This is is just a recipe for political and legal disaster.

AbbeySomeone: This is is just a recipe for political and legal disaster.

I don't see why. if a hetero couple get re-married, there's a legal paper drill that the parents can do that will make sure the kids are recognized as the legitimate heirs of both parents. same sort of thing here - it's no different than if a step father were to adopt his step-kids as legal heirs.

I have no objection to clarifying the procedure a bit when it comes to same sex couples. a more 'gender neutral' approach to family law is a good thing.

Becoming a mother wasn't easy for either woman. They always knew they wanted children together. So about five years ago, they sought assistance from Dr. Craig Sweet, a reproductive endocrinologist and medical director of Specialists in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery in Fort Myers who is hung like a horse. Together with his existing contract with Vivid Video, they begged and squealed for his 12 inches of bicurious hose and its storehouse of hot baby batter...

One can often use a kind of algebra to work out logical issues like this. This is like a divide by zero.

I asked, unknowingly, a lesbian at a local grocery if she would like to take in a movie or dinner some evening. She replied something about her girlfriend. Not knowing when to shut up, I replied, "Great! If it works out she can be Maid of Honor and Best Man too". Don't think I should shop there any more.

Like Ron White says, "I find that when arrested I have the right to remain silent but not the ability to".

Children raised in loving homes are a good thing.

Also, now the women will have a lower risk at developing breast cancer.

High fives, all around.

Again with this bullshiat, all they have to do is have simply papers drawn up saying the other has legal rights to the kids in every aspect.

If you don't like it then don't bring this shiat on yourself.

High school story! When I was a junior there was this smokin' hot gal in one of my classes. I can still remember her face pretty well, but most notably she had beautiful jet black hair. I tried to talk to her a few times and asked her out once, but always got shot down. Being the emo kid that I was, I wrote a poem about her too. Anyway, one day I piled into a buddy's car with a few other friends to go home. One guy looks around and says, "Hey, you know who's a big dyke? Hottie Blackenhair!" All my other friends immediately turned towards me and a collective, "DUDE!" was shouted out.
I probably shouldn't have, but I felt pretty shiatty after that.

Um - its not that simple - first off - its expensive - second off - they can be challenged in court by third parties if something goes wrong like one of them dies (e.g. a mother who doesn't agree with her childrens "life choices" and tries to take the children away) and many times ignored by hospitals or other institutions.

The simple fair solution is just allow them to marry. Its better for them, its better for the kids, and its better for society.

it shouldn't make any difference tho. in fact, if Florida decided to fight against it, i'll bet they'd get their asses kicked by the federal courts. this is 'see spot run' kinda lawyering.

you've got me on the whole 'expensive' thing. it probably IS expensive to arrange adoption papers in this situation. But that said, it's straightforward and completely legal. point conceded - it would be easier to simply allow 'gay marriage' (i'm not sure I like that term...it should just be 'marriage') and be done with it...but until/unless someone gets SCOTUS to rule on the issue the states with powerful evangelical lobbists are going to keep fighting against it. so maybe adoption would be the better route to go for now.

Marrying has nothing to do with it. Step-parents don't get parental rights through marriage -- they must adopt as well.

Should have gone the direct donation route, whole lot cheaper.

granted, this is true...but that said, it makes things easier all around if we just allow same sex marriage. that streamlines the whole process, and puts gays into the same catagory as hetero couples who remarry and just want to adopt their step-kids.

Yea, I had self esteem issues, this didn't help. And it's not like I ruined it for the rest of you, more like I gave a great opportunity to the other girls in my school...which led to some mind pron. So, I guess I still got something out of it.

I'm just saying we don't transfer legal control of humans through marriage anymore.

Its not just adoption papers. Its hospital visitation, spousal protections, inheritance, etc. Hell - the adoption process may be the easiest thing to complete.

for the record, as a libertarian gay marriage isn't costing me anything...so hey, rock on with yer bad selves. dont matter to me none.

the only reason I can think of to oppose gays getting married is on religious grounds. which is fine - if a church thinks of homosexuality is a sin, then that's certainly their perogative. But...this country isn't a theocracy. we don't make our court system enforce religious laws. ok, so a church congregation opposes gay marriage. that's great. but that same congregation can't stop another church (or a justice of the peace) from marrying two gay people. they can scream bloody murder about it all day long if they'd like...but they shouldn't get to say two consenting adults can't get married.

i'm really starting to wonder if any of these laws banning gay marriage will stand up to constitutional review. if the only reason for laws against gay marriage are religious, then SCOTUS is going to have an extremely difficult time imposing a religious viewpoint on the country at large. not that I doubt our conservatives in black wouldn't just lurve to turn us into a corporate theocratic authoritarian hell pit...its just that the laws are pretty clear on that whole seperation of church and state thing. Even SCOTUS has to follow the law.
