(Some Wright-Thinker)   Cool: buying a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house for one dollar. Difficulty: in exchange for having to label, disassemble and move it stick by stick to a new site to avoid demolition. Holy crap: in two weeks   ( divider line

Farty McPooPants: Ummm, why were they going to demolish these homes? Did I miss that part?

Article didnt see fit to tell us, but I'm guessing it's to place a gem like this on the two lots.

Breathtaking really.

I'm OK with the idea of preserving homes designed by famous people, but I have one big question: if the house is desirable, why is it that nobody wants to live in them? The people that have the coin to fight for preservation also have the means to purchase the house, renovate it, and live in it, yet the house remains unoccupied and on the market for years until someone decides to buy it for the land and tear down the structure. Suddenly it's super-valuable and worth defending, even though not one of the defenders stepped up to the plate and bought the property with an eye on protecting it.

Smeggy Smurf: Greene & Greene were 10 times the architects of that overrated hack

Woot! FLW thread! This should be as good as the religion, alien, and Obama threads.

I never heard of Greene & Greene.....which means flamboyance and self-publicizing go a lot further in this world than architectural competence. Now go for it.

whatshisname: FLW had some good ideas, but I have no idea how anyone lived in any of his houses. They were designed for midgets who like sitting on hard angular surfaces.
