So all the Chinese Communists have to do now is invent land-based sharks to overrun Tibet.

Hmm, the telegraph (source for this story) had another weird Dalai Lama fear just yesterday:

Not going to spoil it

Senility, or is he just a weird guy?

He should look into therapy that would wean him from his attachment to the physical elements of this universe. These can only distract from the contemplation of the infinite.

What does that have to do with representing himself as the voice of God on Earth to millions of stupid followers? The fact that he's been involved in that kind of thing only makes him WORSE than Dalai IMO.

Honestly, I'd rather be totally unconscious if I were being eaten by sharks.

Wait till he dies. China will "elect" a Dalai Lama, and the followers in India will elect one. It will be the Western Schism all over again!

Subby, when he said "go under the sea and be enjoyed by a shark", I think it's pretty obvious he meant "be raped by a shark", not be eaten by one.

He tenders a five dollar note and waits for his change.

He looks quizzically at the server, who says "Change comes from within"

There's kind of a reason there's no organized in Star Trek. No one has all the answers. If they claim they do they are selling you bill of goods you don't want or need. We need to put away all religions as all children must with their toys and grow up as species. Spiritual fulfillment comes from within. You don't need any set belief structure. Dali Lama isn't more enlighten than anyone else. Jesus isn't coming back. Neither is final Imam or the Messiah. Nor Kali. Buddha's teaching aren't going to enlighten the universe. We can only save our selves from our own destructive tendencies.

The core values in Buddhism are all about saving yourself from your own destructive tendancies. They're more of a psychology 101 - you dont have to adopt beliefs to follow them.

/There's a reason psychologists around the world have been jumping on mindfulness meditation as a way to help people.

It is important to state that the spiritualist-transcendentist streak of Buddhism has been greatly over-exaggerated in the West. The vast majority of Eastern buddhists follow paths that have intensive metaphysical cosmology like any other religion. There's a lot of glossing over of the more "bakti"(yeah hindu term but it is appropriate) or devotional Buddhist practices.

THIS.

"Enjoyed" certainly implies the Shark is having sex with him... after all, with the Dalai Lama's diet and age, he's way too gristly to be anything resembling a good meal for a shark.

First off, sharks don't rut, so you can't be raped by one. Second, he clearly meant to be eaten by a shark.

Pretty sure he lives in India. I actually just saw him in Long Beach two weeks ago. He was great. Talked for an hour and a half. Very smart and funny. It was arett secular talk, he isn't into trying to get people to convert. In fact, one quote was "there are seven billion people on this planet, they will never all agree on one thing".

Even better was the PETA protest there. Protesting him? WTF.

Either/both? What are the odds that a man revered as a living god, a pop star and an exile forced to leave his own country at a young age would be entirely non-goofy in the brain?

I mean, I find him an interesting speaker, but let's not mince words: at heart, he's just another religious cult leader.

Barbecue - Peta hates barbecues :
`
Relations between China and the Tibetan
government-in-exile in India are poor and
mutual suspicion high following more than 30 self-immolations in the last year by Tibetans in protest at Chinese moves to marginalise their language and culture.
