thornhill: Make fun all you want of the French, but they enjoy a much better quality of life.

If Americans actually traveled abroad, and specifically spent time in France, they'd be pretty shocked just how good they have it over there.

As a French citizen I can say with some authority that you are full of crap.

thornhill: Rent is a function of supply and demand restrictive building codes that benefit the landlords who've already built (just like in San Fran). It is what it is.

Provided you aren't an immigrant...

And the United States treats immigrants any better?

Much. We also accept more new immigrants each year than the rest of the world combined. And those are just the legal ones.

Having been to Europe more than once I disagree. High unemployment has always been a problem in France particularly among the 18-26 year old age group. One of the reasons for early retirement ages and 35 hour work weeks was the hope it would create and open up more jobs-Failed.

French Arabs might also disagree with you. Stay out fo the Arab ghettos.

As France's demographics have changed they have fewer tax payers supporting more people on government so you get austerity measures.

France is also a dirty country which is very evidence when you cross into it from Germany. If I had to live in Europe (shudder) and was given a choice I would probably pick a Nordic/Baltic country as France pretty much sucks donkey balls.
