"Love the sinner, hate the sin" is an idiom that gets taken and used in alot of ways. The school probably thinks it already is being lenient because they haven't kicked the kids out of school.

Letting them go to the dance would be like celebrating the sin instead of just "understanding" it.

I thought the sin was the homosexual sex itself, as in the act. But homosexual love and relationships are fine. Its just the sodomy (of any sort) god has a problem with. So completely abstinent gays havent committed any sins. At least that was my understanding of the whole retarded "hate the sin, love the sinner" thing.

Despite being Catholic, I think any sort of anti-gay discrimination is wrong.

However, I'd be reasonably OK with this if they were consistent.

But I'm guessing a lot of the male/female couples there have had or were going to have that night...some form of premarital sex (whether anal, oral, manual, or genital), and I imagine most of the people there have masturbated. All of this is against Church teachings. Yet, they're allowed entry. The gay couple is not.

What if it were a celibate gay couple? That should be allowed within the Church.

I don't understand how they can even make that call. I went to several dances at catholic school with my female friends. Hell for prom my boyfriend already had a date so I went with gal pals and then hooked up with him after we got there. Did the school ban them on the rumor they were gay or something? Wtf?

I don't think they are saying that the school couldn't do it, just that it was entirely hypocritical and inconsistent with greater Christian values. So yes, the school was legally in the right to do so, but the Catholic church has completely lost sight of anything resembling Christian values.

I will have you know that Our Lady of the Elms in Chickopee MA had a "kick out time" of either 1AM or 11PM (I forget which, and I think it varied whether it was a Friday or not) for guys visiting their GFs in the all-female dorms.

It did not curtail the amount of sex in the dorms one iota.

It also didn't stop the same-sex couples within the dorm from shacking up either.

And this was 16 years ago. Long before this enlightened time.
