You can't admit that cops beating up a bunch of clowns for pie throwing wouldn't be at least a little bit funny, even if it is a major dick move?

what_now: Can someone explain to me why NATO is bad? Did these fng morons confuse NATO with NAFTA?

As was explained to me by a member of the OWS Chicago, NATO is for war, and therefore OWS opposes it, because, as you know, OWS is anti-war...in addition to being anti-Wall Street.

Do I understand the logic? No. But I'm sure there is some in there somewhere.

Jesus titty farking Christ.

I want to find one of these idiots, rip off the designer bandana, and explain what a farking treaty is used for.

England, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France have not been at war with each other in almost 70 years. That hasn't been a true statement since the fng Romans conquered them all.

NATO is a big reason why.

The group says its intention is to be "both disarming and tactically militant," and its members are trained in "hard blocks, soft blocks, de-arrest techniques as well as other historically significant tactics."

"De-arrest techniques"? Like what? Running like hell when the riot cop is about to knock your chiclets out? Pointing at the guy next to you?

The group also provides basic training in clowning.

I think a lot of OWS already has plenty of natural talent in this area.

That's what came to mind with me too.

I found it yet more amusing since they plan to expose the violence inherent in the system by, you know, throwing things at the police. You might as well complain about how angry that dog is because he bit you when you poked him with a stick.

Farking morons. If you want to protest, protest, but the moment you start damaging property and assaulting others* my tolerance for the BS ends.

* Yes, throwing pies is assault. You might be surprised at what passes for assault these days- any kind of physical contact that the recipient felt was threatening will usually work. So yes, even poking somebody in the chest with a finger (even if very lightly) is assault in many jurisdictions. If they want to get a real point across, do it without throwing things.

A protest is about symbolism and NATO is something most people would associate with war not with peace. I'm not versed on the finer points of the law on what constitutes an assault when it pertains to "hand buzzers, flowers that squirt water and balloon animals", but if I was minding my own business or I was an innocent bystander and someone applied any of those to me, then I would probably knock the shiat out of them.
As for as balloon pops.... Hard call, but one would hope that cooler heads would prevail. If you have a volatile situation, and all of a sudden one starts hearing, "Pop Pop", well.... I'm pretty sure assumptions are going to be made by many that can't see it was balloons. I know if I didn't see it was a balloon and me being very familiar with the Chicago area... gun play is going to be one of the first things that cross my mind. Cops who do not see "balloons popping" aren't going to take a chance either I would guess.

If protesters want to protest and push the envelope as to what is considered a peaceful demonstration and then pass that "what's reasonable" point... they have no one but themselves to blame for the aftermath.

No, it's the 'occupy' mouthpieces that do their own damage. Had to escort a guy out of a party last week because he kept trying to shove the 'occupy' agenda down everyone's throats. There are ways to effect change, rattling off talking points ad nauseum is not the way to do it. Made me feel like I was speaking to an evangelical.

Farking morons. If you want to protest, protest, but the moment you start damaging property and assaulting others* my tolerance for the BS ends.

It's certainly not turning fire hoses on segregation protesters in the 60's...
But then there's party poppers that spray confetti, and stuff like this:

God I hope nobody is stupid enough to bring this stuff to a protest.

And yeah sure those people are being naive but in a world where 70+ percent of Americans supported the Iraq war before we invaded and now you can find 1 mother farker that supported it tells me we could use more people that are just against all war all the time.

We could use more SMART people who are against war all the time. We could use more Quakers. We could use more Janet Rankins.

We don't need people dressing up in clown costumes and throwing pies in people's faces.

Yeah man, clown costumes are ridiculous! Better side with the murderers wearing ties.

Sigh.

People like you do more damage to the Occupy Movement than the CEO of Bank of America.

I just want to make sure you understand that.

Must've been a rockin' party.

I agree whole heartily, but if anything in the past has taught me about these protests, there is that certain element who will provoke something to draw more attention to it and damn the consequences .

Since 'Any' is more than 'None whatsoever,' the answer is yes.

I was referring to the controversy over her apparent "minority status" she claimed, but I have neither the time or energy at this point in the day to chase down the low down on her.

What I meant was that she did claim to have Native American heratige, a claim that has been disproven pretty dang firmly.

Yeah, this sounds like a REALLY bad idea. Throwing pies at angry guys with sticks and guns and radios to call more guys with sticks and guns...

doesn't anyone remember Fantomas???

Forget that, they just need to call Rupert Murdoch's angry asian wife (in the pink blouse).

It also depends on what kind of pie. Is it shaving cream? Whipped cream? Or a 5-pound apple pie (those farkers can hurt)?

Think how easy it would be for a cop to infiltare this bloc and start sh*t with the police.

If I was a cop and that that mentality it would be fun as hell. Dress up like a clown and throw a pie in a face of a co-worker I don't like. Who would not do that for free?

/Yes, I happy to be wearing some sort of foil.

Even when violent factions like Blackbloc are kept in check by peaceful factions, there are always the police to help things out.

I tried and was heartily abused for my lack of respect for "Clowndom"

I guess that it didn't help that I told them that:

// b) I hated clowns
/// III) was thinking about a museum featuring lost boys

Some people just don't have a sense of humor.

Fine. Be against war. It shows you're pretty ignorant of human history and almost criminally naive, but you go for it.

But don't protest an organization whose very existence has reduced the scale of war for the last 75 years.

A protest is about symbolism and NATO is something most people would associate with war not with peace.
