Most procedures should require mandatory psych evals. If you want to fix your beak, fine. But if you're in the surgeon's office more than your dentist's office, yeah. Get a note from a shrink.

I was recently went out for drinks and the maitre d' looked exactly like that "Living Ken Doll" guy that had the chest implants and everything. But appartently that guy works as a stylist or something so I'm left with thinking, Jesus there are at least two of these things walking the planet?

I feel really bad for people like this. They not only have desperately low self esteem, but they try to fill the hole by trying to make themselves look better. Even if the surgery worked out well, it wouldn't help them. Valuing yourself comes from within, not from what you look like.

It's like watching a bug in a bucket of water, just swimming around and around in circles. It know it's in trouble, and it's trying to make things better, but it doesn't know how. Ultimately its efforts are worse than futile. They're exhausting and destructive.

I'd offer to end things out of compassion by squashing this woman with the heel of my shoe, but her face already looks like someone tried.

I'm wondering what her "before" pictures look like. They have the "immediately after" pics, and the "post-correction" pics, but nothing of what she looked like before this most recent attempt to change herself.

I honestly think she looks fine in the post-correction pictures, but damned scary in that bar pic earlier in the thread.

Er, what before pics? All I see is the "after reconstructive surgery" ones, which are obviously just another sort of plastic surgery and bound to look better. Would gladly check out before pics to see how hideous she must have been before....

If you go in for something non-surgical like Restylane, no psych eval is required. The lady in the article had her lips "plumped" with Restylane and their ilk an untold number of times. She probably never needed, or was required to get, a psych eval once.

Working a register around twenty years ago, I saw an odd case of plastic surgery. Something had been done to her cheeks & mouth that made her resemble a fish. But even if the surgery had been flawless, there was a key giveaway: she was dressed as a young woman would have dressed in, by my reckoning, the early '60s. Like a Freudian slip from the conscious mind.
