Woa Woa, you mean a police department is employing equipment that doesn't cost $10,000 an hour to operate and cost 7 million to buy? Something they can actually afford to operate and maintain? Sweet.

Until the FAA undoes its restriction on civilian drones, it will do.

A new toy for the cops using cheap tech. They are probably likely to lose more pilots in accidents than they save lives on the ground. Plus they will be sitting ducks if they overfly any pot growers at low altitudes.

It's really quite simple to get pigs to fly. All you need is enough thrust.

There was an episode of Harry's Law where the police were using a remote control helicopter to look in her neighbors windows at night, where Harry shot it down. Very funny.
But it seems to me that almost everyday we give up something else to the powers to be.
Wait until they see me playing "Free Willie" in the pool at night.

RIPON, Calif. -- Ripon Police Department pilots will be increasing aerial patrols above the city in response to recent daylight thefts and burglaries, police said.

So in RIPON they are trying to stop the RIPOFFS. Cool.

ftfa: Ripon pilots will also be increasing aerial patrols over the Stanislaus River due to increased use of Ripon's riverine park system in the spring and summer months.

They certainly seem to be willing to go to great lemths to stop crime.
