BEER SNOB THREAD! GO!

2012-05-16 09:29:34 AM
The only thing he's likely remorseful about, is getting caught.

2012-05-16 09:31:15 AM
Stealing Bud is preferable to buying it. Honestly, he was doing the liquor store a favor getting it out of the store.

they actually involve police in such things as taking a box of beer?

2012-05-16 09:33:34 AM
Now if the beer was a case of Sam Adams, then stealing would be a good decision.

Bud Light is disgusting.

Yah im starting a war, I know. But its farking crap. Try Spaten Optimator or Chimay blue or red label. I think those are good tasting beers that get you drunk.

Bud Light is what the driver of the short bus drinks at lunch.

Because, really, what difference does it make?

I drink regular Bud, Victory Hop Devil, Busch, Dogfish Head 60-minute IPA, PBR, Raging biatch IPA, Blue Moon...I don't give a fark. As long as it isn't a light beer...I'm farking drinking it.

Plus...They sell beer is 18-packs?? I know of 4 (Bud lbs.), 6, 12, 24, and 30 packs....but 18??

Don't they have water fountains available there?

(Any darker, more full bodied beer for me, please. Bud Select is actually pretty good)

Light beer? No real use for it. But let's tackle the "Bud" aspect of this. I brew. A lot. One of my neighbors drinks Bud / Coors etc and always said he didn't like "dark craft brewed stuff" or the "fruity wheat stuff." That's fine, he has his preference. So last year I made a batch of traditional Munich Helles Lager for him. Crisp, clear, straw-colored, malt-forward with only very subtle hop flavor. He loved it. Completely changed his mind on the topic of beer. He still buys Bud because he says he can't really justify the difference in cost between that and, say, Weihenstephaner or Spaten. But he asks me to make a batch every now and again.

There are some people who are fine drinking tap water because it tastes fine to them while other people pay for their house to have filters and water cooler delivery. It's just personal taste. I love Corona with a lime crammed into it on a summer day, even if I've got some great Saisons in the fridge.

BEER SNOB THREAD!

Just discovered this stuff at a beer judging class that I took as part of the increasingly awesome Frederick Maryland Beer Week. I've never had a red flanders style beer. Mucho yummy.

Summer is coming so I've been looking for some good IPAs and lighter ales.
One that I've tried and absolutely loved was Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA.
A friend of mine suggested Dale's Pale Ale which changed my entire thinking of canned beer (outside of Guinness pub cans).

Id sooner drink Lakeport before Bud Light. And Lakeport was one nasty beer. Not as bad as Schaffer but....yah not great either.

Life is short, why waste time on crap beer.

A lot of brewers are going the way of cans these days. One of the best IPAs in the country (Heady Topper) only does cans. There was a brew I just had while out in Hawaii called "Big Swell IPA" that was canned (as were all the other beers that brewer put out). The thought is they are easier to recycle, lighter, chill faster, and further protect the beer from becoming light-struck (skunked).

Yeah I've noticed a lot more brews coming out in cans. I'm all for good beer being more portable.

Yeah. The other handy part of cans vs. bottles, especially out in Hawaii, is that bottles and beaches don't mix well.

It's for the drunks that finish off a 12 pack in one sitting and are left vaguely unsatisfied, but are quite ready for the full 24 pack.

/there is no plausible reason to drink Bud except to get drunk cheaper

My in-laws are pretty red-neckky so I've always been glad they drink crap out of cans for throw-ability sake. At least now I won't have to introduce bottles into the mix when I bring good beer to family functions.

i bought some 9$ six packs of stuff in oregon last year, typical north west super hoppy stuff out of the can. so strange. i was expecting it to be more inexpensive.

i dont get the anti can snobbery either. i love good beer and wont drink anything worse in quality than say heineken or sam adams (but prefer german lagers and british ales), but i wont turn my nose up at a can of paulaner just because its GASP not in a bottle.

i like the crushability dont have to walk the glass down to the corner to recylce thing about cans, too.

If you run across Sun King or Oscar Blues, pick it up. Both are sold exclusively in cans and both are excellent.

Cools down faster, stacks, and takes up less space in the fridge. The only thing I have against cans is I can't fill them back up with homebrew.

This. After it came up in this thread I started searching to see if there was a way to use cans on a homebrewing scale. Sadly, I don't think there is.

That's why I stick mostly to 22oz bottles and growlers now. Need to start kegging so I can stop cleaning bottles. Less bottles helps but it still is the most annoying part of the process. Everything is pretty awesome.
