If I were the last man on Earth and it was up to me to repopulate it, I would have no problem taking one for the team with Sofia Vergara. She makes gay men question their sexuality.

Combined with a form of fusion the machines will have all the energy they need

As a reactor of that type, we must post pictures here as evidence to catalogue for the safety of mankind! We must have images of her as evidence of her energy type, and to review for safety concerns.

And here is where Fark falls short...

I must be honest, I came to this thread after reading only the headline, anticipating the beginning of something good and was not disappointed. SmackLT thank you.

But then I took the time to read the article, and really wanted to hear some reasoned discussion of the principles involved, perhaps some links to other related literature, diagrams, etc. I found myself really wanting to see one of the thermal images captured of their device in the jelly.

But I'm at Fark.

So I'll settle for beautiful women

Matrix was dumb. I would take more energy to keep someone alive than they would produce. They could of come up with many reasons that could of made sense but they were lazy.

The original idea was that they were using our brains as a serial processor but the studio suits thought that was too complicated.

In Fred Saberhagen's Berserker books the machines keep some people alive to do maintenance. I agree that the Matrix blew it.

You totally missed the point. They used humans to convert useless forms of energy into useful forms. They weren't implying that it broke the conservation of energy law.

Its the same way humans used to have Pigs perform "alchemy," turning garbage back into delicious bacon!

Given sufficient time and planning and resources, you could theoretically make keeping them alive a self sustaining process.

To keep them alive all you need is food/water/oxygen. Very easy things to automate the collection of.

Test tube meat and plant life are theoretically renewable, condensation, and, ooooh, air, that's the hard one...

The grander the scale, the less energy spent per body. One simple mechanism could supply 2 people, that's fairly simple right? If streamlined enough, it's very possible to have one simple mechanism supply more than is required, making for excess energy.

Like windmills. Doesn't make sense to use them everywhere, and they don't supply enough power to run everything, but in some places it's able to be done to maintain an area, and have excess to be sold back to the grid.

Now, you couldn't use them for all the power in the world, but it's a relatively safe and maintenance free means to get a little passive power to a region.

SmellsLikePoo: But then I took the time to read the article

I read the article first, and really, am not all that big on SV(wouldn't kick her out of bed, but meh, hotness on the internet is cheaper than air), found the title to be wholly misleading, but the article was good. I like the concept of thermal computing, and using the passive heat off of something to produce some power.

Don't know if it'll get anywhere, but it's interesting

They didn't survive the initial fighting/nuking?

The robots presumably absorbed human knowledge/studies, what's studied more than human physiology/psychology?

Humans mental capacity for tricking itself is pretty well known(compatibility with the virtual world). You may see an enraged animal, or one with rabies, but they don't really ever go crazy. Animals have not overcome so many survival instincts as humans have. They twitch and bolt at the slightest sound, they panic uncontrollably at surprise.

All in all, humans are an ideal candidate for that VR world, and even that wasn't perfect from the start.
/of course you get into the magic side of the story from that point on I suppose

There's a saying that goes something like:
No matter how hot she is, know that some guy is tired of her shiat.

Sure, hot, but crazy? Maybe. Annoying? Maybe

Only assuredly worth it in the short term for any hot woman.

Isn't that what these threads are in part? Support groups for guys that know they'll never get the chance?

Yeah I used to live in Colorado and we had some animals. We didnt have much money and I remember getting scolded for putting food trash into the regular trash bin. Before all this recycling stuff was popular we were already sorting the garbage.

I always thought it was neat that our trash got turned into eggs and bacon :D

my theory is morpheus was wrong about the battery thing and the matrix wasn't evil. themachines were trying as best they could to live in peace with humanity and realuzed there wasn't a way to do it normally since humanity had such disdain for them and were so warlike
