Path of Exile.

That is all...

Am I the only one that doesn't seem to have a problem with Blizzard's business model? I read that entire 16000 word spiel by Mike Lowell, and I didn't find anything really wrong with that. It was a great read and there was a lot in there about Blizzard that I didn't know, but I guess I don't really understand what it is people are so upset with?

Don't give me this crap. I've had you stickied since you forgot Poe's Law when you write these things. I demand quality! Scrap it and have a better one on my desk in fifteen minutes.

So, open forum question here.

I have an Xbox 360 but I'm in the market for a new laptop, I haven't bought a new one since 2007.

I want a good all around machine but I want it to do some gaming (Diablo III I believe is the final push).

I wouldn't like to spend more than $1000 but I'm flexible. Any help greatly appreciated.

PinkoLeftist: Sure, except that it won't work. They aren't ubisoft. They're going to have to destroy their reputation rather well before they change their minds due to low sales. Toss in the whole DLC/Real money auction house ideas and its even less likely.

It will be interesting to see if the SC2 expansion is priced at $60 like they've hinted at. I have few friends who play it to warrant getting suckered into that mess again though.

Did Ubi change their tactics? They were another on my no-fly list.

As for SC2, I decided I was done after how short the first installment was, the need to be connected to their servers for a SP game and the nickle-and-dime feel of it. If the next installment is still $60, that's flat-out ridiculous.

Considering there are about 12 million WoW players and surely several million Diablo III players already on the day of launch, plus tens or hundreds of millions of other gamers, that sure is a lot of serial killers to watch out for. Sounds like we're doomed.

We should actually be watching for the religious fanatics -- if you want to stereotype terrorists or serial killers, I'm sure that's a MUCH higher correlation than video game players.

Mr.Tangent: styckx: haha, the Error 37 thread on battle.net is up to 634 pages of epic meltdowns

My favorites are the demands for blizzard to repay vacation days. Then you look at their profile and see they are a very experienced wow player. I guess after seven years they never learned that taking a vacation day to play a stupid game on launch day and major patch days is in their terms..."epic stupidity".

Tomorrow this will all be forgotten and the loudest mouths will be back to slobbering on Blizzards knob. Sadly they make the sane and rational players look bad.

My favorite are the people demanding refunds. It's funny how as soon as something doesn't work soooo many people think the EULA etc etc they just clicked past when purchasing shouldn't apply to them.

Halstread: tlchwi02: Halstread: Im sorry, what? Seriously, what?

yeah that was really poorly worded...

he's wondering why people can't wait 2 days for this game to come out... i'm pointing out that the entire purpose of these games is to be as addicting as possible. They're basically just a giant skinner box. People who's entire enjoyment of these games is tied into getting into the reward schedule that the skinner box provides (which is a nice way of saying the addictive side of the kill/loot trade off) can't even wait an hour past release, let alone 2 days.

you might as well ask a crack addict to wait a few days before he starts using his crack.

Gotcha. Is there any advantage to getting the crack early? Better loot early on?

Well with the auction house there's a monetary push to be the first with the best loot. It doesn't matter if you play today or 3 years from now, you'll still have the same (random) chance of finding the best or worst loot, but the sooner you find it the more valuable it is. Today there might be only one SUPREME ARMOR OF BLOCK EVERYTHING worth $50 (just hypothetical), but 3 years from now there could be 200 on there with so-so bids.

Sorry, I assumed this was going the route of "consoles are cheaper and do more!!1" as the thread had begun to turn that way. For under $1000 you're somewhat limited. I'd start from this.

Also the auction house is one of the main reasons I'm not buying the game right now. I don't like that Blizzard controls the inventory and receives a cut of every auction. There's nothing to stop them from restricting or flooding loot drops to affect the AH.

Plus you'll have the eventual map hacks, bot-runs, LOOT-GRABBER v.1000 etc. to screw with the game/economy.

Except that the RMAH doesn't open for another week or so. I guess you could be trying to get in game gold, but only a fool would pay big gold for an item that they will quickly replace in a later difficulty or even a later Act.

Those a cute too. "I'm paying for a service I'm not getting, outrage!" *reads ToS* "something, something, not guaranteed access, something something".

Even if they were given a refund they would be right back the next day buying the game. It's like an adict trying to return meth to their dealer.

Yeah, that one looks nice. If you're into "spending more money for a lappy that looks like it was designed by an 8th grade Star Trek fan", you could try the Alienware rigs. As I recall, someone bought them recently and now their stuff isn't as good as it used to be. I could look it up, but 1) can't be buggered, and 2) someone said the servers are back up.

Who exactly do you think the auction house is geared toward?

The game is about finding random loot. The auction house is about separating fools from their money for digital items.

Sun Worshiping Dog Launcher: Cymbal: Played the D3 and GW2 betas. Wasn't impressed with either. Can't they just remake D2 and GW with better graphics?

What was the problem(s) with GW2? I've been optimistic about that one after everything I've read. I had pinned my hopes on SWTOR, but apparently BioWare didn't get the memo that you have to do more then just story in your MMO. That game did one thing well and nothing else, so I'm back looking for something to play. I'm certainly not going back to WoW, so that left GW2 as my hope for this summer.

My best friend from college has been playing Tera since he built his new box. He seems to like it alot.

the people i know who got up at some ungodly hour mostly cited the "i've been waiting for X years since diablo 2." Which seems to reinforce the whole addiction thing... they want to sink back into the feelings of pleasure they get from going on the click/reward cycle.

none of them seemed particularly interested in a new story or the changed gameplay. all the comments were about how they wanted to start leveling and getting gear.

I noted with a certain amount of humor that the Real Money AH in the Asia region isn't functional yet. I wonder how long they'll hold off opening it to vex the gold farmers?

Can't say I've ever had my Xbox360 say "Error you can't login to this game servers too busy" just to play single player. How's that PC working out for you guys now?

You must not have been playing Battlefield 3 single player over the weekend. Everytime I got to a checkpoint it'd crash to the menu and let me know EA servers were down at that moment. Single player. On the 360. Which I only tried out because they farked up the multiplayer servers.

I got online with BF3 a couple weeks ago and had no idea they completely overhauled the servers. Now I'm randomly thrust into a game with 300+ spawn tickets on each team - which can be nice sometimes or a pain in the ass at other times.

To the people wondering about how long the story is/was: My brother and I played together through act 1 and it took us between 4-5 hours. Given there are four acts let's round to 25 hours total assuming some of them are longer than the first. Also of note we weren't speeding through it, nor we were exploring every single tiny area on the map. All in all a pretty average play through. Great game so far, the cinematics are realllllly cool looking.
