GO YOTES!

That headline is . . . I don't want to be rude here, but I think whoever came up with it was drunk enough Nickelback sounded like a good karaoke idea. Which is to say, clinically dead.

Anyway, enough whinging. Go LA!

2012-05-13 01:46:30 PM
Errr....shouldn't that be HockeyTown? That is what you were going for, right?

Man we have a lot of fail headlines this year. Anyway, go Yotes!

Not my headline, but you do realize, this means war...

You have something against the Lakers and Clippers?

/ there's more than hockey in LA, ya' know.

2012-05-13 01:57:10 PM
The Pens are sadly out, but so are the Flyers and Caps

Short of Gene Hackman coming in to coach Rudy by throwing wrenches at him on one of these teams, I think the Cup is going to the East winner

So for that, Go Yotes -- you'll be losing to the Devils anyway.

I prefer Hockeytown.

/Go devils and, I guess, Phoenix

LA will never be a sports town. It's just not in it's nature. Too many people from other parts of the country/world with their own original teams.

And if the team has a loosing streak... Nobody is a fan

They should tighten it up then

Heaven forbid people rally around a team that's good, and shun a team that sucks. Guess LA should be more like the rest of the country and show blind devotion to a team simply because its in the same geographical region as them.

So no slutty bachelorette party analysis then? Or just not trumpeting it in the headline & letting everyone else know of the fun to be had in the hockey threads....

Anyway, it's good to finally have a team to cheer for again. As a Ducks fan I'm contractually obligated to root against LA soooooo, GO COYOTES!!!

/with any luck the Rangers & Devils will beat the crap out of each other & the finals will be reasonably easy

That's the definition of a Sports town. Yes they will biatch about their team losing streak, but they won't abandon them. If that was the case, the Cubs would have been shut down years ago.

The LA area is more noted for outdoors activities. Hiking, skiing, biking, snowboarding, rock climbing, ect. Ect. With nice weather, people are generally doing their own sports than living vicariously through their sports heroes.

Predictions:

Devils in 7: The Rangers beat the #8 Sens in 7 games. They beat the #7 Caps in 7 games. I think they will pay for that in this series against Marty and the #6 Devils.

I hope I'm wrong on this one...

Kings in 7: Goaltending is a push. Defense is a push. Special teams is a push (great PK and pathetic PP). The Kings just have a touch more offense than the Coyotes and that is just enough to worry me as a Coyotes fan that our road will end here.

If I don't get a chance to do this before the game, I'd be lying if I wished the Kings and their fans good luck so I'll just say here's hoping all of the players survive in good health and may the best team win.

GO YOTES

/grew up a Kings fan so if they do beat us and don't do anything douchey, I'll likely pull for them in the Final

"SportsTown USA"?!? Don't make me hate L.A. more than I already do.

Devils in 6, Coyotes in 7.

For some lulz, I just found this wonderful canucks butthurt article and thought I'd share Link

Let's Stop Maligning the President's Trophy

"I think you can make a very valid argument that the President's Trophy winner is more likely to be the actual best team in the league rather than the Stanley Cup winner."

"But the fact is that having the best record over the 82 game grine is no small feat. In some ways it is a bigger accomplishment than winning 16 games in the playoffs."

"Upsets happen in the playoffs, but why do they happen, why are they considered upsets? Because the team that loses has proven over 82 games to be a superior squad to the one that got hot at "the right time"."

"They don't throw any parades for the President's Trophy winner, this is true. They also don't hold any riots."

2012-05-13 06:50:33 PM
I'll take the Rangers in 6, or even 5. Devils have had a good run, but the Rangers are a class above Florida and the Flyers, who were significantly weakened by the Pittsburgh series. Yeah, the Rangers have their bruises, but they're a much more complete team than either the Panthers or Flyers were. And Lundquist is the better goalie right now, playing behind a defense that's been stifling.

In the west, I'll take the Yotes in 7. This on is a coin flip to me, but when pressed, I'll take the team with the longer track record. Both teams are just playing very sound hockey with no gimmicks. It should be a good, and low scoring series decided by bounces.

Anyway, looking forward to both series. I'm in a position where I like both LA and Phoenix and couldn't care less about the Devils or Rangers, but there's plenty of bad blood in the East, so it'll be good hockey regardless.

Agree. but I don't like that nickname today. sounds like the eggs I puked this morning... in technicolor.

Go kings! I want a LA-NY final.

/don't care who really wins
//there's only 21 possible games left, I want then to play all 21

2012-05-13 07:20:20 PM
Fark it, i'm cheering for the Kings. I have absolutely no dog in this fight. I'd just like to see them in the finals against either NJ or NYR.

2012-05-13 07:22:28 PM
Go Arizona, for the love of Tebow, someone beat the gorram Kings.

2012-05-13 07:35:12 PM
These are the teams that took out two favorite teams, so no love for either from me. Between Quick and Smith, I'm just looking forward to some great goaltending.

2012-05-13 07:36:52 PM
torn on this because I want to see LA/NYR duel between Vezina finalists for the cup, but Mike Smith has been freakin' amazing

LA in 6
NYR in 5

The Wings still have that one claimed. And since the state really is diehard for the Wings, I don't think anyone else can take it from us.

Doc Daneeka: I think I just want whichever team comes out of the West to win the Cup.

Seconded. I'd be a lot happier to see LA or Phoenix (especially Phoenix) win the Cup for the first time than the Rangers or Devils getting...another one.

Yeah, even though i'm pulling for the coyotes here, I got no beef with L.A. Hell, I grew up in San Diego and all we had were the IHL Gulls and the Kings.
Now i'm a Coyotes fan, but will be puking for whoever comes out of the West.

If you look at old pictures from the Lightning's "victory parade" when they won the Cup, that's all you need to not root for Phoenix. A Kings parade won't be as big as a Lakers parade but it would still be better than Phoenix. And the poor Rangers need a victory parade do over -- their last one was overshadowed by some dude named OJ driving a Ford Bronco on a highway.

lets go hockey

Until then, however, let's go Yotes!

I'm rooting for LA because Arizona is a farking fascist state. Until Joe Arpaio's head is rotting on a pike, Arizona will not have my support in anything. At the same time, the Kings have a great feelgood story, upsetting two top seeds to get to this point. If they win the cup, even if they beat the Rangers, I won't be too disappointed. So (for now) GO LA KINGS!

RminusQ: AKTurkey: Let's Stop Maligning the President's Trophy

Quick thought experiment which I will now endeavor to check against my records: Comparing the number of conference championships and Cups for the Presidents' Trophy winners vs. those for the opposite #1 seed.

Thought experiment results: There have been 18 seasons under the current conference-based playoff format. Of the 18 PT winners, 5 have won the Cup and 2 have been Cup runner-ups. Only two opposite #1s have made the Cup finals: the 01 Devils lost to the PT winning Avalanche, and the 04 Lightning won it all.

JESUS NBC COULD YOU GET US BACK TO THE ARENA TEN DAMN SECONDS BEFORE PUCK DROP?
