I wonder how many naked people that camera has taken pictures of in its lifetime.

How many megapixels?

The modern digital prosumer camera has better resolution and optics than that little collector's item.

I used to be a dyed in the wool film enthusiast, but it's just not worth it anymore now that I can take hundreds of shots with my EOS 5D.

It's kind of sad to see my old FM3a sit there on the shelf, but times change.

Ghastly: I wonder how many naked people that camera has taken pictures of in its lifetime.

And since it still works and the lens is in one piece you just know all those people were hot.

Including the buyer's premium, the price paid at the WestLicht auction on Saturday was more than seven times the starting price of 300,000 euros, WestLicht said.

2,800,000 / 300,000 = 9.33333333333.....

I wonder what the Pentax I paid a little over $200 for in the mid-90s is worth? Probably zilch, but I found it the other day and there's still film in it.

I figure that's for the paper's "breaking news" section of the website or one of those "we interrupt Judge Joe Brown to bring you a breaking news story" newsflashes, MMSed direct to the editor to be added to the story. Higher quality photos will be cropped, resized, and added to the story when she gets back to the office or gets a chance to offload and send them from a laptop.

When or at what price does a camera go from Used to Vintage?

*Shrug* it's nice someone can pay that much to own a bit of history.

OTOH- this is for everyone Link

Also possibly the phone was being used to take video on the spot to be uploaded right away.

Next on Pawn Stars, some guy wants $500,000 for a Polaroid that his dad bought new back in the '60's.

I gotta go find me a bunch of old, beat to snot doodads. Apparently, there's a lot of people with a sh*tstack of idle capital and some display cases.

Units, how do they work?

From the first paragraph: "A rare 1923 Leica went for 2.16 million euros ($2.8 million)"

Starting price was 300,000 euros... You're dividing US dollars by euros.

/beaten by newspaper math, the shame

$2.8 million.....that's not that much more than a brand-new Leica.

a new Leica costs about the same.

If it's a K1000, then not much since they made millions of those. I picked up a late 70's model Pentax K1000 at an antique store for $10 a couple of months ago. eBay has dozens of them listed with prices ranging from practically free to around $100 depending on condition and accessories.

Every once and a while I'll feel nostalgic and shoot some pics on film. Then after about 10 minutes of trying to remember how to develop it properly I remember why I like digital so much more.

You're right, your old camera is worth exactly nothing.

I own several old cameras dating from the '20s through the '50s, all in working order, but I am under no illlusion as to their worth. Very few old cameras are worth anything, Leicas being a notable exception.

I have this old camera that used this thing called film... No, not like the film on subby's mom. I wonder what it's worth?

That or he wants to share something with friends quickly. I'll use my phone while I'm using my good camera, just so I don't have to wait till I get home to text something or send it to my gallery.

Yes, with the organs coming out, if possible. Or maybe I just meant having lots of gear and using my iPhone and looking like an idiot for doing so.

The logic makes sense in your original comment. I've often taken my good camera into a concert or other event, and then taken a few snaps with my phone in order to upload immediately to social networks. No idiocy implied.
