They need a diversity candidate to try and claim to be the party of inclusion. I think it's gonna be Rubio or Haley.

Rubio's the florida connection + tea party + hispanics they will try and pull over - I have a feeling he'll be the choice.

Haley is Indian and has a vagina, along with 1 year of executive experience and 5 years as a part time state senator. She may or may not have committed adultery.

I'd put Christie, Paul Ryan and Bobby Jindal in there as second tier possibilities, Paul Ryan because he's from Wisconsin and is Congress's deficit/spending guy, and Jindal because of diversity (but I don't think he offers much else in terms of electoral votes).

And, both have stated they don't want the job, either.

Paul Ryan is toxic thanks to his budget fiasco.
Bobby Jindal is too foreign and Christie is too kind to Muslims for the Republicans to ever embrace.

Personally, I am hoping he picks Palin and just admits he has no chance.

Hmm, guess Pawlenty can read a poll.

/Still thinking Rand Paul for Veep.
//Southern, teatard darling, white.
///He could survive being veep on a losing ticket better because of his youth factor.

Pulling over hispanics, already a key platform item in Arizona.

He wants to be a part of the "I told you so" brigade when Romney loses.

Who else is on that brigade?

Huckabee
Huntsman
Santorum...

Pawlenty also went the Lady Gaga route, saying President Obama had "duped" younger voters - who heavily supported him in 2008 - during his campaign, adding, "What the younger voters have figured out this is really a broken relationship. He made soaring promises, set grand expectations. "

He added, "He's broken those promises. He's failed to fulfill the expectations. If this was a Lady Gaga song, the relationship between the youth vote and Barack Obama would be 'Bad Romance.'"

The crowd didn't immediately react, Henderson reported, but came around when the former Minnesota governor added, "You know what I'm talking about."

Just looking at a picture of Tim Pawlenty makes me feel sleepy.

Did this guy use up all his charisma getting elected and now is just coasting on inertia?

2012-05-16 01:37:28 PM
They're taking someone from one of the swing states we have never heard of, just to get the hype factor and try and win those states.

//Or Kay Bailey Hutchinson... Do it Romney. Do it!

No one wants to step on board a sinking ship. Bad for your political career.

2012-05-16 01:41:17 PM
I'll bet Romney is just too wild for Pawlenty. He couldn't handle the constant voice inflection and occasional color use.

2012-05-16 01:41:22 PM
I believe one of the big rules of politics is "Never jump onto a sinking ship". In other words, unless you are a COMPLETE media whore, if you are the losing VP candidate, that is going to be a huge problem for your political career going forward. The other option is to be a total douchenozzle (Lieberman)...

If you are a big name, you are aiming for a spot on the 2016 ticket. The odds are just too long right now and would likely destroy anyone's chances at 2016. The only question is can the GOP force someone like Rubio onto the ticket against his will, find someone who wants to leverage the campaign for media attention (like Palin did) and doesn't care about winning now or in the future, or find someone who doesn't have much of a chance in the future.

A super ambitious, super aggressive, ruthless demagogue lies about his past to embellish his political future and fortunes???

"To suggest my family's story is embellished for political gain is outrageous," Rubio said in a statement issued by his office. "The dates I have given regarding my family's history have always been based on my parent's recollections of events that occurred over 55 years ago and which were relayed to me by them more than two decades after they happened. I was not made aware of the exact dates until very recently."

Oh, and his father was caught with a hooker doing the nasty in a parking lot of a suburban restaraunt.

Only too transparently true, and yet losing candidates continue to miss that simple and obvious truth.

It was his father, she was female. I think he just got off with a fine and probation. I'm trying to find the old article in the Star Tribune, I think it was during his last governor's election.

As a side note to this, I've yet to see any Romney for President bumper stickers. I've seen quite a few Obama 2012 and Nobama 2012 stickers, but no Romney.

Romney took less that 75% of the vote in the Oregon and Nebraska Primaries last night

Mitt Romney 195,835 72.3%
Ron Paul 34,634 12.8%
Newt Gingrich 14,820 5.5%
Other 25,749 9.5%

McCain managed 80.9% in 2008 and 285,881 votes in the 2008 primary

Nebraska was worse

Mitt Romney 129,548 70.9%
Ron Paul 18,199 10%
Newt Gingrich 9,523 5.2%
Other 25,537 14%

At least more people turned out in Nebraska for Romney, than they did McCain (118,065)

Well his dad's name is Eugene Pawlenty. There is nothing on Minnesota's online public court data site. Either I'm making this up, or his father pled to have it not stay on his record, or the Pawlenty campaign has burried the info.

Ether way, just pretend I made it up so I don't get sued because I can't find a citation.
