FTA:

Marisa Langford, 33, a mother of three with another baby on the way, is a longtime resident of Seminole Heights. She says signs like the ones at Cappy's make her and other parents feel unwelcome.

"As a parent I'm already a target because I have three kids under seven. I see the eye rolls. At Cappy's, there could have been a "keep Cappy's safe" campaign or something posted that showed a little more respect for parents. The signs have slowed down my patronage of Cappy's - you don't want to go somewhere where you don't feel welcome."

Good, GTFO and take your annoying little crumbcrunchers with you.

This should be posted in every restaurant in America.

This is really sad for those people who have actually parented their children. A kid can sit and enjoy a meal with adults, but you actually have to have discipline and penalties for those children to become reasonable.

Of course, I don't have kids, so I'm sure little Jayden and Crystophers parents will be in here to tell me how I'm crushing their precious spirits by getting annoyed when they run into the legs of a waitress holding a tray of hot food.

Parents:

Your children aren't special. No one else wants to listen to them or deal with them. If you can't deal with that fact, that's too bad. But just because you're deaf, dumb, and blind to how annoying your children are doesn't mean the rest of the world is.

but...I'm a mommy!!! That means I'm special!!

Why are they in restaurants anyway? Shouldn't they still be breastfeeding thier kids?

*giggles*

Good on the restaurant. There are kid-friendly places and places that are not kid-friendly. Take your kids to a kid-friendly place.

That said, in the picture, Cappy's looks like a dump. Clean that place up a bit, Scooter, or this kidless adult will avoid it, too.

Sometimes I look back on my life and remember all the mistakes I've made, but I've always been thrilled I never had kids. What a nightmare that would have been. At least I did one thing right. All I feel is a vague sense of pity for parents.

This should be a Constitutional Amendment.

Three Crooked Squirrels: Good on the restaurant. There are kid-friendly places and places that are not kid-friendly. Take your kids to a kid-friendly place.

www.tampabay.com

It's called Cappy's Pizzeria. I'm all for asking people to leave if their kids are disturbing customers and I understand the owner's right to choose not to serve people on that basis, but come on. Look at the place's Yelp page. (pops) The photos show arcade games and colorful pennants all over the place. I wonder if the owner understands his clientele.

Grant Central Pizza in Atlanta made news for posting on the menu that all crying small people should be taken outside.

This part made me giggle and want to take a couple of midgets there and pay them to cry until someone asks me to take them outside.

He's not saying no kids. He's saying control your kids. There's a difference.

FFS, it's not that hard. You should take your varmint outside as soon as it starts exhibiting signs that it's going to be very annoying to everyone else in the place. I have a 2 year old. The moment she starts being a butt, we go outside.

My fav sign in a drs office. "Unsupervised children will be given expresso and a free puppy".

Can there be a law that it's perfectly acceptable to hip-check a child in skate shoes rolling around a public place?

He's probably offending some easily-offended parents even though most people walk into that place knowing there could be some bratty kids about.

His point about the kids damaging the property is well-taken, though.

I frequent several places in Portland that are 21+ with arcade games and colorful pennants. For all the bad things the OLCC does, I like not allowing kids in places with gambling (which is almost every bar in the state.)

I favor 'attachment parenting' in this situation.

Your kid stays attached to you... and I won't smack them as they run by.

Good, it's supposed to, dummy.

I don't mind kids. I don't even mind kids ACTING like kids. What I do mind is parents who don't ACT LIKE PARENTS and explain to their kids that there are places to behave better and restaurants are one of them. Contrary to parents' belief, you can actually train a three-year old to sit still and mind his/her table manners in public for the duration of a meal, and everyone will thank you if you do.

When I'm out in public and see a well-behaved child(ren) sitting at their table or whatever, I make a point of telling the parents what a good kid they've got; and especially if there's a rotten brat one table over.

2012-05-11 09:53:31 PM
My mother used to tell ANY child who misbehaved, and whose parent would not control them, "Settle down before I snatch you baldheaded".

Children (including me) were well behaved at our house.

Oh, and our home was the preferred gathering place in the small town we lived in. For both children an adults, though some asshole parents never returned.

It looks more like a college hangout to me. I don't think kids today are very impressed with PacMan.

"For the comfort and safety of everybody, if you allow your child to run, scream or misbehave, you will be asked to leave."

If you need a sign to tell you this isn't acceptable behavior, the fact that it's posted probably won't matter.

As a smoker, I understand no-smoking zones. If I want to smoke I go somewhere else. It's about time those with kids have the same philosophy applied. Of course when I want to smoke, I go out of my way to not bother anyone near me. I can't say the same for the majority of parents with annoying, mis-behaving, spoiled brats running around tho.

Cappy's is right around the corner from me! Yay Seminole Heights.I don't go there due to bad service issues and a general hipster atmosphere I love the fact that they are still open. Good on Scooter for standing up to the irresponsible breeders. There is nothing worse than unruly children in a restaurant.

I can think of a half-dozen places that are family-friendly until 9 or 10 p.m., then transform into beer/tequila/vodka-soaked frat parties.

Making parents control their kids requires a bit of a lighter touch, with perhaps a plea for sympathy attached. Otherwise, they get defensive.

I have to wonder if Farkers hang out at Chuck E Cheese more than I'd expect, or if most of the country just allows kids everywhere?

I know a bar owner in Portland who saw his business increase significantly in part because he made the place 21+. Do businesses outside the NW not know about this?

I have kids. I take a zero tolerence view on their behavior in public. Luckily, i have rarely had issues. But I have seen plenty of parents who ignore their obnoxious asshole of a crotch fruit. I have told people to control their children when the kid gets physical with the table or food. They always give me dirty looks like I'm the asshole. The really interesting thing to me is the blue collar kids are always the best behaved.

The parents who are pissed off about this are the same ones who bring a goddamn INFANT into the movie theater and let the little shiat cry through half the movie until finally the theater manager has to ask her to leave.
