In Seattle he'd still have his job, and the city would be forking out another $10 million to defend against lawsuits he caused.

His words hurt my feelings. He deserves to be demoted.

What's factually incorrect about his statement, anyway?

1. Poor parenting does lead to crime. This is undisputed. Especially single mother households.
2. Often failures in a community are blamed on "racism" when the sources of the failure can be found within (success at school is labeled as "acting white", a culture of violence is worshiped, etc.)
3. Trayvon was portrayed as an innocent 8 year old.
4. The style of dress in certain cultures is meant to illicit a certain response. It is intended to be intimidating. Why is it shocking and beyond the pale when someone is intimidated by it?

These guys and cops seems to be cut from the same cloth anymore. What arm is his tribal tattoo on? How many days a week does he spend in a gym blasting his (insertmuscleshere)? They want young Brown-Shirts who will toe the line and protect the interests of a police state, not care for the citizens they are paid by, and is there to protect. By his picture this guy seems to look like every other younger fireman/cop caught up in some stupid shiat lately that makes news.

Here's the question, folks (which we have to divine, since news reporting is fourth grad quality these days): Did he post this on his personal page as a private citizen or on a public page or as a member of the Miami-Dade Fire Department? There's a big difference. If it is the former, he has a prima facie civil rights suit, which he will most definitely win. If the latter is the case, he should feel grateful he still has a job.

I don't have a problem with what he said, but just how he said it. But, of course, he is misrepresenting Martin. He and his family aren't a bunch of hood thugs. They are middle class.

I'll take a swing at it...

The 1st amendment may allow you to say whatever you want, but it doesn't mean you won't be held accountable for it. This is especially true when you 1) implicate others as agreeing with you without their consent, and 2) when you say it in public for everyone to see.

Also, correct me if i'm wrong, but civil servants and employees of the government have substantially limited 1st amendment rights simply because it can be so hard to separate their opinion from the opinion of the government they represent.

It also doesn't give you the freedom to speak for other people. When he said "my co-workers" and "we" he was including people who did not want to be included in his dumbass post.

This is like the people I see on USAToday that post their inane opinions with their facebook page attached. It took me forever to understand why people do this, but I have a few ideas.

Everyone knows that guy at work who wants everyone to hear his political opinions (usually a guy in his early 50s for some reason), but nobody ever disagrees because most people have better things to do than argue with a loudmouth. What happens is that the loudmouth thinks that the lack of disagreement is tacit agreement. In this case it was compounded by the loudmouth being the Captain - the boss. Nobody wants to disagree with the boss, so the boss thinks everyone agrees with him.

That's why he doesn't stop to think that the dumb shiat he posts on line will come back to haunt him. He thinks everyone will agree. They've never disagreed before.

I doubt he's gestapo or ss youth, probably shaves his head because he's going bald and wants to look good for the ladies. He probably also became a fireman to impress the ladies.

Having lived in the ghetto, I think he and the teacher from Gary who posted on this thread earlier are both remembering the "don't give a fark" poor more than the "trying hard to get the fark out of here" poor.

When you work for the government you typically sign some really vague agreement to not bring negative publicity to, or say anything disparaging about, your workplace etc. etc.

It's a catch-all that removes any right you may have to talk about your workplace unless you are saying "THIS IS THE BEST PLACE EVER - MY BOSS COULD NOT BE ANY MORE AMAZING."

Lets try breaking this down. From TFA:
"I and my coworkers could rewrite the book
This is his first mistake. He is implying that he is representing the political/social opinion of a group of government employees. His status within the union (i believe it said he was union president) only entitles him to represent their interests in employment issues.

on whether our urban youths are victims of racist profiling
There he has potentially identified a specific racial demographic as the source of his claims, rather than a geographical or economical demographic that would not be inclusive to a single race.

or products of their failed, (expletive), ignorant, pathetic, welfare dependent excuses for parents,
Any semblance of attempt at scholarly rhetoric has been lost. IT is purposely inflammatory, targeting a specific race, while claiming to represent a group of government employees.

but like Mrs. Corey, we speak only the truth. They're just misunderstood little church going angels
Now hes just being a dick.

and the ghetto hoodie look doesn't have anything to do with why people wonder if they're about to get jacked by a thug,"
I think I might be willing to agree with this for the simple reason that as a culture, we find most things that cover the head/face area or would otherwise help to conceal the identity of a person, to be intimidating. That is not to say that their are not perfectly good reasons for concealing the head and face, but when you see someone, anyone, approaching you at night in a poorly lit area with their identity concealed, there is a bit if a flight response that sets in.

OR have i just lived in Chicago too long?

/only been mugged by white people.

Here's some evidence to back up my point. Even active duty soldiers aren't safe from these roving packs of hoodlums. And that was hardly an isolated incident - shiat like that happens all the time in every state. But yeah, this is all obviously caused by white racism.
