It's all fun and games 'till someone takes an Error 37 to the knee.

2012-05-15 04:22:18 AM
Hey Blizzard! 37? Try not to get any more errors on the way across the parking lot!

hey... you .. come back here!

I hate to be all Told-Ya-So about this, but, I'm glad I'm not buying this till it goes on sale. By then, all the labrat players will have Beta Tested all the bugs out of the game for me.

yo, that's great and Imma let you finish but Diablo 2 is the best Diablo clone OF ALL TIME!!!!

The error 37 problems aren't even happening anymore thankfully. Gotta say Diablo 3 is probably the best game of the past decade. Just wish they didn't release it at 3 am. Too tired to keep playing.

2012-05-15 08:06:42 AM
And to think some of us still play the old original Quake ...

A Blizzard game isn't working? Wouldn't it be easier to put up a thread every couple of months when all of Blizzard's stuff is actually working?

I am error

This is why I don't play stuff on launch day.
Or jump on to a new OS until the worst security holes are plugged.
Or buy a spankin new car. I wait for a few weeks and see if there's a recall because the seat heater catches fire or whatever.

Lemmiiiiiings.

Error 37? Isn't that the error where you are trying to play using the Diablo 3 beta client?

0 Errors and no bugs for me so far.

To be fair, those folks getting in on day 1 and grinding the heck out of their characters are going to be able to score some sweet change selling their early loot to latecomers with too much money.

So jealous that my Husband has today and tomorrow off to play this, but I am stuck at work ugghh

I want to want Diablo 3, but I just can't.

It is entertaining watching the twitter rage.

I love that people bought a game that you have to log in to play the single player portion. They spend 99% of their time biatching about all the game developers putting in stupid DRM and online requirements and then everyone of them pre-ordered this game as soon as they could. Unwilling to put their money where their mouth is and skip a game that forces you online to play single player.

As long as people keep buying games with DRM or constant online requirements for SP it will not stop. They will keep crying about it and developers will spit out shiat about piracy but the real problem is that people keep buying games with the DRM they biathced about the same day they bought the game.

I quit buying games with DRM. Even something as easy as Steam DRM is still too much. There should be nothing between buying a game, installing it and then playing the single player portion of the game.

It will never change because the kids that have to play game X on launch day with their pre-order extras from Best Buy or Gamestop. So there will be fewer and fewer games without DRM that I will buy.

If they need to make money by playing video games an selling in game loot to support their video gaming, they need to address some things in their life. If they are going to play and the loot they sell doesn't offset their income, I have to ask: Why are they doing it? Truth is, they'll never be able to compete with the Chinese Gold Farmers, Blizzard got tired of the CGF running away with the money that rightfully belongs to Blizzard, and since they couldn't beat them, they joined them. They quite literally made it acceptable for CGF to do their thing.

But, hey, if it makes them feel better about neglecting their families, more power to them. At least they made 75 cents on the AH on opening day!

Yeah, initially 30 minutes of error 37, but my wife was still downloading/installing the digital download so by the time she got it up and running, the error went away and we started out. Such an amazing game so far, and when I am far more alert and awake tomorrow, i think it'll be even crazier.

Wait is finally over.

Not that I inherently have anything against RMT since I don't really see much functional difference between buying a digital toy in a box and then buying some digital accessories for that toy online, but I have to wonder about the people who turn video games into mining operations and the people who pay extra money to not have to play the game they already bought.

/ if I wanted to bore myself to tears running a digital mining operation and doing accounting spreadsheets I'd go back to playing Eve....

Took a couple of hours but got in.. its very much fun.. Its a well executed super-simplistic hack and slash in a light and cartoony style. Cannot see 'best game evah', as I like dark, complex and real which this is anything but, but definitely fun.

Gonna have to disagree.

Played D3 in beta and GW2 in beta and GW2 destroys it. No comparison.

I wouldn't exactly classify one as a clone of the other. For one, I didn't wreck any mice playing Dungeon Siege.

