Old Man Winter: You usually do better that this.

It's cute how you and your kind call people trolls because you're so damn convinced that everybody should think like you do. Whitney is a farking hilarious show, deal with it.

I will admit to having seen Whitney a few times. It actually isn't the worst ever. The guy is really funny and usually puts that whore in her place pretty often so that made it worth seeing once in a while.

I tried community but just didn't find it worth watching. I also don't watch the Saturday Night Live pity shows for cast members during the unfunny years that can't get work outside of NBC (Parks and 30 rock).

2012-05-11 07:53:52 PM
This sounds like the "That's good, that's bad" conversation from the Simpsons.

Community is back next season, that's good.
It'll only get 13 episodes, that's bad
It means hopefully less filler and better episodes, that's good.
Yet Whitney got more episodes than Community and Parks and Rec combined, that's bad.

More "Parks and Recreation" and "Happy Endings" to go with the "Community" renewal. Good times.

At least Castle got renewed.

t3knomanser: What the hell is "Whitney"? Didn't she die, recently? Isn't this totally in the category of "Too soon!"? Making a sitcom out of a recently dead pop-singer?

Also, last night's "Community" was easily the best of the season.

I wonder if I should start stocking up on ammo now for my killing spree if Awake gets cancelled while Whitney gets renewed?

2012-05-11 08:12:04 PM
aside from sports, I watch the following.

CBS: NCIS/NCIS LA
ABC: Castle
NBC: Nothing
Fox: used to watch Bones, but haven't in a while
CW: Supernatural

browntimmy: eagles95: Only thing i watch on NBC is football in the fall. I may catch some olympics this summer. Otherwise nothing.

For me:
FOX: Nothing
ABC: Nothing (Although I do get the appeal of Modern Family)
CBS: Craig Ferguson and Nothing
NBC: Commnunity, Parks & Rec, 30 Rock, The Office (even though I know it needs to end)

So NBC is good with me, at least in comparison to the others.

I was going to say we should be friends, because that's pretty much my same list (perhaps more Modern Family and less 30 Rock), but we live in the same metro area, so that'd be kind of weird... right?

Whitney is the only show on television that will tell the stories today's women want to see.

How do you deal when your boyfriend just wants to sit around talking about his feelings when you really want to get some?

What would it be like to take your friends shopping for dildos, only to see--oh no!--your mother is also shopping there!

What's the plan, Jan, when your boyfriend doesn't want to experiment in the bedroom by trying on your panties?

Why does this not surprise me at all?

And while she might be blowing somebody at NBC, that's not necessarily what keeps lowest-common-demoninator comedies on the air.

Yeah, but who really wants to get a blowjob from Jim Belushi? Hell, if Jim Belushi was working the register at McDonalds, I'd probably hop lines to keep him from touching my food.

I would accept Belushi doing the latter, so long as Courtney Thorne-Smith is doing the former.

RoyFokker'sGhost: I wonder if I should start stocking up on ammo now for my killing spree if Awake gets cancelled while Whitney gets renewed?

THIS.
I was intrigued by the premise, so I downloaded legally sourced the first 8 eps, and I'm blown away, specially with the case in the psychiatric institution. Britton really is living a schizoid life, I'm beginning to wonder how long he can keep it up.
What I also like, but probably is a sign of trouble to come, is that the story moves rather quickly, no filler episodes at all. At this pace, I'm getting a John Doe vibe from this, i.e. we'lll get a cliffhanger season finale with a big revelation for the show to ultimately not get renewed.

/but once Breaking Bad returns, the rest of the networks can suck it

Or maybe a cable channel. On any other network, Whitney would have been axed after the first few episodes. The same is true of "Community", but let's not pretend that "Whitney" is some mass-culture, break-out hit. It's a crappy show on a network that couldn't field a successful show if they shoved their hand up Lucille Ball's ass and used her as a puppet.

Ratings do not necessarily make a work good or information true. Fox News can brag about ratings, but only lunatics take them seriously.

While I agree that Trocadero may have been engaging in a little exaggeration, I fear that you may be demonstrating an artistic corollary of the first premise of Idiot America:

(1) Any theory is valid if it sells books, soaks up ratings or otherwise moves units.

While Whitney isn't the funniest thing ever it is far from the holocaust level crime against humanity that all of you make it out to be. I don't watch the show, but I have seen a handful of episodes and it is a watchable shut your brain off kind of show.

What I love about Chevy on the show is that the bitter, bigoted asshole of a character he plays is heavily based on himself. Chevy's playing himself and he has no idea that the writer's are taking the piss with him. I find that hilarious.

I tried to watch that show. I gave it two episodes, and about half of a third, but there were just too many huge, obvious holes in the concept and each plot - holes that went willfully ignored - that I just couldn't take it. The primary one being that the main character literally never sleeps. He'd be exhausted, which could prove to be a compelling plot point in itself. But it's never even mentioned. Maybe they "got around to it" later in the season. But with obvious stuff like that being ignored, I felt like my intelligence was being insulted, and it made the show hard to take seriously.

I've never seen Whitney, but my girlfriend & I found her stand-up special on Netflix awhile back. Neither of us had heard of her, but we gave it a shot. It was godawful.

She tells a "men are dumb" joke that is older than dirt. Joke bombs. She repeats the punchile, louder. Barely a response. Repeats punchline, with "AM I RIGHT, LADIES?" Few chuckles. Repeats punchline, "ADMIT IT, GUYS!"

Repeat until we turned it off.

Apparently she doesn't give as good head to the head of NBC as she does to the head of E!
