Yup. And the sad thing is, if that tremendous motivation were actually completely removed from his life, he'd probably be a fairly palatable neighbor/BBQ buddy for most of the country. Instead he's just a tool shed.

In a 1994 Senate debate with Ted Kennedy, Mitt Romney revealed a startling chapter from his past: A close relative had died many years earlier in a botched illegal abortion, shaping Romney's stance in favor of safe and legal access to abortion for all women.

Wow, almost makes you think he wasn't a RomneyBot his whole life. Dude had feelings. Welcome to how the rest of us feel about it, safe, legal and rare. So stop fighting contraception you douche.

There really is no limit to his douchebaggery is there.

This shows that beyond a shadow of a doubt he understands what all of the anti-abortion legislation he and his party are sponsoring will mean. This means he is 100% aware that he is advocating for a painful death sentence for countless young girls.

That's not a terrible thing as long as he doesn't mind other people doing so. I've thrown grill-outs where I've been fairly glad there was at least one or two completely sober people, particularly around clean-up time.

Could be Romney's sister's husband had a sister. He'd be brother-in-law to the husband but not the rest of that family.

This is precisely why he is a ROmneybot. he had to be ok with abortion because he was running in Mass. The rest fot he republican party doesn't cotton to that attitude so now he is changing his tune.

Kind of a pointless gesture, since the Supremacy Clause is still, you know a thing that exists. It would get slapped down at the first (sane) higher court to hear it.

Yeah I'm gonna go with liam76 on this one. Seems more likely he did stuff like RomneyCare in MA because he wanted to be governor, not because he cared.

liam76: This is precisely why he is a ROmneybot. he had to be ok with abortion because he was running in Mass. The rest fot he republican party doesn't cotton to that attitude so now he is changing his tune.

Well, the thing is his reason made me think he had feelings. You could come up with lots of reasons to be pro-abortion, or he could just come out and say it as MA governor. Instead, he had a reason that included presumed feelings.

I don't have a problem with you using the term honky. I just ignored the rest of your comment assuming you were too derped up on something. If that was your goal, Mission Accomplished. I didn't conclude you were stupid or ignorant though, since I've seen perfectly reasonable posts from you many times before. Others seeing you for the first time might though.

In the conservative mindset, this isn't a drawback. It's what they deserve. By ensuring safe abortions, liberals are abrogating justice.

No no no, states are not passing laws banning abortion. They are passing laws that result in the closing of abortion clinics. They are not forcing clinics to close, they are just passing legislation that requires just abortion clinics to update themselves to new standards and oh if it's too costly the clinic shuts down. Or they are passing legislation that requires abortion clinic doctors to have new standards and oh, those doctors do not meet those new standards? Oh wells. Abortion is still perfectly legal! That's the game the states are playing.

Yes, but that is still unconstitutional state action. It's well established that the state cannot do indirectly what it cannot do directly.

I mean, first, I disagree the SCOTUS will rule those laws unconstitutional. They were passed under the guise of safety. Second, it doesn't matter. Pass the law, get the clinic shut down, few years later the law is shot down by the SCOTUS but whoopdy doo, the clinic is already shut down. Will it open back up? Maybe, no bigs, we'll just pass a different law to get rid of that one.