One of my friends has the market cornered on the Dark Iron server AH. Go look, and you'll see Bankette has most the sales up on that server. He has maximum gold you can get in the game (1.2 Million), and gives money away to random people so he can clean out his inbox to put up more sales. He has the app on his Android and spreadsheets at home, etc. He's insane, but that what the game is to him anymore.

He goes on raids and buys loots from people, he'll send them whispers (I'll pay you 90K for loot rights to that item...) All his characters have the best items for their classes, and he has 9 level 85's at this point across 2 servers. He had to bring one character to another server with 600K gold just to clean out his bank at one point, so he started up an AH take over on that server too. I'm not sure how well he is doing there, but he OWNS the DI AH.

Get Titan Quest, it's the best Diablo Emulator I've ever played without any of the DRM nonsense. It's seriously a straight clone of D2 and it rocks!!

You could pare that sentence down to:

He Who Shall Not Be Named: I quit buying games

I mean damn, if something as minor as Steam's DRM stops you from buying a game, what can you even play? A few indie games and The Witcher 2?

Oh wait, you said "buy", not "play": you still play games, you just pirate them. How unspeakably noble of you to take such a principled stand.

2012-05-15 08:40:19 AM
Most of the fanboys have bought in but I'm no fan of there being no difference between one lvl 60 barb and another lvl 60 barb (outside equipment). Where's the replay value if I'm going to end up with a character that has the same stats and skills if I opt to start the game over? This and the inevitable can't play SP because the internet is down/blizzard's servers are down and I'm having a hard time justifying a $60 price tag.

Hopefully they'll have an offline patch in a year or so... when they think they've beat all the pirates or when the pirates beat their system. Offline patch also = mods. A mod could add choices back into the realm of an action RPG. Imagine that.

I grabbed Avernum 4, 5, and 6, and Warlock with the expansion this morning on Steam for $32. 4 games, and the expansions for half the price of D3, and I'll get down with my retro gaming for a lot longer than I'll play D3. Once the 'New Car Smell', many of these people will be changing their tune, except in this day and age, kids are too prideful to admit they made a bad investment, so they'll just dodge the subject.

D3 is going to be like SWTOR redux: Rabid Fanbois will defend it's obvious flaws with cries of it's still new and that the detractors 'just don't get it', nevermind many will not have been born when the first game was released, then there will be those that will get attacked for looking at the game objectively and defining the mistakes and errors realistically, then there are people like myself: Straight up detractors, those that knew better than to spend the money and still bag on it without owning it.

I still know I made the right choice. SWTOR is the last game I will buy at full price. I'm also done with MMO's, SWTOR burned that last hunk of coal out of my chest for the genre. As seen by my recent titles, I'm going back to retro gaming, where games meant something, were not forgiving of mistakes the player makes and take a loooong time to complete.

I guarantee someone will kill Diablo (or whoever the big baddie is) today. Just like when WoW has a new expansion with a new class or race, there's a max level THAT DAY or very soon after. DK's happened that day, and I think Troll Shamen took 2 days to max level. Way to blow through $60 in 14 hours guys!! (and that's a generous estimate, I honestly put it down to about 8-10 hours of hardcore game time).

I didn't. There's no way I'd play a single player game that requires you to be connected to the internet. God forbid my connection should go out for an afternoon.
The game wasn't designed to be single player anyway. It's designed for people who care more about buying and selling junk to each other and using math to figure out the best ways to level up and who have no interest in an immersive experience.

I'm still playing Skyrim, and I'll stick with it for awhile.

HST's Dead Carcass: He goes on raids and buys loots from people, he'll send them whispers (I'll pay you 90K for loot rights to that item...) See, that right there is what I'm talking about. I don't know what any of that means. When I play a Diablo game, it's because I want to fight demons and save the world. All that stuff is just nonsense and it gets in the way.

2012-05-15 08:47:15 AM
Mostly get 3006, here (when it allegedly had already connected and was loading the hero list), but that seems to have passed.

Now, I just have to occasionally deal with lag. In single player. God DAMMIT, Blizzard.
