf.

You usually don't have to pay for medical proceedures up front........

It's the Friendship Fund that was set up in Naskar's memory. I spoke with cackylacky last night, though, and that paperwork is still in the process of being approved, and so it isn't ready at this time.

Doctor office visits are usually paid up front and if he doesn't have insurance, that would be a barrier to getting to the procedure.

Then you go directly to a hospital. No health ministry will turn you away.

If a surgery will save your eyesight they'll do it.

I was sitting at a table, sipping on a beer and chatting it up with some folks, and he shambles over, slams a half empty mason jar on the table and said, slurringly, "Drink this, bunny!"

"Nope, dude, I am so not gonna slam a bunch of clear whiskey. You enjoy your hangover."

I believe as he wandered away, mumbling something questioning my sexual orientation and associated manhood for not joining him, he indeed drank the whole thing.

I did see him face down in a hallway of the hotel at one point.

/good times

If you're meaning he should go to the ER, then no. Outpatient procedures aren't something you can have done in the ER.

I'm saying that most medical procedures you have to cover up front are either expirimental, unecessary or have low success rates.

I've been hearing that more and more for-profit hospitals will not to elective procedures without being paid up front. Does surgery for diabetic retinopathy fall into the "elective procedure" category? Unfortunately it can. Because you can live without your eyesight.

Bleh.
