the whole series is, in my opinion, not about starks or lannisters at all. not greyjoys or boltons or tyrells...

its about targaryn restoration, and the defeat of the horrors north of the wall. all the stuff we've seen up till now is just moving the pieces around on the board to facilitate this main theme. Hell the series is called a song of ice and fire... Rhllor against the Others baby.

The destruction of houses lannister and stark are incidental (although, for those whove read thru the final book published at this point, lannister seems to be in more trouble at this point than stark, which is kinda amazing considering how badly theyre f'd in many ways).

Dany needs to complete her journey of "leadership adolescence" f'ing around in Meereen getting her dragons big and learning to rule. Then one of the houses of westeros, either dorne or greyjoy will give her ships to facilitate her return. she will unite/sweep her enemies before her, reclaim the throne, and then do some nice dragon striking the terror of the north. this is my theory.

the question for me, is, which of the houses will faciliate this, and stand with her, and which will not and oppose her, and be destroyed.

At this point, i think the starks will survive in some form. I think the lannisters are doomed. I think the Ironborn are screwed, too, theyve made so many mistakes on Victarions big big gambles, which i dont think'll pay off.

the only house i really want to see destroyed tho are the Boltons. They are some sick assholes. The lannisters, as machiavellian and power hungry as they are, are at least semi sane, even cersei is ver very foolish. Theyre not inherently evil, and the boltons seem to be.

This is my theory as well.

But my concern is that GRRM decided to spend entirely too much time wanking about with the setup, and the meat of the story is either going to look like an afterthought, or he's going to die before he gets it finished and some other writer will slap a half-assed ending on it.
