They should charge $5 a month for preferred status - that gets you free beer at FARK parties....

2012-05-11 12:52:12 PM
I have no problem with this, as long as it is expensive. That way, it'll only be used sparingly and with great justice. You know, just like the Fark newsflash tag.

2012-05-11 12:54:38 PM
Glad I bailed when I did.

too late.

I use FB, quite a lot actually. It helps that my company is in the social space though.

Great! This will make it easy to figure out who to un-friend.

2012-05-11 01:24:32 PM
Only if you actually bother to use Facebook.

Mitt Romney's about to become the most popular guy on Facebook.

If you have people on Facebook that annoy you, defriend or block them. It's that easy.

Looking forward to that class reunion.

I hate to be one of "those guys" but I am pretty over facebook.

Facebook is the new myspace, which was the new geocities. Someone could make a fortune making the next one.

2012-05-11 01:29:08 PM
It can't be any worse than the other crap they do to screw up post sequencing.

what is this, like the 11th facebook thread in two days??

for a group that claims to never use it, sure is a lot of interest in it.

2012-05-11 01:32:37 PM
Well, I think this is it.

I'm just making a new photobucket for family photos, and sending out notifications to my mother and father and friends when I post new stuff.

Or maybe I'll actually use my Google+

2012-05-11 01:32:43 PM
Just send me five bucks a week and I'll read your posts. I promise!

2012-05-11 01:33:10 PM
Gosh all these annoying free programs I use are insufferable!

2012-05-11 01:33:16 PM
If you immediately like and comment on your own status it will also bump it up in the news-feed but I'm not enough of a douche to actually put that into practice

2012-05-11 01:33:22 PM
As soon as they introduced the "top stories" layout, I knew that was coming.

But this won't be something where you or I will pay to highlight our stories. This is something where, say, Panera or Starbucks will pay to move their postings to the top for better positioning. Hell, give them a few months and pay-per-click stories will probably make their way to the system.

I know over the last couple days I've noticed a friendly little "trending stories" block as my top story, both on my desktop and on the Android app. I'd prefer a way to make the whole thing go away - I'm not subscribed to Yahoo, WSJ or anything that would push articles right to Facebook - but it's not that hard to mark "don't show stories from X."

Gotta monetize the system as part of a corporate growth strategy, after all.

That, and the entertainment value of watching people waste money on this will be priceless.

2012-05-11 01:33:55 PM
Fortunately, it is easy to put someone on "ignore". It's bad enough some people have to post every bowel movement on FB and twitter, but to put it in boldface is too much.

So now when I need a rusty nail or a wooden board on Farmville I can make that request STAND OUT even more!?? Wooooo Hoooooo worth every penny!!

I farking hate the Orwellian nightmare facedblog has become. I haven't added any friends in a while and when I tried to the other day they FORCED me to put the friend in a category so they would know my relationship with that person. WTF. So I made a new bullshiat category to put all the new friends in.

If women didn't love this shiat it would have died already.

2012-05-11 01:39:58 PM
Any of my friends try that shiat on me and they're not going to be on my friends list very long.

2012-05-11 01:40:44 PM
but Tumblr users are no where near as obnoxious as Facebook users. God help us all.

tumblr is up in the same tier of terrible with facebook, twitter, reddit, and 9gag.

WTF are you talking about? Facebook doesn't do that. Are you thinking of Google+? If so, congrats on being one of 15 people on Google+.

2012-05-11 01:44:35 PM
Google+ has a similar service -- $1.50 per post. I've made six bucks this week.

Funny, the last time a bunch of people started saying Facebook was going to charge somewhere. I started paying out the ass per month.

Oh wait, that's just because I eat mexican occasionally. My money stays where it is.

The sad thing is, a lot of people will actually pay Facebook to be even more of an attention whore.

Who uses the news feed though? I just change it to recent posts and read it all in the order they were posted. The news feed sucks.

Only assuming that the feature actually lets you know they paid for it as opposed to more of their posts just showing up in your news feed.

I thought they tended to be on Myspace?

2012-05-11 02:02:39 PM
this is the beginning of the end for facebook.

my new theory is that instead of being replaced by another large mega-social network, like the case from myspace to facebook, facebook will be replaced by a multitude of niche social networks. so, no, there will be no true single facebook replacement. but it will be replaced.

just like how bud light and miller lite get replaced by a couple dozen much superior microbrews as you get older and have a more refined palette.

2012-05-11 02:03:40 PM
Ugh. If it wasn't the only way for me to get a hold of certain people I'd squash my account.

I've got all my settings set to make it as secure and non annoying as possible and purged a bunch of people I didn't really know a few months back. I'm STILL getting a sh*t ton of spammy notices and event invites from people I've never heard of.

It's pissing me off.
