A Calgary father and web specialist is going public to warn other parents about a popular website

Rickard said he stumbled across the website called Stickam purely by chance, while researching how to do high-quality video streaming for business purposes.

"This was all discovered in two hours.... As a father, it scares the hell out of me."

Could he have made any less believable?

The article misses the vital detail of when is wife walked in on him.

"Oh no, honey! I was doing research! Yes, Britney there is doing deplor..., I mean, that girl whoever she is, is doing deplorable acts..." I'll call the media right away and report this, stick thingie"

What we have here is a web specialist who was apparently unaware of stickam and it took him 2 HOURS to find out there was porn on it. Someone is most definitely lying about something. As a father it scares him, but as a pervert...

It's a legit site with a legit purpose and they have rules. It isn't stikcam's fault your daughter is horny and you did a terrible job with parenting.

Clearly both the viewers and the corporations don't know how ad servers work... as I understand it, unless the advertising is using keywords to target a page (like an article about underwear showing ads for Hanes or whatever), or else targeting users based on their tracked interests, they're pretty much randomly posting ads, especially when the company hosting them is more of a budget operation. I'm sure Tim Hortons had no intention of advertising on a site like that when they signed the contract.

Home Depot though, well...

It's not a major problem for the security clearance so long as you fess up to it. They only care about things that can be used to blackmail you.

1. I wonder how many times this guy jacked off before his sense if disgust set in.

2. Being aroused sexually by teenage girls is not "sick". However, acting on said arousal is bad for society and is, rightly, prohibited. Let's not pretend though, please.

I agree completely. I have a 6 yr old daughter and 4 yr old son and I'm terrified. I try and think about what I would say to them. I can't be the type of person to say don't do that, because as well all know that shiat doesn't work. I'm thinking about going with something like There are 3 guarantees in life. Death, taxes, and any nakkid pics/sex videos will show up online. So, if you don't want someone in the family or future bosses seeing it don't do it.'
My talk on drugs/booze I think will work too. Tell 'em to watch what their friends do, how they act when stoned/drunk then ask themselves if they want to be in the same situation, or have degree of lack of self control. (Which can also lead to the talk on point a)

Either way, 4-6 years from now(Gods please later then sooner) life is going to get difficult. Just need to keep 'em focused on the potential they have I guess.

yes, yes...but it can be used to embarrass the shiat out of you in the future. Or possibly cause a big problem for mommy and daddy today.

Oh yeah, also: It's an absolute universal law that teenage girl + camera = naked pictures. It is literally only a matter of time. If you think otherwise, you are wrong and I've probably already seen naked photos of your daughter.

Sorry, Nudity=Porn now. Seems that the new metric is that "someone, somewhere could be getting off to this so we better shut it down". Young children are extremely sexual in nature (unless you want to teach them sex ed, then they're too innocent) and anything that can be remotely considered sexual involving kids, is sexual and there is a crime being comitted.

I am aware that significant cognitive dissonance is required to think that way.

Endive Wombat: In all seriousness, this is one small part of parenting that scares the shiat out of me - attempting to adequately convey to my kids the permanence of ____________

I'll do you one further and edit. This is what scares the shiat out of me. Being unable to adequately convey the permanence of anything. Not just posting shiat to the internet but also of getting pregnant, or getting an STD, doing something that stays on his permanent record, or getting some permanent injury or whatnot. Anything that is not permanent I'll get over but something that he does as a teenager that will stay with him forever, that's the scary part.

To combine the two, if your 17 year old kid sexts a 16 year old girl, not only might there be naked pictures of him on the internet forever, he might have to register as a sex offender. All for making a stupid mistake.

Who would think that a form of unsupervised video chat could be abused by kids or anyone else who wasn't mentioned in the article? The price of freedom of expression is that freedom of expression results. The sad thing about something like this is police are likely to bust anyone who inadvertently viewed the 14 yr girl instead of telling her "put your clothes on!" or some such.

It also involves smart, active parenting. Knowing who your kids friends are, who their parents are...Placement of the family computer in the house, not buying a webcam/disabling said camera (if it is built in)...teaching your daughters that there is no boy worth impressing that requires you to get naked on a webcam for him and his friends. Self esteem/self worth, etc.

He pointed out, several other live chat sites also have sexually explicit interaction between teens, singling out Tinychat in particular. On that site, CBC News saw some of that type of content, however, Tinychat didn't appear to have the same level of corporate advertising.

So, that's what makes it wrong, the advertising? Seriously, the whole article reads like a condemnation of the advertisers, rather than the site or the people on it... "Sure, naked teens are fine, but not when there's a doughnut ad on screen!"

I have a question for the fathers: If you were on stickam, and you found your daughter on there, doing things most porn stars won't do, would you stop what you're doing, or do you finish? You're picturing it right now, aren't you? Picturing your sweet, innocent daughter being a bad, bad girl. Stop that! Stop picturing your daughter doing those things! Stop it now!
