StreetlightInTheGhetto: Nrokreffefp: What, apart from the name? If you pay to send your kids to a school with a church in the name you deserve what you get. I would imagine that in that area the people are primarily Christian, and many are paying for specifically this sort of discrimination.

You're an idiot. My best friend in high school went to Catholic school for K-8 after the public school insisted she be placed in the mentally slow class and her mom said "aw hell no". American Indian friend in college did Catholic K-12 because the public schools in his area sucked and Catholic was the cheapest/best private alternative. Boston College, Georgetown, Notre Dame, etc. are Catholic. Jesuits had a strong teaching tradition that attracted even non-Catholics. Etc.

THAT aside, this

"I think that it is unfair that Hope and Tiffany were not allowed to attend prom together," Napier said. "I can understand why, but I don't agree with it."

"Universal love and acceptance," she said, is a greater Catholic tradition than its stance on same-sex relationships.>

was remarkably mature for a high school student.

I'm an idiot, but you are railing against the fact that private schools don't have to acquiesce to your beliefs instead of their own? I don't care why people chose religious schools for their children, the simple fact is that the reasoning behind their financial decision should have no bearing on the actions or policies of a private school. Don't like it? Move. Drive farther. Send them to boarding school. Run for school board. Don't infringe on the lunatic religious beliefs of a private organization (even if I personally dislike their policies and beliefs greatly). But hey, you want something to happen that has no basis in reality or law, so just keep calling other people idiots while wondering why your viewpoints are never accepted.

Nrokreffefp: WhyteRaven74: Nrokreffefp: Their religion is not solely based on the New Testament,

However whatever Jesus taught is supposed to be the bedrock for everything. As for born against, they care even less for what Jesus said than Catholics do.

If Jesus was the basis for everything, there would be no need to create a doctrine of Papal Infallibility because it would all be covered. The Catholics, like every other organized church I've ever come into contact with, are simply hijacking Jesus' message for worldly power and wealth. I've met some interesting people who actually follow the teachings of Christ, but none of them that I've met are devout members of any specific faith.

Saying something is the basis doesn't mean it covers anything.

Considering Jesus was very big on treating everyone as equal, seems someone is rather missing the point.

I'm not a catholic, gotta say that up front. My wife and children are though. My father in law asked me a couple times about converting and I told him I was a happy heathen. Thanks but no thanks. I don't get Catholicism at all. It's wrong to talk about and accept gays...but it's ok to walk in the school and the first you see in a dead guy. Nailed to a piece of wood. Bleeding from his ribs and head with a look on his face that says "sh*t, you think you're having a bad day". Violence and a gruesome death. OKAY. Gays, burn 'em at the stake. Yeah, that's got to be a gods central message. Only love some of your neighbours. Slay the rest.

Oh, and for GD to post pics of hot Catholic school girls. Can't forget that.

I sincerly believe the Catholic church periodically gets taken over by petty men who use it to advance personal power or a political agenda. Always before, when they eventually break out of the bad phase, the people come back. That's partly because for centuries religion was where people went for answers.

In today's world, people are looking to Science for answers. The Church has been steadily losing members. Oddly, rather than consider that as a warning to moderate their message, they are taking it as a sign they should harden their message. I believe this is due to demographics; as Churches in moderate areas get closed, the only ones left are in "strongholds". Since only the most fundamentalist are left, they assume that the other churches failed because they "lost their way" and weren't fundamental enough.

This rightward shift only serves to further alienate the church from the mainstream, and bolsters the ranks of the fastest growing religious denomination: ex-Catholics.

The bad new for the church is: this time, I don't think the members will come back. Long gone are the days when we viewed lightning as "the finger of God". We now know you can defeat it with a simple piece of grounded metal. (Check out Asimov's "The fateful Lightning"). Religion has a place to provide comfort to people seeking answers to questions Science can't answer (the afterlife) - but people are quickly running out of patience for religions that try to dictate day to day life - often in ways that directly contradict what we now know.

/Good for the girls about not letting the Church's decision bother them. Just two more people raised in Catholic tradition who will never be members.
//Bad Church! No tithes for you!
