They're trying to replicate helmets from 1937. The racist logo will still be there for fans of genocide most of the year, don't worry.

Just couldn't see it in the pics. It looks cool, but sometimes the obvious exclusion of something comes across louder (Orwellian?) than if it were left there.

Yeah, and some will use that to cry racism and feed their ego when the name was chosen to show valor.
Or do you think they originally chose that name because they wanted their team held in contempt?
Personally, I think those Boston Celtics are horrendous for hating white people the way they do.

Also, the Redskins will be having a "Native American Heritage Celebration" during one of their home games. It involves giving all people of NA heritage free blankets and moving them to another stadium.

FIFY.

As a person with fairly deep Irish roots, I've yet to come across a situation where genocide was committed against my ancestors.

As to the "to show valor" BS:

"Sorry for taking your land, killing off your people, and all that... come to think of it... you guys were pretty bad-ass after all!"

Really? Your ancestors lived a stone's throw from England and you think they never were on the receiving end of a wholesale massacre now and then?

Olivar Cromwell did a fair bit of killing and relocating the Irish.

I'm a Cowboys fan and hate almost everything about the Redskins, but I like these uniforms. The helmets are a nice touch. This is how you do it. Take notice Stillers with your throwbacks of fail. At least Big Ben will finally be wearing stripes.

Yes. They were the last NFL team to allow black people on their team. For some history google The Dallas Cowboys Chicken Club. The Cowboys Chicken Club was created to mock the Redskins racist ways, and played a big part in making the rivalry what it is. Arrests were made along with hilarity.

I suppose Irish people may get a pretty dark red on a Caribbean tobacco plantation.

Plus, there's the land grabs, the systemic cultural repression, and the occasional rebellion crushing.

Yeah, the Irish have had it PRET-TY easy. Good thing, too, because we are morally obligated to never make a sports team mascot out of any group that has suffered repression.

I usually don't believe in bad guys vs. good guys in sports, except when it comes to the Redskins and Cowboys. The Redskins were clearly the bad guys when that rivalry formed.

I forget who the first black Redskin player was maybe Bobby Mitchell? But I remember watching an interview with him and he was talking about a big dinner with the whole team and during the dinner they started to sing Dixie. The player just kinda sat there not knowing what to do and the coach screamed at him to sing. But he didnt even know the words so he just started moving his mouth. Thats what I remember I saw the interview in the 90s.

"Play in" being the key part of your statement. Doug Williams is NOT the correct answer for a bar bet question.

Q: Who was the first black quarterback to win a super bowl ring?
A: Joe Gilliam. Back up to Terry Bradshaw for the '74 Steelers but did not get a snap in the SB.

Which is why it would be pretty asinine for a British soccer team, for instance, to call themselves the "Fightin' Irish".

But an American football team does not suffer the same stigma.

Now, if we did have a systemic genocide of Irish people, who were friggin' here first, in America... then, yeah, "Fightin' Irish of Notre Dame" would be inappropriate.

Context. Learn it.

It was hilarious when Steve Spurrier's first year as Washington's coach just happened to coincide with their throwback helmets featuring a spear/arrowhead image.

Danny Wuerffel wearing one was just a bonus.
