Odds on Romney somehow fumbling or otherwise farking up his response to this only to reload an otherwise mostly empty gun for Obama?

Babs: Georgie, you have to make that endorsement at some point.

My attendance has been spotty due to lack of internet and jerbs. Got some good prospects, though...

Considering that Romney has been a Bush apologist for the last 12 years, there is a complete lack of surprise.

While largely unspoken, both sides acknowledge that Republicans would be best served by not reminding voters of the Bush legacy of gaping budget deficits, two wars and record low approval ratings.

It's pretty hard to forget about the Bush legacy, whether you'd like to or not

what_now: This can't possibly be good for Romney.

at this point NOTHING is working out for Romney. I wandered by the break room earlier this shift to grab a cup of coffee and ran across CNN talking heads having a meltdown over those Bain Capital ads the Obama folks put out over the weekend. Romney's people are FURIOUS about 'em, as are several wall street insiders and investment bankers.

And we're not even close to starting the election year fun yet.

Obama: "Thanks, Dubya!"

there is a stunning lack of enthusiasm for Romney. I thought McCain had problems firing up the troops...Romney can't even muster THAT level of emotional fire from his people.

Weaver95: Romney's people are FURIOUS about 'em, as are several wall street insiders and investment bankers.

Why? Because they point out what kind of a "job creator" Mitt Romney actually was?

I don't think Mitt did anything WRONG by destroying the lives of thousands of Americans, it was his job at the time, and it was totally legal.

But I think 1) it shouldn't be legal and 2) someone who unrepentantly engaged in those activities shouldn't be in government.

Looks like it's time for Obama to acknowledge the endorsement and open up the national conversation to a discussion of W's super awesome achievements during his eight years (minus the 977 days of vacation? Nah, what the hell, let's include 'em!) at the helm.

No, no, it's poor form to blame Bush for the state of the economy when Obama took office. "Buck stops here" and all that. Unless you're blaming Jimmy Carter.

Actually its debatable if it IS legal. Breaking up a company into two companies, one with assets, the other with obligations in order to declare bankruptcy on the obligations company is directly illegal in EU and legally gray in the US (some states have specific laws against it). It may become illegal soon.

The GOP hates having to defend itself or it's actions. Time spent trying tp put out fires is time not spent spouting propaganda to deify their candidates.

They also don't want a discussion of vulture capitalists, for fear that it could drive calls for more regulation of them.

y'know, now that you mention it...i'm not really sure why the talking heads were miffed at Obama for running those ads. granted, there's a bit of exaggeration to 'em...but certainly no more than in any OTHER political ad this season. And yes, Romney wasn't doing anything illegal or even unique. as you say, quite a lot of other investment firms were doing the exact same thing Romney and Bain capital were doing at that time.

If I had to guess, I think what's got Romney's people mad as hell about this is that the GOP knows that what Bain capital did was bad business. they know Bain capital and other firms destroyed jobs, gutted companies and hurt local communities...and the LAST thing they want is for voters to really understand who's been punching them in the dick bags for the past 20 years or so. the narrative is 'its all Obama's fault'....a discussion on Bain capital and it's business practices does not fit that narrative, and lets face it - they can't get away from what Romney did to make a buck. So yeah...they're angry. Not because the ads are wrong (because they actually ARE telling the truth) but because the truth is very damaging to Romney's campaign goals this year.

But really...do you think that's a doable thing? I mean, if you've been alive since 2006, and you make less than 7 figures, and you STILL think the GOP is on your side...aren't you just kinda too stupid to function?

I'm not entirely sure, but didn't that tactic used to be illegal in the US as well? ah well. if I go looking for an answer to that question, it'll just piss me the hell off.

Romney's got a lot of issues this year...his people seem to be going through the motions, Romney himself as all the charm of a dead racoon that's been rotting on the side of a highway on a hot and humid august afternoon and Obama's slamming him on his career with Bain capital.

You can tell how much Republicans loved Bush by how fast Fark Cons started calling themselves Independents and created new user names.

Yeah...I was back home by the time that ended, and it was in extras when I was in New Hampshire. That was the one where they ran out of pitchers and let an outfielder pitch ,right?

Crazy game.

not necessarily. see, inside the GOP echo chamber nobody stops to really listen. they just shout the same slogans over and over again. problem is...the rank and file are starting to really feel the economic pinch. I corrupted a few Republican coworkers this week by simply reminding them that Romney LURVES to outsource jobs to china and india. Obama is on record as wanting to keep US jobs in the US. that right there turn two die hard tea baggers into moderate Obama voters. With rumors of layoffs floating around every damn day...nobody wants to vote for a candidate that's in favor of corporate outsourcing.

so on a larger scale, all Obama has to do is hammer home the meme that Romney loves outsourcing and a lot of tea baggers will quietly vote for Obama. they just wont' SAY they voted for Obama.

Leave it to HuffPo to try to make hay out of a former Republican president being badgered into saying he supports the current Republican presidential candidate.

It's not like Bush is going to be on the campaign trail with Romney. Bush is poison for Republicans. Time will likely change that, as it did for Clinton.
