This is a movie that should sell itself. If they've already started the advertising blitz for a movie that doesn't release until August, that makes me really wonder just how bad it is.

Jessica Biel is in it. It's going to be really bad.

I'm somewhat interested. Looks like it'll be a significantly different take on the same source material, rather than an attempt recreate the cheesy magic that was Total Recall (1990). But, of course, they use the same title to create buzz, and multiple people have probably already used the term "reboot".
Anyway, depending on what else is out, what I hear from other people who've seen it, etc, I might go catch it in the theater.

Yeah, but she'll still be amazingly hot.

They should put in some robocop like advertisements in it. I'd rather they cheese on this a bit, rather than make it all 'drama' and 'action'. Let's have some fun out there, people! He's on vacation!

/or is he?

I'm guessing there isn't going to be any three breasted hookers, no mutant midgets, no Michael Ironside and no R-rated violence. So I'll stick with the 1990 version.

Oh. There's no denying that.

But I think I'll wait until it shows up on HBO or something so I can pause it during the Biel ass closeups.

Man, those "bullet holes" in the last picture look like they were made by a 14 year old CG hobbyist.

Anyone else read the short story it was based on? It has little in common with the movie(s), but it's pretty entertaining in its own right.

mind you, Biel isn't really an indicator of quality, but Beckinsale's movie are really farking bad.

Biel and Beckinsale? It doesn't have a chance, except to make my pants tight.

I love the comment at the bottom of the article:

A remake just to force in the feminist hate politics. Now they add a Girl! Will they remake all the Arnold movies just to force in more feminist hate politics?

Ken has some serious issues.

They have a pretty mean catfight in the movie apparently. That's enough for at least a rental, in my book.

It's Philip K Dick, you're damn right it's entertaining. The problem with making PKD stories into movies is they're so easily twisted into shallow action crap when you extract some key element from the story ("false" memories, precogs, androids, what it means to be human, etc.) but miss the deeper parts of the writing. If ever the statement "the book is better than the movie" holds true, it's for movies based on PKD short stories.

I always thought re-makes and re-boots were to take a movie that was flawed or failed at something and improve upon it. TR is a solid movie, and it was filmed in the special part of time when bloody action movies were King, and it delivers.

I don't even know if it's a matter of better/worse. Other than some basic concept, the movies tend to be completely different stories altogether. I read Minority Report after seeing the film and was surprised how much had been changed for an "adaptation".

I've never understood this thought (Total Recall vs. We Can Remember...). 99% of the short story is pretty much covered in the first 20 minutes of Total Recall. if anything, Total Recall basically throws out the last couple paragraphs of "We Can Remember.. " and extends the story beyond the basic premise.

Gilligann: Doesn't this remake not take place on Mars?

Nope. No Mars no Mike Ironsides (even in a cameo) and I think that whole character is gone. The 90's version always kept the question of is he or isn't he crazy on the edge because whatever physical badassery Ahnold did to escape or defeat the badguys early on was somewhat believable (within the movie's own premise) because Quaid/Hauser was a still a pretty big dude. For scrawny little Collin Farrel to kick the crap out of an entire SWAT team pretty much forces the question in only one direction.

I think Beckensdale is "Melana" the Martian hooker and Beil is the fake wife/Sharron Stone's character instead of a rule 63 of Ironsides' character

I like Colin Farell as an actor (he is good in the Fright Night remake) but now I find out Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel are in the movie also? Count me in. At least I hope the special effects are way better than the last one.

Ok, you can keep her when she's dressed like that, I get her when she's starting to take them off. And when she's finished taking them off. And for a good 5 seconds after that.

You can have her back then. Well, unless she wants to cuddle.

The story included in Total Recall is only a vague semblance. Heck, the big plot twist in the story is totally absent from the book.

I enjoy both, but they're almost apples and oranges.

People are complaining about Beil and Beckensdale, but not Farrell? The guy is more wooden than Keanu and a less likely action star to boot
