I have no desire to ever go back and play a blizzard game ever again.

I lost several months of my life to the first Diablo in the 90s. I'm not going to fall for that again.

2012-05-16 10:54:17 AM
I just can't think of any reason to go play Diablo III. i'm even starting to lose interest in Star Wars. I just don't have the time to invest in games like that anymore.

They do really seem to be coasting on their past glories. Apparently, they do have some ultra-secret new game franchise in the works, but the way they work it probably won't be out until some time in 2054. In the meantime, here's a new WOW expansion that lets you play a new race of wombat people.

That was fun.

it just doesn't have any 'zip' to it anymore, y'know? I liked star wars, and I've had some fun/did some raids...but i'm playing mostly now just to follow out the story lines on a few classes (sith warrior ending ROCKED THE GOTDAMN HOUSE). once I finish out the story lines i'll probably quit.

My boyfriend bought D3 last night. Mind you, he hasn't been able to play it yet, despite several frustrating hours of trying.

I have to say, I'm not so worried about losing him to a game if it's unplayable.

/I would have considered buying it, but nothing I own will run it.

Blizzard has always had launch issues tho. server crashes, corrupted code, authentication problems, slow server response...you name it, they get hit by it. its not even consistent. one big patch they'll have server crashes. next one, the servers are stable but nobody can authenticate. third time 'round, its sluggish network problems to the point where you can't play.

they should have their problems ironed out by end of june.

The Ulduar release led to half our raid's corpses plummeting through Dalaran for an hour.

Their design for all their newer games seems to hinge on not upsetting the design of the previous one. D2 was very different from D1, WC3 was very different from WC2, and Starcraft was quite different than the WC games. But when it came to SC2 and D3, they didn't really take any significant risks in the game design; they stuck with what worked, prettied it up, and streamlined it.

Try out Path of Exile. It'll be free to play when the open beta started (can join closed beta for $10), it has some unique character creation stuff, and my 4 year old Compaq POS off-the shelf $399 special runs it... as long as you have a vid card other than on-board. And it plays like Diablo 2, unlike how D3 plays (according to what I;'ve heard) like WOW-light.

You Farkers do not realize the BRILLIANCE of Blizzard's plan: This easily multiplies the "Gamer's Experience" by tens or even HUNDREDS of hours....I they could simply connect and play the game, they'd only lose 8~12 hours of their life - this way, they'll be hooked for the next week or two, at least!!!

Meh. That's just, like, your opinion, man.

Sure, there are publishers I never buy ahead of time - like Blizzard - but there are others that I will happily order for the pre-order bonus for me, and some extra development cash for them. I'd amend your very loud point to include, "...and make plans based on playing it day 1."

It was when we went to bed. The installer froze, the game wouldn't open, it wouldn't authenticate, and then it wasn't playing nicely with his computer. I'm pretty sure we were looking at the game screen at one point, but nothing on it was moving.

A friend of my boyfriend's actually planned the last couple of weeks around making his girlfriend feel special because they both know he'll basically be AWOL for the next several months. It was like watching a couple prep for one of them getting blasted into orbit for three months.

I think it's actually because things have turned to sh*t over at Blizzard ever since the retards and beancounters from Activision took over. Activision is doing a "Bain Capitol" stunt on Blizzard, I'm dead certain.

Chances are most if not all of the brilliant minds who created WoW Vanilla in '04 have moved on to other pastures, leaving behind nothing but code-monkeys who keep the servers humming and thinking of new ways to make elves disappear.

The moment they made the Lich King into a beatable boss is the day the franchise croaked.

That's been my plan with SWTOR the whole time. I'm never going to get wrapped up in gear progression end games again. I'm just playing through the class stories and I'm done. The ending I've liked best so far was the Imperial Agent. I'm the goddamned Batman of the Empire.

Grim Dawn Kickstarter

$18 for a digital pre-order, bunch more tiers available for extra goodies. 59 hours left. They are going into stretch goals now. I'm actually really enjoying D3 right now, at least when it's up, but an ARPG made by a ARPG fanatic himself that listens to and engages the community is a far cry from what Blizzard has become.

This here is the reason so much shoddy software is released. Too many people expect to either pay for crap on release or wait for weeks for it to be fixed to the point where it works the way it should have been released as.

I could rant about the amazingly bad launch of D3, but I'm more concerned with how it plays. Two hours in and I felt like I was playing a Korean free to play mmo. The tone just feels off and with 11 years since the last incarnation, I expected something a bit more robust.

/Anyone know how to rotate the camera?

I've said it before, but I just don't understand release date/pre-order hysteria. Pay $60-$70 for a game that will most likely be buggy in a variety of ways? No thanks. If the game is good, it will still be good four months from now, it will be cheaper, and the patches will have been released.

Name another single player game that was unplayable the first day it launched for a vast number of players.

The only game I've ever preordered was Portal 2. The unlock servers were kinda slow for 10 minutes or so, but then I was able to play my game no problem for the rest of the night. Oh, and I had no lag the whole time I played. Just as a single player game should be.

When the expansion pack comes out, so they can get more new users then by getting them to get the Terran missions too.

Sorry, I still haven't gotten over having to wait on their (probably artificially) overworked servers to log in so that I can play my single player game. I know it's been hashed and rehashed over and over, but there it is.

The problem is that when it is working it is wildly entertaining. So many skills and loot plus nice flowing gameplay plus customization via crafting will keep me going for a very long time. I want to hate this game but I cannot. I can hate Blizzard, though.

Also, Torchlight 2 better be significantly better than the first one. Torchlight was incredibly boring and bland. I played it for an hour and decided I'd wasted my money. Torchlight is closer to Diablo 1 than Diablo 2. You better hope Torchlight is far superior than the original.
