Funny how Uwe doesn't seem to be working so much since the German government closed that massive loophole in its tax code that allowed people to bankroll his movies to dodge taxes.

Pretty damn much.

Nobody takes his movies seriously, because he doesn't take his movies seriously. He's not even a hack, but the thing that annoys folks about him is that he managed to f*ck up some properties that could have had decent movies made, and instead he got the rights.

That's my beef with Verhoeven. Folks who have no respect for the intellectual property get the rights, and then they piss on it.

He's uncompromising, and endlessly confrontational... but he's also got a wicked sense of humour.

No he isn't and no he doesn't. Say what you will about Michael Bay but one gets the impression that he actually believes his shiat is good, whether it really is or not. Boll is a cynical money grabber who wouldn't even be in business if he didn't callously work the system.

I will watch any Boll movie. For me his work is squarely in the so bad they are good. I am sure he did not plan on making bad movies so to hit that level every time is just amazing. If Postal is ever on late at night... Oh ya I will watch it.

Loophole closed in 2005. He's made more movies after 2005 than he did before. In the US these have been mostly direct to video, however to imply he's suddenly stopped making movies is incorrect, according to IMDB he's directing 2 others at the moment.

So he's working as much, just with less of a budget.

I couldn't disagree more. I thought that 3 was an over-complicated mess that really needed to have some leavening.

I also like the fact that we have one spy franchise that's not so utterly caught up on faux realism that we're not allowed to enjoy gizmos and gadgets anymore. (I'm looking at you new-Bond!)

Dr Boll is from Germany, which would account for his first name being German. You attempt at a pun ignores this fact in order to go for the cheap, obvious American phoenitical pronunciation based on our vernacular. Dr Boll, being German, does not apply to this as the U is pronounced "oo", the W is pronounced as a "V", and the E is pronounced with a long A. Ipso facto, it is pronounced "oo-vay". I trust that in future attempts to make puns on foreign names, you will properly observe their phoenitical rules.

Oh, and by the way. The proper homophone for "you" is "ewe". So I suggest you bank that joke for the next time people are talking about female sheep. Maybe you won't come across look so foolish.

Canada has similar laws to Germany, and bankrolls "Canadian art".......I guess hiring a Canadian caterer makes it fully Canadian. And Boll moved to Vancouver.

I think that's because Brosnan's Bond became focused solely on gadgets and gizmos, to the point that there wasn't a single situation where he didn't have some fancy technology to easily get him out. It really became absurd Craig's Bond was more focused on his skills than what he had at his disposal. His Aston didn't have rocket launchers or grease traps or the ability to turn completely invisible. All it had was a place to hold his gun, a defibrillator/medkit, and seatbelts.

/Quantom of Solace sucked ass though

"We can add a lot of humour, also; like, 'where's the toilet?', you know? All this kind of stuff, how a normal guy from today's time would really react in the old times, and adjust to a situation like this. And of course it's a fantasy movie, so it's not historically correct. We thought it's maybe a good idea to move the second part in a direction like this."

This is actually how profoundly uncreative people think that creative people think.

GreenAdder: He's right about MI4.

I was actually excited about the movie because of Brad Bird directing it, but the ending was too silly for me suspend my disbelief. I'm sorry, but as soon as that Russian sub launched the nuke it would been game over for the world. The launch would have either been detected and a US retailitory strike inmediately launched, or the US attack sub assigned to tail the Russian boomer would have torpedoed it, starting a war. There's just no way to stop the machinery of MAD once a bird is in the air headed for US soil.

Also, AK47 bullets can't penetrate very far into water. Doesn't anyone in Hollywood watch Mythbusters?

That movie is also pretty bad, BUT... the concept (not of the movie, but what he actually did) was farking brilliant in some insane masturbatory way.

Bluberella was actually a shot for shot parody of Bloodrayne The Third Reich, WITH all the same actors except the titular role. I was really confused when i started watching it becuase id drank my way through the Bloodrayne trilogy a few weeks earlier, i was like "Wait... didnt i already watch this movie? Im almost sure i didnt, but thats the same guy... wtf is going on here" and then i looked it up.

Rampage was also not terrible, In the Name of the King, Farcry and Alone in the Dark were though.

I'm the opposite, I disliked 3 and really liked 4 (it may be my favorite of the 4 movies so far). I like a fair amount of JJ Abrams stuff, but he's really showing the same sort of cliche problems that other directors like M Night Shymalan have. Just like every Shymalan movie has a lame twist at the end, every Abrams product has some sort of lame McGuffin to drive the plot.

/just curious, which tech did you find ridiculous? The only thing that stands out to me was the portable mask making device in a case, but it makes sense they would need something like that, and it broke down anyway. I highly approved of the limited usage of masks in 4.

But at least with Boll, he has given us some "so bad it's good" movies, and let's face it, most of those video game franchises wouldn't have made good movies anyway. (Alone in the Dark being an exception on both counts.) Personally, I would rather see Dr Boll get a five picture deal in exchange for Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer never geing given a dime to make another movie again. These two thieving turds have made a career out of doing nothing more that pilfering pop culture references, viral videos and recent movies. They approach the gags by doing nothing more by reminding you of recent things. Their gags don't even attempt to be funny and are padded out mercilessly until the alleged "movie" barely qualify as a feature length film as qualified by the MPAA. And even then, they still have to drag the end credits out to about fifteen minutes. (The only funny thing about their movies is how slowly the end credits run.) I can't even call them movies. They're fake rolexes.

And at lesat Uwe Boll has the courage to stand by his shiat films. Friedberg and Seltzer run and hide and hope you forget about the last ripoff before they try to sucker you with their next scam job.
