Who is going to identify with some hippy, liberal, socialist that lived 2000 years ago?

It's all about appearances. I think a lot of people who invoke the J-Dude are actually channeling the highly legalistic control freak known as Paul. Jesus just had a better PR team, I guess.

But I don't want to be some interesting not really major player that gets killed off in order to make the audience feel like the core characters aren't really safe!

That's because Jesus wasnt a fictional character subby, so its more like you trying to be like Obama - nobody can imitate their deity very well.

I know fark has a lot of vocal atheists and quiet deists, so I'm going to get flamed for saying subby is an unclever dipstick for going after the easiest headline. I will agree with the article, though I'm curious as to how many farkers believe they're an orc or an elf now.

Actually many different religions and cultures of that time provide proof and documentation (not green card kind) that Jesus as a person dis exist. The miracles part is where the debate comes in. I don't automatically judge and demean others like subby does though.

I seem to recall a Penn & Teller Bullshiat segment where they had to concede that due to Roman records of the crucifixion, there probably was a real Jesus (not that his name was Jesus). Not exactly historical documentation there, but a place to look for sources.

There's a shiatload of evidence that a man named Jesus was around and pissed off the ruling parties of the day, and got crucified. Now, is there any evidence AT ALL that he was the son of God, did any miracles, or did anything out of the ordinary? Hell no.

So both sides are right. Yes, Jesus existed. No, he wasn't anything special other than a possibly mentally challenged martyr that Christianity latched onto.

Subby you are assuming they actually read the bible.

Of course, the quickest way to atheism is to actually read the bible, so maybe not.

Lordserb- "... My goodness just because you don't believe that Jesus is God doesn't mean there isn't a ton of evidence indicated that he did indeed live..."

Really? Because from just about everything I have read on the topic from reputable scholars, there is virtually nothing written about him, from contemporaries. Now, there's a ton of what turned out to be forgeries and "amended" documents to add him to books, centuries after he supposedly existed. But as for actual contemporaneous accounts by 3rd parties, I am unaware of anyone who actually recorded his existence outside of the authors of the various "gospels" most of whom never knew him.

The only 2 documents that "confirm" Jesus' existence are the new testament, which was written at least 300 years after his supposed death, and one demonstrably faked section of a book by a historian.

We can't even find evidence of Pontious Pilate, and he actually mattered. Claiming with certainty that Jesus didn't exist isn't one of those things there's a point to doing, but functionally, Jesus is no more proven to exist than harry potter is.

Article warns of people identifying with Patrick Bateman. Really? That book was pretty obviously satirical. "Likable and charismatic"? He was a parody of shallow jerkass 80s guys. Anyone who sympathized with him was probably pretty screwed up to begin with.

Then again, an entire generation of businessmen seems to have grown up under the impression that Gordon Gecko is a role model, so maybe I have too much faith in humanity.

Which Jesus are we talking about?

Is it cute little Baby Jesus?

Angry in the Temple Jesus?

Emo Garden of Gethsemane Jesus?

Disappointed Good Friday Jesus?

Pissed of Revelations Jesus?

In all seriousness, they don't emulate Jesus because, when you get down to it, most of what is in the Bible is pure Paul. And Paul was kind of a dick.

I enjoy Dexter too, however the books are an abortion. Im really happy that showtime moved away from the books as source material. So So happy.

The books go into a weird supernatural angle where dexters dark passenger is some kind of demon wanabe. Thee cliche good vs evil black and white battle crap... its pretty horrible.
