It did not give a reason for his exit but said the board had settled a proxy battle with Third Point and will nominate three of its slate of four candidates to Yahoo's board.

This is like giving the Titanic some new junior officers.

Well, I got plenty of results when I googled it.

The M&A guys are going to make buckets parting the company out.

Another brand into the dustbin of history.

Turning down Microsoft's offer to buy them for $33 a share really has worked out wonderfully.

And yet yahoo makes money on their marketing and search businesses and Ballmer hasn't made a dime off theirs since they launched it.

/although at 33/share - yahoo was waaaay overvalued

I thought it was pretty clear - Jerry Yang didn't want his baby to be bought by the likes of Microsoft. Classic example of emotion ruling over hard business truths.

Considering Yahoo uses the Bing search engine I'd say Microsoft is making something.

The good news is they're replacing him with the genius who paid $500 million for Myspace. Link

If Yahoo had the cash on hand another solution would've been "Alright, you don't like our CEO, you don't have to own our shares, so here's their current market value in cash".

Yahoo probably would have been prominent on the new Microsoft phones. If Yahoo does eventually go under, I hope they spin off Flickr. I still think they are the best photo sharing spot.

What search business? Yahoo has been Powered by Bing™ since 2010 and will be so until at least 2020.

Yahoo better stay afloat for many years yet. I still use a Yahoo mail. Switching e-mail addresses is too much of a hassle.

/have had to do it multiple times

He had helped steer News Corp's acquisition of MySpace,

Look how successful MySpace is now! He will definitely be a really good asset for Yahoo!

Just in case, what are some other ones? I've got quite a few loaded into Flickr. I'd hate to see them all disappear because the company went out of business.

Third Point was pissed that they didn't get to be on the Board, so they dug until they found something.

If it wasn't this resume padding, they would have found something else on Thompson. They were on a witch hunt because they were "slighted".

Not excusing Thompson's padding, of course, just seems this was "business as usual".

It's why I got out of the corporate sector. Largest pissing contest in the world.
