I hate Saturday night racing. Leave it at the one night Bristol race, Daytona's summer race, and the Coke 600 (which is a Sunday of course).

Its a fun novelty... but not every damn race should be going to the night. ESPECIALLY when you're not competing against the NFL.

If you absolutely have to do more night races, it should be during football season.

Other questions:

Will Farkers not turn this into a Danica pics thread?

Will it be an official race if Danica wrecks?

Will the Lady in Black give Danica a pass?

Why? Its not the first race of the season, and its a fairly bland track.

I mean, I understand all the practices and exhibition races before the Daytona 500... NASCAR often changes a lot of rules and templates for cars on the offseason, do you need a lot more time to test everything out.

But, unless I'm mistaken, the Indy 500 is race 5 of 16?

downstairs: But, unless I'm mistaken, the Indy 500 is race 5 of 16?

Well, part of it is the 'event' nature of the track, and another part of it was the track isn't that bland when it comes to IndyCars. But at this point a lot of it is tradition. In the older days, deals would develop over the month of May to put out of work drivers in different cars, trying to bump other teams from the field. Not too long ago Tony Stewart showed up to the track on the last day of qualification and was set to bump his way into the field until Chevrolet put a damper on the whole thing.

That said, this year it IS the first time they've run the oval package competitively.

Hmmmm... explain? I'm a huge Stewart fan, but never heard of that.

As far as I remember, he raced every Indy 500 from 1999-2001, until they moved up the Coke 600 and drivers couldn't do the double-duty* thing any more.

It was 2004. I was covering Robby McGehee, and doing a piece on how last minute deals came together at the Speedway. I had written 30 inches already and had my interesting, though not dramatic piece completed. Then Tony Stewart showed up to the track and gave my piece the bookend it needed, but made my day much, much more stressful. I rewrote an entire 40 inch story in about two hours. Anyway, here it is, this is what used to happen at Indy.

And, while I am not a Stewart fan, I would love for them to bring the double back. I'd imagine there would be about four or five drivers that would try it.

Haters need to stop hatin'. Danica will be the Darlington Darling as her true skills shine to bring home another win for SHR. She'll be the woman of the hour just in time for Mother's Day and a precursor to her getting a full-time ride in next year's Cup.

Damn, NASCAR would love that, pull in more women, and make her a villain(ess) for the traditionalists. I'm almost rooting for her just because of the shiatstorm that would happen.

Anyone know when the actual green flag time is? I don't feel like sitting through an hour of pre race talk when I can just race online or watch paint dry.

Watching ALMS at Laguna Seca atm via ESPN3.com, it'll kill the time until DW and Co. are done boring us to tears until the NASCAR green flag drops (at which time DW and Co. will repeat the blindingly obvious during the 3 minutes they have between the 4-minute-long commercial breaks).

Boogity?

Despite all the over-hype, all she wants to do is finish races and get experience. Can't fault Danica for the overblown coverage.

Darlington is one of the more challenging courses on the circuit, I'm surprised she's racing here.

Also, I will not start watching this for another hour or so, DVR rocks and commercials suck ass.

Agreed. I live in Indianapolis, and every May it turned into the Danica show with the local stations. Open wheel has had serious issues the last 10 years, and I remember when I was a kid Georgetown road (right next to IMS) being full of vendors. last year, it was all danica merchandise. She creates a media circus because of her vagina.

So? Elliot Sadler is leading the series and he could barely do 25th in points with the big boys. She's an above average driver, but not on par with the varsity players
